The bread and olive service was provided however isn't complimentary (as a note). The steak came out in a weird gravy sauce that has a Sunnyside egg on top. The octopus was very tender and fresh. That was my favorite bite. THE FINAL BAMBOO: It was around 36 euros for the two dishes, which isn't a bad deal! I'd definitely try some other dishes next time around.

This restaurant is located in the Four Seasons hotel and upon entering, they let you take your time sitting and explaining things. They have a vegetarian menu too if others in your group want that option. It is such a nice gesture because they get their food the same time as the regular menu. And then the third option is a smaller menu however everyone has to order the same course amount in your group. The food was incredible! The flavors and how each course kept getting better and better. Like you will be so happy the entire time. The service was impressive. They served everything at the same time. From putting your silverware in your table at the same time to each course with the presentation. Just wow. They even offered cold water which you should not expect when in Europe so that was such a nice and unexpected surprise. Everyone in my group got that but I got room temp water. They remembered that to keep giving me that during the entire night. Eating in Portugal means sitting at the table a long time to take your time eating and having conversation. I would say Cura definitely allowed that, maybe a little bit too long because this was the longest dinner I experienced in Portugal. It was over 5 hours long. As we were leaving the (so called) manager asked why we changed our minds. I asked him how long did he think we should wait to get served? He could have not cared less. It's a lovely space with light wood, plenty of space between the tables and, as with everything in this hotel, a chic informal styling. Our friendly waiter was very helpful, and had an excellent command of the English language, recommended the organic set menu which looked interesting and pretty good value for 25 euros but we passed on it because there was only one choice for each course. Good concept guys but I think you at least need to offer a couple of choices so you can keep both the meat and fish eaters happy. Anyway for us it was smiles all round straight away when, much to our surprise, the waiter announced that hotel guests who make a reservation and eat in the restaurant get a free bottle of wine. We said we would like a white to kick things off and we were presented with a lovely bottle of Altano Branco 2009 from the Douro region. Pretty powerful, full of flavour with a long finish;this was a good wine to get as a freebie. A nice selection of artisan bread was then produced which came with butter, balsamic vinegar and a very tasty olive oil. Presentation was lovely and everything was looking very pleasing to the eye on the table. To start with we shared a portion of nicely flavoured green lentils with pumpkin which came in a skilfully made Parmesan basket which was very tasty and so much better than other versions of this dish I have had in the past. Our "mature" travelling companions, who can be quite demanding on occasion had the same dish and were also well pleased with their choice. Unless you have very big appetite I would say that the starters here are plenty for two to share and leave you with plenty of room for the main course. By now we were ready for some more wine and after a chat with the knowledgable waiter, and a taste of a couple of wines they had available by the glass, we selected two great bottles. First up was a wonderful Anselmo Mendes Alvarinho 2008 which was a very "big" example of this type of wine, not cheap by any means but a real pleasure to drink and one that lingered very pleasantly in the mouth. Finally we had the Casa De Mouraz Tinto 2007, an organic wine which was full bodied, fruity and had a good long finish. While enjoying these excellent wines we moved onto our mains. I had the "triggerfish" which had been roasted and came with cherry tomatoes and olives with a sweet garlic creamy sauce served in a separate small jug. This firm white meaty fish had been well prepared and made for a very tasty supper. B had the medallions of veal with a red onion relish which she requested medium rare and that is exactly how it was cooked. It was presented on the plate sliced with a delicate char and pinky red flesh; a real melt in the mouth piece of meat which came with a jus reduction in a small jug. Our side orders of roasted baby potatoes came with some lovely tiny sauted mushrooms which added a nice dimension to the dish. The courgette with was also very good and had been cooked perfectly. John, not being a lover of the potato, had the rice with dates which was a very successful marriage of flavours and produced a delicate fragrent dish. By this point we were all pretty much stuffed; we had seen the restaurant go from empty to full and it was looking like we were yet again going to be the last punters to leave but the cheese was calling. We had a single portion of the three local cheeses with a fruit, tasted like quince, compote to finish and it was a fine end to a great evening "hanging" in the hotel. We tumbled out of the restaurant as they were turning out the lights, said a fond farewell to our travelling companions and waved to Bruno in the bar, and made our way up to our room happy with the way this mini break was shaping up.

So our fabulous food tour guide really hit it out of the park for me with the later stops, and this…read moresmall patisserie place, which was the 4th stop on the tour, was another winner for me! So firstly - the specialty here is not a Pasteis de Nata, but instead its a dessert called Pastel Feijão (hence the titular name of this place), which is more popular in the North of Portugal. The pastry filling here is not egg, but instead a mix of white beans (which are displayed in a jar on the table outside, so mystery solved ;-) and almonds. So if you have vegan/ vegetarian friends visiting Lisbon who cant eat the Pasteis de Nata, well then this place absolutely comes to the rescue! Biting into this is like tasting a heavenly pillow of deliciousness. The bean taste disappears and what you are left with is a lovely almond-y smooth taste (and it does not taste anything like almond-butter, but more earthy and fresh). The closest comparison probably is the creme brulee- like soft and milky texture. The Pastry Chef has won tons of rewards and his Pastel Feijão definitely was a winner for me.
