Went there for 15 years, every year we pre-ordered for Christmas Eve. This year they seemed to be more greedy because they way over booked their reservations. I waited well over an hour past my reservation time that I called in three days before. I get it that they're busy but they've been in business a long time and I've never had to wait like that especially on Christmas Eve. I'm still so mad that I'm ordering elsewhere today. It was good food but they burned their bridge with me and I'm guessing a few customers that night. Never again. read more

We've eaten here for years. First the food we got was good, kicks most American Chinese, but certainly we were uncomfortable and noticed a difference yesterday... Wondering if the owners have changed? We ordered lunch special, you choose 2 items,comes w rice, which has always been both tasty and good. There were a couple tables ordering the lunch special but this day they got both our table, and the next table's, items wrong... there are only a few items to choose from so just doesn't seem that difficult??.. A crabby woman running food from the kitchen excuse was to say the server wrote down the wrong items and the server, somewhat jovial and nonchalant, thought we were 'buddies' laughing and patting us on the shoulder over lunch. We ended up keeping what they served and it was ok ... but I don't like broccoli so if I had wanted beef and broccoli I would have ordered it. I wanted chicken and mushrooms. Interestingly our serving was just over half the next tables lunch special and both tables did not get what we ordered. To the waiter, we are not buddies... pls don't touch me, I don't know you. And to lady from the kitchen, your problems are not mine so keep it to yourself, apologize ask if you can fix the error and move on ( no offer to fix our order btw) and pull your hair into a ponytail or something because you left your long straight, black hairs on my table. At least it didn't find any in my food. Again food was overall good but the experience was most offputting. We have been coming here for a long time and have not been served by these 2 in the past so I just hope it's a passing thing and not the new norm. Shame really ... read more

I never post reviews of less than stellar performance, BUT my first and LAST order with HKGarden was on Christmas Eve. Not sure how to score LESS than ONE STAR? Ordered online at 10:00 am for a 6:15pm pickup. Had to leave MY e-mail and Cell #...... assuming for updates if anything went wrong. When I arrived at 6:15pm, there were about 6 other groups sitting in the restaurant waiting area, ALL being told that their orders would be at about an hour "late". My ~$250 order was for my extended family, including two 90+ year olds.... and I had a 20 minute drive further south. NO IDEA why the audacity of this restaurant and employees could NOT have simply updated all the customers at some point during the day that they were TOO GREEDY to stop taking orders when they had more than they could handle. I left to drop family off at my brothers' house, then waited 45 minutes, before phoning, and being told that my order was still about 45 minutes away for pickup. I waited that amount of time, plus a grace 15 mins before arriving at the restaurant. Told "politely" that it was still another 10 mins. When asked to pay, there was NO HINT of an APOLOGY, seemingly no remorse that they could justify pissing me, and I assume another bunch of people, off...... This was terrible service; terrible ordering process; no means to e-mail my dissatisfaction directly. Food tasted decent. I hope so, for $250+ The wasted 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back again, and my grandparents waiting 2 hours late to eat, was never considered. VERY Disappointed. will NEVER recommend, nor order here again...... Merry Christmas. read more

Wow! Wowwowow! Talk about awesome! My mom and I had a hankering for Chinese food tonight, and decided to give this place a try. Initially were quoted a 45 minute wait for deliver to Walden, and the driver showed up with our piping hot order in under 20 minutes! The food was absolutely delicious, flavorful, and lots of it for the price we paid (and they're wallet friendly!)! We will 100% order from here again. Fantastic job! This place has been hit and miss. Tonight was good, ingredients seemed fresh and the deep fryer seemed to have new oil but in past visits we've run into bad tofu and even beef. I'd go back for a quick dish of something they serve often and in large quantities but stay away from the specialty items on the menu as the ingredients won't be fresh. The service was pretty good tonight. This is western Chinese food so expect plates, knives, and forks despite the Chinese print on the menu. The bathrooms were also acceptable. read more

Very good food especially their Chicken with Cream Corn Soup. Delivery is very fast and food is always hot when it arrives. The restaurant is also very pleasant to eat in and there's lots of parking. Definitely worth the effort and money to eat there. read more

Team Fam came here for lunch and we ordered the Ginger Beef, Pork Chow Mein, and some rice for good measure. The ginger beef as noted by other reviewers had a good taste to it. The ginger added a nice zing to the crunchy beef. Was it full of MSG? Who knows, but it was kind of like adding a lot of sauce (in this case, sweet ginger) to dry meat, and that's what you have here with the Ginger Beef. What started out promising ends up a dry mess. The Pork Chow Mein did not fare any better. Sure there was a good amount of pork on top, but it was the same story of having a flavoured exterior with a dry interior. I don't want to say it's on the food court level because this definitely took some time to cook and come out fresh, but I wish it was more moist on the inside. read more

We've always enjoyed our food here. Always hot and fresh. Their chicken in black bean sauce is great, so is their ginger beef and diced chicken & cashews in yellow bean sauce (though you better like celery for that dish). The lemon chicken is the only slight disappointment but it's by far not the worse I've ever had! The family the owns it seem very nice and by far this is the only Chinese type food (outside of china town area) that we've found worth eating (and not feeling sick after). read more

We went at lunch hour when there was only one other table in the restaurant. We were given the lunch special menu which we ordered off of. The food came out very quickly and the quantity of the lunch special was large. However, as more customers filed in, we noticed that they were given the lunch special menu as well as the full menu. When confronted about this, the waitress told us that we were welcome to order from the full menu, just need to let her know. No explanation why we were not given the full menu or apologies. We already ate our food and didn't want to order anything more. I am very disappointed at the different treatment that we received than the other customers, hence the 2 stars. We went on Boxing Day, they were busy and the owner seemed stressed out and was a bit rude. When the bill came, he had added the tip automatically because he said we had a large group, we had 6 people in our group. However he added the tip again when I paid with my credit card. I was with family so wasn't paying attention but noticed once I got home that he charged me the tip twice. So make sure you check your bill before paying. read more

The food is fine but twice now, several months apart, when we've ordered delivery they've "forgotten" a dish. When we called about it the first time, they offered us a credit which we took because it was going to take too long for them to be delivered. Said credit has never been applied to any subsequent order so clearly they don't actually make a record of it anywhere. The second time, last night, they forgot a dish from our order and we refused the so-called credit and demanded they deliver the dish for free. Too bad, because lousy service can ruin a good thing. Do not order delivery from this place, we have ordered a few times but tonight was the last time, for the last 3 times one or more dishes have not been in the delivery order after being charged for it . The delivery driver is in such a hurry it appears like he knows what is going on. You call to complain and they offer a 'credit' for next time, well next time they have no record of a credit so don't accept one, while food is okay and we enjoy it, the service and delivery is very shady, i will certainly looking elsewhere as 3 strikes you are out! read more

I came to this restaurant for the first time on my birthday with my friend and have been here 5 times ever since. The menu is in English which helps a basically illiterate Chinese girl like me. Staff only speaks English and canto but no mandarin, which is fine. Friendly staff, fast service, and cheap prices. I ordered two dishes with steamed rice and it only ran $40 including tip. Beef tenderloin hot plate( available spicy nor non spicy) and Szechuan eggplant are my favourites and are all I order. For kids there's fried rice, all my little brother eats. many drink options available and they don't automatically serve you tea as in most Chinese restaurants. The restaurant isn't very busy, lots of seating, and they always tell people yo sit wherever they like, as if the restaurant is like coming home for good homemade meals.And recently I got a calendar as a Christmas gift and fortune cookies as always! read more

By far the best Chinese food in Calgary. We got the dinner for 3 and Shanghai noodles. The food came out quickly and in a good order; First to come out was the wonton soup which was amazing, perfect base and the wontons were great. Then the spring roles. Next was fried rice which again was so good! Had the perfect flavour. We then received our shanghai noodles Which is one of our favourite dishes and they had a perfect amount of sauce and were cooked very well! We got our mixed veggies which I usually think are too salty but here they had just the right amount of sauce, which was nice and I really liked that they still had a little bit of a crunch to them. Lastly we received our ginger beef which was perfectly cooked, which was nice and crisp with the perfect center of well cooked beef and extra saucy which I loved. The food was honestly to die for and just so worth it! Our bill came out to be about 60$ with a couple of drinks. And the portions were HUGE. The service here was amazing, everyone there was so friendly and welcoming. They were always paying attention and my glass was always topped up.
