However, I am rating my "experienceʻ which includes him, his staff, and the customer service I received. He did a thorough exam and asked me a LOT of questions about my condition. He ordered appropriate imaging. His office staff are pleasant, but not efficient. The phones go to VM from about noon on and you cannot leave a message - you have to keep calling and calling. He has a patient portal, but one of his staff said they donʻt look at it. There wasnʻt anything definitive shown on the imaging and Dr. S didnʻt offer much advice except donʻt bend backward and donʻt pick up anything heavy; I already knew this. I had to request physical therapy - he seemed reluctant and said most patients donʻt do the PT at home. Well, I always do. So, he told the staff to send a prescription for PT to my PT clinic. Later, the PT staff requested an additional Rx from Dr. S so they could help me with balance issues. After 3 faxed requests from the PT clinic, and numerous phone calls from me, we both gave up after 2 weeks and I asked my PCP for the additional Rx...which she did that day. At one point during the 3 attempts to get that additional Rx, the staff told me the PT request was "on his desk." That was 8 days after the PT clinic had sent it, and the second request. I had a post-PT appt. with Dr. S. I mentioned the difficulty in contacting his office and the problem with the PT prescription. His answer was that he is short-staffed. Maybe he should spend some time rectifying that - his business would be so much better. A competent, caring doctor stuck in an incompetent, non-caring environment. Usually itʻs the other way around.

Dr. Shimamoto has very good bedside manner and is as local as doctors can get. Very soft spoken and listens to your every concern. If you have issues he'll explain to you what may be causing the issue in layman's terms. Location is a bit clunky and the parking is a bit hefty ($1.50 every 30 minutes with validation) but he's worth visiting. He's part of a group called Neurology Associates but my PCP recommended him in particular. Now I see why. Just a heads up - they charge 5% extra for credit card payment, so if you're on a flex plan and you want to use your flex plan card you will have to wait to be billed, but that's just a minor inconvenience. If you're looking for someone who will treat you with care and attention, go to this doctor for your neurology needs.

I routinely get Botox and Vyepti every 3 months and every single time it's a nightmare scheduling with them. I am so sick and all I'm asking is at minimum, they be competent at their job but their staff is one of the worst I ever encountered and I have seen a lot of doctors. Dr. Kim herself is knowledgeable and kind but I can't say enough bad things about their lack of organization, communication, and bad staff.

My…read morehopes in sharing my experience is that it will lessen the fears of anyone newly diagnosed with a brain tumor. You can survive and recover, it isn't an automatic death sentence. So please stay strong! You will get through it. Dr. Leon Liem is the best. I was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor after a fall while practicing softball with my daughters at age 33. A quick trip to the ER revealed no concussion but the Doctor asked if I knew about the brain tumor?? WHAT? Turns out I have a genetic meningioma, He informed me that it was inoperable and would really start giving me problems in my forties. He was right, the headaches and brain swelling gradually worsened to the point that I would end up on bed rest to prevent seizures/death while awaiting gamma knife surgery at 43 years old. I met with Dr. Liem after asking my oncologist to refer me to the best neurosurgeon in Honolulu. Dr. Liem is brilliant, confident and always professional. The surgery was done on 07/10/14. Although, I had an adverse reaction that required further treatment and hospitalization, I am happy to report that we have been able to control the growth of the tumor. Furthermore, I have made a complete recovery from the procedure and stabilized the tumor. The cost of the procedure was a total of $2686.21 and was covered by my medicare. Thanks to the amazing advances in modern medicine and Dr. Liem. I beat Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer and an Inoperable Brain Tumor. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Liem and his team. I absolutely love Dr Keith Abe!!…read more Our baby was born with port wine stain birthmark so we had to make an appointment with a Neurologist and our babys PCP highly recommended Dr Abe, and I can see why!! Location: Dr Keith Abe's office is located in Hale Pawa'a. Fairly new medical building on the corner of Beretania and Keeaumoku St. To enter this building you want to be in the far left hand lane coming down Beretania, and its going to be right before the left turn to go on to Keeaumoku St. Parking: Is a bit of a tight garage, so don't bring your super lifted vehicles. We kept our ticket with us and they validated our parking in the office. I believe we were here maybe an hour or more and didn't pay more than $2 with our validation. Definitely cheap for downtown!! Office: Is beautiful, lovely view of our concrete jungle Honolulu. Seating is wonderful open airy, not stuffy and on top of each other like some offices. It is definitely a large office. Wonderful area for the kids to watch shows, or play with toys. Beautiful book selection as well. Front Desk: The office staff are absolutely sensational!! They all, each and every one there, you can tell love their job!! It shows in their happy faces, how wonderful they handle all patients, families, etc. I wanted to fill out the new patient paperwork prior to my visit so I called the day before and they happily emailed it to me. Which is essential when bringing in children to the doctors office!! Its hard holding a baby and a pen at the same time Some offices wont send you the paperwork prior, which is why I love the staff here. They are warm, inviting like a family!! Dr Abe: is amazing!! You can see he has a true passion for what he does. It shines through, his persona was amazing. Our baby (like most) is really clingy and doesn't take to new people, let alone doctors too nicely. But she was happy as pie the entire visit. Dr was very patient, which is not what I typically expect of specialists. But he was informative, discussed some plans of actions, but ultimately left the ball in our court! Definitely not used to that in a doctor office which was extremely refreshing and made me a truly happy mommy. His true aloha spirit is present, and I would highly recommend him for anyone who needs to see him!! A++++++++

OK, I'm used to the V.A., where most there hate their jobs, you wait many MONTHS to be seen, and…read moreget pretty poor treatment from pretty poor docs, with the exception of eyes and dental. I was MISdiagnosed there 2 YEARS when I had lymphoma UNDER shrapnel from an Iraq War wound. I was told, "You are getting OLD, and it's an old war wound..." DISSED for 2 YEARS??%$#@! finally, I went outside w/Medicare, got a proper diagnosis, (CANCER in that bone under the 'old war wound'), and referred for treatment-- finally the V.A. got involved because I threatened to go to the press if they didn't take over. The docs at St. Francis radiation center were GREAT. But nothing worked as it's a rare cancer and it didn't respond to radiation, and kept coming back. Finally, with MY research (I'm a retired surgeon) I found a treatment that may work for me and they referred me on after my oncologist AGREED. MAHALO PRES. TRUMP for 'Care in The Community', as we can now go to outside docs if we live far away--and they took me seriously, I got treatment the V.A. doesn't have anyway--and they listened to me, treating me with respect as a fellow doc. PALI MOMI WAS THE LATEST DOC TO SEE FOR BONE SURGERY--a big surgery, a VERY long 18 month recovery=MAJOR. I saw Dr. Aratani, who is highly specialized in ortho and oncology--one of only 2 on island. The only other is my friend @ Tripler but he was deployed so unavailable and he got me in to see Dr. Aratani. She was enthusiastic about my research, said YES--and referred me on to Queens for one treatment before she operates...but PALI MOMI WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. I was pretty lost there as I never go to Aiea, living in Kahalu'u, and it's grown so much all my old landmarks are GONE--but after finally finding it, employees directed me every step of the way as to where to go, what building/floor/etc. OMG! That NEVER happens @ the V.A. I was totally--no lie--slack jawed by the time I got to her office! EVERYONE was so FRIENDLY--and not put on--I mean genuinely friendly, helpful...as my leg HURTS and walking HURTS...so so many folks there offered to help..I am BLOWN AWAY. It is BY FAR, the BEST medical facility I have EVER been in--and after getting wounded, I've had 15 surgeries, multiple scars/shrapnel/debility...etc. I just am very impressed=PERIOD. Much aloha to all you guys!!! Your assist and help was SO appreciated! I've been really down about all this, the time I lost getting treated and where it's at now--needing major surgery, possibly crippled for life...yadayada. But you guys there really cheered me up. MAHALO!!! Sorry so long, but I just feel VERY strongly here!

He texted me needing a lift from Pali Momi Medical Center (PMMC) to his home just off Kinau Street. PMMC opened its doors in July 1989 and has been servicing Central and West Oahu. It was originally opened as Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi until rebranded as PMMC in 2010. They are conveniently located in Aiea just down the road from Pearlridge Shopping Center. It was my first time here and was impressed with the upkeep of the grounds. Because my friend just had a procedure to the day prior, a hospital staff wheeled him via wheelchair to the pickup/drop off area. I was amazed by the hospital's attention to patient's condition, consideration and service extended. Although the pickup was a fairly quick process, the setback I encountered was leaving. There were 2 parked cars in front of me and it didn't seem the cars would be leaving soon. Furthermore, the right hand lane was too narrow where I couldn't pass them. My only option was to back up and exit via the far left lane. Thank goodness there was no car behind me otherwise I would have been in a standstill. Overall, impressed with my first visit to PMMC, with the exception of their pickup and drop off area. 2026 #60

The receptionist who received my call seemed a bit unaware of my scan results. After several minutes, she said that I need to make a telecon with Dr. Pearce. I was told that the Dr. Pearce would call between the hours of 9:30-12:30. 1 week prior the the appointment, I received 2 messages reminding me of the appointment date and that it was for 8:20 am. At 9:00 am on the appointment day, I called his office and was told by the receptionist that the Dr. would call between 9:30-12:30. When I mentioned my received messages regarding the 8:20 start time, the receptionist told me that I was told about the 3 hour window that the Dr. would call. She was not apologetic about the messages and asked if I wanted to reschedule. I had my entire family there to hear what the results so I was not about to reschedule. Her unprofessional attitude being a doctors receptionist/nurse was very puzzling and upsetting. I waited and finally got a call from the Dr. at 11:30. Upon receiving the results, I mentioned the messages that I received regarding the 8:20 appointment. He seemed very unapologetic and just told me that he would talk to his staff. He asked if I had any other concerns and when I said no, he just hung up without saying goodbye. This is totally unprofessional as a doctor providing care for patients. I would not recommend anyone from seeing a doctor with his attitude along with his staff.
