People have been telling me that Hononegah is at the top of some list for best...I dunno, best school in IL or something like that. I graduated in 2005 and no, it fxcking isn't. Don't get me wrong, I miss high school...but when you get a little older, that's normal. It doesn't matter if its the best school or the worst. Hononegah is somewhere in between, but closer to the latter. Its a good facility and all, but the younger teachers are sort of uninvolved, run-of-the-mill douchebags. I mean, go to a bar and there's a decent chance you'll see your old chemistry teacher spilling a beer on some freshly 21-year-old girl, trying to take her back to the condo. Rockton-Roscoe is a pretty OK place to raise kids because the cops are insidious asshxles, fresh out of the academy, so they keep shxt locked down. Besides Walmart, Hononegah is the best thing Rockton has going for it, and that ain't sayin' much. read more

Discipline system is absolutely screwed up since the demerit system was taken out. You get the maximum punishment for the littlest things. I got an In School Suspension for saying someone's penis was probably small (not even to their face) and I got a detention for having a lighter? That makes absolutely no sense to me. read more

At Hononegah, teachers go to great lengths to make sure their students succeed. If your student's falling behind, s/he will be given a hard time. The English and math departments put together a "tutorial" program, where if a student is failing either one of those subjects or needs to get a major assignment turned in, they will be sent to the tutorial room for half their lunch period. Class selection is very diverse, ranging from parenting, living on your own, to advanced programming classes, and even making clothes. The school also allows for an abundant amount of electives which cater greatly to just about any interests or hobbies - whether one wants to become an engineer, work on cars, become a fashion designer, a journalist, the opportunities are endless. If your student is special needs, the teachers will work with you and your student, whether it's to ease the transition to middle school to high school, to prepare for a career, to get homework turned in, and much more. The special needs teachers and aides are said to be the best in the area. Despite what students say, the cafeteria food is actually pretty good, although a bit pricy at $2.65 per meal (including a 1% fat, a skim, and chocolate milk carton or bottle). Reduced lunch is the same price of a carton of milk, and the school will work with you very well. The vending machines also provide for snacks and beverages, ranging from muffins to chips to fruit juice and Gatorade. A few times a week, students have the opportunity of getting a pizza through Papa John's for $8. Students can either go to the cafés or the deli. At the deli section, students can purchase chef salads, soups, and another salad choice that changes every day, from a pita salad to a teriyaki salad. As for the students, they are very much like what you would expect in a high school setting, except less fights break out. In the past 2 years, there has only been one significant fight, and those involved either got suspended or expelled, so the school does take any form of fighting, bullying, or harassment very seriously. Cliques do exist (athletes, nerds, "preppy" kids, and such), however. It's recommended that your student join a club, not only for something to put in a college application, but to make wonderful friends. There are gamer clubs, LGBTQ clubs, Key club, foreign language clubs, equestrian clubs, and much more. The athletics programs are just about best in the state. Hononegah recently took home State for bowling. Students left and right are signing to various universities. Pros: - Teachers push their students to succeed. - Class selection is splendid. - Several choices for school lunches. - Numerous choices for clubs. Students won't feel left out, even if they don't join a club. Cons: - Food can be quite overpriced. - The school selectively follows its snow / cold day policy. School's been called off for wind chills of 0° but not for wind chills of -45°. School's been called off for 2 inches of snow (albeit most roads haven't been plowed) but not for blizzard conditions. read more

My children have excelled here and have found that many of the teachers are very supportive. A good selection of AP classes are offered.

I give it one star. My son went here. The bullying was so bad he quit. Got his GED in 4 months. Had his diploma 5 months before his class graduated and was in college 3 months before they even got their diploma. Funny thing. NOT ONE teacher asked why he quit. They do not care. Went through 5 principals in 4 yrs. if you are not a jock there or have plenty of cash. Plan on having a hard time. Drugs are prevalent. Teachers are in fear of the bully type and aggressive students so they try to be their friend. There is a gay alliance club here for any students who are gay. As far as grades. Everyone will pass here unless you quit. I have a lot more to say but it would take days to write. Just spent 2000.00 dollars on my sons teeth that a student there wrecked for him. No apology. No nothing. No financial help. This school is a zero. read more
