this is the only round barn located right on route 66…read more The barn is split into two sections, the second floor which is empty and where you can marvel at the architecture of the round ceiling, and the bottom where it serves as a museum and gift shop. When i first walked to the second floor, i was amazed and awestruck. i couldn't believe something like this existed, much less that it was located right on the historic route 66. I saw some holes which allowed sunlight in, and the i made a comment to my wife.... i wonder what happens when it rains. I guess they clean up the floor once the rain stops the next day, and you could smell the old wood. I really wish they could fix the roof and ensure this structure remains intact for years to come. As for the bottom, there are interesting trinkets and items for sale. Everything you buy here helps support the barn. Cool historic items to see inside. Apparently, this barn was rebuild roughly 40 years, since it collapsed simply due to age. While its looking a lot better, they definitely need more restoration on it for sure. There are some parking stops located right across the route 66, and more near the back of the barn. If you park right across the barn, you can walk over and take a picture of the Arcadia route 66 sign on the group.

We started in the old barn, where both employees & several volunteers were there to give us a quick run down of the family & what to expect. Then, we were led to the house & given the opportunity to explore! Each room is opulent with painted ceilings, ritzy carpets & very fancy furniture from the late 1800s. The history is amazing & was so fun to learn about. The volunteers were wonderful & knew a LOT of great facts. We LOVED our time & are hoping to return around Christmas.

The perform a passion play called the prince of peace which first ran during Easter 1926. Make sure you wear good solid shoes as there are many rocky areas. The site also has a memorial for the Oklahoma City bombing victims, a Veterans Walkway, and an 11-foot marble Christ statue. This past April they performed the 100th annual play.

On a quiet weekday morning, the Centennial Land Run Monument feels almost cinematic. All that…read morebronze motion is frozen in a moment of time along the Bricktown Canal. The whole installation commemorates the Land Run of 1889, when settlers surged into the Unassigned Lands to stake homesteads in what would become Oklahoma Territory. The scale of the installation here is enormous, with dozens of figures charging forward. Horses stretched mid-stride, wagons tilting, every dace carved with urgency. One has clearly fallen in their haste. It really does tell the tale. We had the place mostly to ourselves which made it easy to slow and take in the detail. The only interruption was a family who decided the clearly posted "no climbing" sign was more of a suggestion than a rule and that's why we can't have nice things. Grrr! But even that didn't take away from the artistry. Paul Moore spent more than twenty years bringing this to life and the result is one of the largest bronze sculpture installations in the world, honoring the settlers who raced out on April 22, 1889. The Centennial Land Run Monument in Oklahoma City is a striking tribute to one of the state's most…read morepivotal historical event, the 1889 Land Run. The Monument consists of 47 bronze statues in total. This includes 38 people, 34 horses, three wagons, a cannon, a dog, and a frightened jackrabbit. They are all bigger than life and has such great detail. I think you could stand there for hours and never see all of the details. It stands at about 100 yards or so and stretches across a small river. Well worth the visit. Best access is then the bass pro parking lot all the way to the back and under the interstate.

You can't miss it from the parking area of the Heart of Route 66 Museum. The cylinder-topped pump is an skyscraping replica of the type commonly in use when Route 66 became a national highway in 1926. The pump was originally designed to include a spiral staircase and observation deck, which had to be scrapped as too complicated for the mostly volunteer crew that built it. The City of Apache is very near and dear to my heart. I used to spend many endless summers there as a little girl visiting my grandma and grandpa.
