There were two photos that, taken together, don't seem believable as described. According to the captions, one was taken of OKC April 22, 1889, and the next on May 13, 1889 - just 3 weeks later. Not only has an entire city appeared in 3 weeks, but additional rail lines, and an outhouse added in the foreground. What really seems implausible, though, is a massive pile of dirt in the first photo has disappeared 3 weeks later, with no sign it was ever there - even the grass has grown back perfectly. In three weeks. I'd love to know how the dates were authenticated. We can learn a lot from our elders, so I really enjoyed the quotes and photos of people who had made it to be 100 years old. We entered through a door in a parking garage, but there's an escalator right up front in the BancFirst building that's probably easier to find. I'm attaching photos.

It's in downtown Oklahoma City, and it's the tallest building in the city and state. I think it's also the tallest building from Chicago to Texas. The building was decorated for the holidays! It had a giant ornament sitting on top of what I had originally thought was granite, only to find out that after dining at Vast, it's actually still water! It was so beautiful. The building is futuristic. In the middle of Devon Energy Center, it looks like their metallic pine combs hanging from the center. All the glass windows are completely open. It's absolutely stunning inside and outside the building. It was relatively easy to get to Vast inside the Devon Energy Center. There are signs pointing you in the direction of Vast. Floor 49 is the restaurant, and floor 50 is for private events. The elevators are really fast! It took only seconds to get up to the 49th floor. There was never a long wait for the elevator. The views from the 49 floor are gorgeous. You can see the entire Oklahoma City. I could only imagine what the views looked like during the evening with all of the lights in the city glowing! There are also bathrooms on floor 49 if you're eating at Vast. The only issue that my family and I had, since we're not locals to Oklahoma City, was finding parking for the Devon Energy Center. We couldn't locate the parking for the building and ended up parking in a parallel open spot, nearby, and walking over. I think if we were more familiar with the area, I'm sure we could have found it, but after 20 minutes driving around, we didn't want to be late for our reservation at Vast for brunch.

We spent about three hours exploring Mix-Tape and still felt like we could have discovered even more. Every room is filled with hidden details, secret passageways, interactive elements, music, lights, and artwork that constantly encourages you to slow down and look a little closer. The experience is whimsical, nostalgic, and surprisingly thought-provoking all at the same time. One of the things I appreciated most was learning about the mission behind Factory Obscura. The exhibit isn't just beautiful--it was created by local artists who are supported for their work. Knowing that the installation continues to evolve with contributions from more than 100 artists made me appreciate every room even more. As a travel photographer, I loved photographing the exhibit. Every corner offered a completely different color palette, texture, or composition. The special diffraction glasses they provide make the lighting even more magical, so don't skip using them while you explore. My advice? Wear comfortable shoes, plan for at least 2-3 hours, and don't rush through it. Open every drawer, look through every little window, touch everything you're allowed to touch, and if you're able, crawl through the hidden passages--you'll discover details most people walk right past. Whether you're traveling with kids, visiting as a couple, hanging out with friends, or exploring solo, Factory Obscura is one of the most creative and memorable attractions we've experienced. It's colorful, imaginative, and unlike anything else in Oklahoma City. We left inspired and would absolutely visit again the next time we're in town.

I had heard about Factory Obscura for a few years and knew that Flaming Lips and some local artists were involved. It's an immersive art experience much like Meow Wolf on a smaller scale and I have to say it was very well done. You don't need a reservation (at least not in mid January) and the staff was great about offering suggestions for places to dine or things to do after the museum. I highly recommend you pay a dollar for the 3D glasses. This is fun for both adults and kids.
