The families who keep this place running are extremely efficient and dedicated. It is mostly clean…read moreand spacious. There are more parking spots now which makes things easier. But some still drive recklessly here so monitor your children. They have two Jummahs. Check their website bisweb.org to find the prayer times. It is well secured with many cameras and Hoover police monitors it regularly. I think they have an onsite manager/secretary during daylight hours but I'm not sure. They do everything on time here, so be on time! There are many classes, family events and nightly iftaars and prayers during Ramadan. Ramadan iftaars are outside in tents, one for women and one for men. They use reusable plates, provide jugs of water and dates on the table. Once Maghreb is over you can wait in line for a humble but delicious meal of meat, rice and salad. Be patient, sometimes people get pushy and save seats which can be annoying. Just remain calm. Sometimes they have dessert. It is free and hot so there is no reason to complain. It is mostly meant to get you through prayer, so don't expect seconds or huge portions. 250-500 people show up every night for 30 nights. The volunteers help serve and clean they do an amazing job and work hard so don't treat them like your servants. Please remind your children to respect the masjid, attendees and other people's personal property. It is family friendly but you must also be friendly and respectful in return. The Imam here is kind and moderate. The congregation is very diverse. From what I know it is easy to plan a nikkah and have your child's akika here. They also make janazas as pleasant and efficient as possible. Be sure to communicate well and ask many questions ahead of time and don't have lofty expectations. Some of the attendees are not particularly nice (could be a cultural misunderstanding at times, over 75 nationalities represented) but there many more who are kind and try their best to treat others with compassion and understanding. The ones who treat people kindly are the ones who attend on a regular basis and have dedicated their lives to keep things running. The have a great email list serve and they keep people up to date with weekly announcements. There are equal spaces for men and women, and a space for women who want to attend with babies. They do however need to wash the carpet in the infant room and maybe do something to help with the smell in there. I like that there isn't a partition so women can hear the Khatib well. When there are speaking events here women are given equal access to speakers and educators. They are no monthly dues here, but families are encouraged to donate whenever they can. They have operations dinners from time to time but you can always donate on their website.
