Two weeks ago my boy got in trouble at school and was suspended for 10 days. My boy's involvement was circumstantial. Teachers, counselors believed him at the meeting. A child that had never been in detention or called into the principal's office! A letter arrived at home with an appointment with the school district to determine his suspension/expulsion. I quickly got on the internet and found Patrick Hoover. Mr. Hoover called my cell phone the same evening (Thursday)asked to come into his office with my boy the next day to discuss (Friday). I set an appointment at 12:30PM the next day. His assistant canceled my appointment twice. I had to take a day off from work unplanned got a 4PM. My thought was that I needed a lawyer present. My opinion of him after the hour appointment and in many instances cutting me off and saying "that's not what I am asking" I felt that he is not respectful to his clients. Mr. Hoover also talked to my boy using language not appropriate to his age, he used, "yo man", "dude", and other words and attitudes not of a $300/h lawyer. At the end of the meeting I felt I had no choice but to hire him the meeting was on Monday! Then Mr. Hoover asked me to sign an agreement to hire him for the amount of $1500. I was asked for another credit card. At this time I didn't realize that both my cards were being charged. Mr. Hoover told us on Friday that he will communicate with us over the weekend. He took both our cell phone numbers, also to write the incident and email it. We did not receive ANY calls or replies to our emails. On Monday morning we arrived at 10:30AM. Mr. Hoover didn't arrive to his office until 12 minutes to 11am for an 11AM meeting. He said that the office was across the street, luckily it was. Mr Hoover was not dressed as a lawyer should. He was wearing Khaki pants with strings hanging over the back of his shoes. With a suit jacket that has seen better days. Mr. Hoover went to the receptionist and announced we had arrived for our 11AM appointment. A lady came in to let us know that in a few minutes we will be seen. She exchanged some words with Mr. Hoover as the school district did not know we were bringing a lawyer. Mr. Hoover asked to speak to the main person leading the meeting. I could hear a bit of friction before entering the room between the main person and Mr. Hoover making me even more nervous. The main person wanted to explain how the meeting was supposed go on. Mr. Hoover interrupted saying that he needed to do an opening for his client. The main person exchanged the reason why he was not supposed to lead the meeting, that this was only a meeting, not a suspension hearing, and he should know the rules. The main person asked Mr. Hoover to KEEP QUIET for the rest of the meeting. I could not believe what was happening. I questioned why did I even bring a lawyer if he was not going to intervene while we were being questioned? We were in front of the school district deciding if my boy will return to school or be expelled while I have a lawyer that already took $1500 for the "appearance" at the meeting! During the meeting my boy had to speak, I had to speak, and the members around the table. At the very end the main person leading the meeting asked ME if I would allow Mr. Hoover say something. I agreed YES, and said I am already paying his fees let him at least make my monies worth! Mr. Hoover summarized what each person have said in the meeting. Then we were dismissed. I was told I was going to get a call with a decision. Shouldn't had been my lawyer to receive the call? Mr. Hoover crossed the street with us. He did not even say goodbye and proceeded into the parking garage. My boy and I looked at each other just surprised how he didn't even stop or shake our hands! The call came and my boy was allowed to come back to school the next day. I asked the person that called if she thought Mr. Hoover participation helped the case. She said because a meeting of this level I shouldn't had brought him, clearly he was no help. Mr. Hoover knowing the case could've said you don't need me and not take our money! The next day I checked my credit card charges. I find out that $300 for the hr consultation and $1500 for his fee! I sent Mr. Hoover an e-mail to consider his participation during this case that I was not happy that he was told to keep quiet during the meeting! I received an email reply as to we had a signed agreement and was not going to change his fees. This is a $1800 mistake hiring him that my boy will pay my cc. His 2 minute summary was not worth $1800. I will not recommend Mr. Hoover to anyone as he is easy to strike a fight with School district officials, the people making decisions in your child's future! You make your own decision if you need a school Suspension/Expulsion lawyer as I am sure there are other lawyers in the same field that will be allowed to talk when you need them most! read more

He is rude, has severe untreated adhd and is just totally disrespectful to his clients. If you call him today he won't remember who you are tomorrow. Mr. Hoover and his assistant could not have been more helpful. They worked my case and communicated with the other side, eventually having it thrown out. I got into some legal trouble in early November 2010 and needed to hire a lawyer. I am a freshman in college and had very limited money to spend. I met with close to a dozen different lawyers before I met Mr. Hoover. My original appointment with him was supposed to be at 3 p.m. on a day of my choosing but around 2 p.m. I got called into work and couldn't miss my shift. I called Mr. Hoovers secretary and they were very polite and helped me set up another appointment that fit my schedule. When I did meet him Mr. Hoover was very honest with me and told me that I did not need a lawyer but having one would definitely be in my best interest. He understood I was a college student and offered me a very flexible payment plan. After I hired him I received constant updates through either email or a different medium from either his assistants or him. The entire time Mr. Hoover and all his assistants acted very professional. Mr. Hoover is an advocate for his clients, and is one of the very few attorneys who specializes in school and juvenile law, and really knows what he is doing. He is tenacious and gets very involved in his cases. He was recently involved in a school enrollment case where Montgomery County had made a decision not to permit a child to transfer to a school in Montgomery County from a school in California, on the grounds she was not the biological child of the Montgomery County resident and could not show a sufficient hardship. He brought in the media and was able to get Montgomery County to accept the child after pressuring them to allow the child to attend school here rather than be returned to a bad situation where she was previously living. My son was in very serious trouble with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). I called Mr. Hoover to represent us during the process. Mr. Hoover met with my son and me at our home the day after I first called his office. I found Mr. Hoover to be extremely knowledgeable about the various disciplinary actions which MCPS uses in cases such as ours. He is also very familiar with the MCPS personnel, having successfully represented many youngsters in their battles with MCPS. He took our fight directly to the person in charge of the MCPS disciplinary office, Mr. Steven Neff, and made a very forceful defense on behalf of my son, following which the case was adjudicated to our liking.
