What a fun gallery!…read more It's All original art and all local artists to the greater Vancouver area. They have stuff I can actually afford on my student budget of craft dinner and mr. Noodles. Lol They do all types of events too. They have Painting parties for adults and a Zombie walk and hunted gallery on oct 19th 2013 for Halloween. The coolest thing is they Change over all the artists in the whole gallery every two weeks to keep it fresh with more of a show Atmosphere. They also help youth artists in the community. Really cool young couple that run it too. So jazzed about what they do and speak so highly of the artists in the gallery. I'll be returning all the time to see the new shows!

Daughter and I did a stop and shop at the gallery on the last day of our stay. We enjoyed checking out the various offerings, and acquiring specific information on some of the offerings displayed. I had some purchasing thoughts in mind with this visit to the gallery -- gifts were to be for daughter and myself -- not to be Christmas gifts, but more like lasting remembrances of this pre-winter, and pre-holidays stay. I had taken care of Mom's gift earlier that day. When I saw what I thought each of us would like, daughter was asked to "leave", and purchases arranged -- then I caught up with her for more walkabout, and dropped back later for pick up. Everything, including the earlier purchase, was kept under wraps and hidden from any peaks during the rest of our stay. My purchases: - for daughter: 'Crystalline Glazed Porcelain Vase' - by Holly McKeen, Studio Potter, at Greendale Pottery, Chilliwack, BC. - for me: 'Blown Glass Figurine - Polar Bear' - by Daniel Vargas, Maestro glass blower, at Arte Vargas studio/gallery, Maple Ridge, BC. We did not get into the facility itself, but from volunteers at the Gallery, and some signage posted there, were able to acquire some basic, information on what The Art Machine was all about -- a small community arts school affiliated with the Hope & District Arts Council - Community Arts Program. Apparently, their program consists of weekly art classes, provided at minimum cost, and to willing students of any level experience or ability. Classes offered, cover a wide-range of arts -- including drawing, collage, painting, pottery, crafts, and the like. We were able to see several works created by a number of students (from children to adults) attending classes there this year, via a nice exhibit of their works at the Gallery -- which was much fun to see and experience. Good on the Hope & District Arts Council for enabling such a facility, and way to go to the students attending classes there. From what we saw, heard, and read, The Art Machine appears to be a real winner for the community!!

It's about an hour and a half drive north of Seattle, into the beautiful pastoral area of the Skagit River Valley, and well worth that drive for a gallery opening or an artist talk. Smith & Vallee put a lot of emphasis on both paintings and sculpture, particularly from regional artists (and the Skagit Valley area happens to be loaded with great artists, presumably attracted to the great landscapes and light angles, and the arts-friendly communal atmosphere of Bow-Edison). A cozy, intimate gallery + talented local artists + a supportive community = really fun and well-attended gallery openings. It can get pretty packed, which might force you to rubberneck a bit in order to see some of the art, but people are generally kind and relaxed. If it's too crowded for your blood, walk around and check out some of the other neato little shops, restaurants or bars in town and then filter back after a bit. "Town," by the way, is more or less a couple of charming little blocks that look as if you're on the set of a movie.

Well, if you know me- you might know I can seriously gab about art and I chatted up the wonderful lady behind the counter and she asked to see pictures of my art and then made an offer- she was interested in buying my work wholesale...!!! I think next time I visit I am going to book myself a class in their studio- the do glass fusing there and it is something I am very interested in learning! This store excited me in so many ways- great energy, amazing artist- over a 150 artists- both local and across the country. I actually spotted an artist that I have several pieces from!
