Rented lockers are cheap enough ($25 a semester), or you can just use a day locker if you'd like. I love that I can come in, get my 20 minute run on, do weights for 20 minutes, and be back out, showered, and dressed in an hour. Delightful. The track is bizarrely shaped and a bit odd, but the treadmills have the added effect of playing a plethora of morning shows--since I started working out there, I watched Obama pick his cabinet, Blagojevich self-destruct, some of the G20, and all of the inanity that is nearly any episode of the View. (Yeah, I know--but I'm a captive audience!) The pool is nice, the locker room clean, and the place a great spot. If you time it just right, you can then head to Bevier Cafe for lunch after--WIN-WIN.

Is it wrong of me to say how much I miss you, considering that when I had you, I just used you? I was there when WIMPE closed, and you opened up, shiny, and brand new. You were the most modern thing I'd ever seen on campus. Large...airy...imposing. I planned events for my RSOs here. We needed sporty fun, and you delivered, with your large multipurpose gyms. I wanted a structured way to lose weight, and you gave me not just an entire floor of fitness equipment, and fitness classes, you let me into your incredibly fun pool, and let me swish down your slides in joy. Oh happy days.... And as if that wasn't enough love from any one gym, one of your racquetball courts converted into a squash court. I spent many sweaty early am hours here, challenging my opponents with my ability to hit a small rubber ball. A rubber ball that has left many marks on you, my love, and yet, you, always patient, endlessly forgiving, never complained. And at the end of the day, when I'd worked up myself into exhaustion and warm glows, you welcomed me graciously into your spacious changing rooms and the miles of lockers and showers within. I'd groom myself into presentableness, and leave, without a second look at you. If only I knew then what I know now, dear Circe. That the city had nothing like you. That the city's clubs were old and worn, and nowhere as beautiful as you. Perhaps then, my darling, I would've been more appreciative of you. Maybe I would've realized how much I loved you. Alas, now, it is too late. I move to New York soon, and our little post graduate meetings must come to an end. The cycling…read moreclass I liked and was the only one that started on time, my work schedule changes so I can't go to that one anymore. The other classes start at least 10 mins late, which I sorta got used to and stopped coming early but you never really know when they'll start. The barre class (half the reason I joined was because I love barre and it was at a good time) I had to give up on a couple months in cause every week the teacher saunters in anywhere from 10 to 25 mins late yawning and scratching her butt, doesn't have any explaination or even acknowledgment that she's very late. I asked front desk about that and they said it's cause she has to get her kids to school. Should they maybe change class start time then? The equipment here is pretty old. It's fine if you're joining to lift weights, and kinda nice for that as the gyms never crowded. I woulnt recommend if cardio's your thing, there's no stair machine and the elipticals are as good as unusable, they screech with each step.

I recall it that if you signed up for a year membership and chose auto deduct from a bank account, it was $42-$43/month. If you did month to month, it was around $51/month. A big reason why I left was the price. Yes, that price does include all the classes, which they offer a lot (Yoga, Cycling, etc...), but it still wasn't worth it. 2. The staff was really nice BUT for some odd reason, whether it is a manager's decision or not, they use ROOMBA Vacuums. Clever way to clean but when you start getting into your workout, you will be surprised at how many times that little ROOMBA keeps tapping your foot or runs into your equipment. It is very annoying, thats a petty complaint nonetheless. Ive heard rumors about the manager and I've tried to stay away from him as much as possible because he seems untrustworthy and cares more about the dollar than the people. 3. They had a lot of equipment, so whatever type of gym rat you were, beginner to expert, you could find something. However, when they first moved into the new building by the Round Barn by Mattis, they had all the machines in that first area right by the desk. It opened up for more cardio space and more space for other benches and so forth. For some reason, they decided to move all of that around and make that entire area a section called the GRID. It is supposed to be an High Intense Workout similar to a Cross Fit type. Problem is, I went to the gym a lot, 4-5 times a week and saw nobody doing the Grid (unless they worked there). You had to pay another stupid hefty fee to have a session in the Grid. A complete waste of space and could be utilized more efficiently. 4. The Locker Rooms are so small. Such a downgrade from the facility on Galen Ave. Such a dissapointment, 2 showers, 2 stalls, and literally a 7X10 sq ft room with 2 benches for changing. As Game of Thrones would say, "Shame, Shame, Shame." 5. Cancellation was easy, walked up to an associate, said I want to cancel, filled the paperwork out, and I returned my key fob. Simple, no hassle. You get what you pay for with this gym. Quality equipment and plenty of it with tons of classes and floor space to have them. But I can go to planet fitness for $10/month and get the same workout and save $300 and not deal with any of what was mentioned above.

I was so surprise that he didn't have a yelp site yet (dudes been doing this for the last 20 years), but when I was looking for a boxing gym, 3 dudes from the area all named Coach Luyando. I can see why. He's been functioning by word of mouth and its hella evident that he's good at what he does. It's a boxing gym so don't expect the amenities of sauna and stuff, just expect to be worked out and I mean really really really really worked out. You work out side by side licensed boxers and those hungry for the license, so expect to be pushed. Yes, it is predominantly male gym so it can be intimidating (at least for me it was) when you first walk in, but you quickly recognize that people are there to train and coach and the senior members of the gym will make sure you ain't looking like a fool or feeling alienated. It's a great gym. And feel lucky to have found it.

Kicked to the Curb, Ghosted and Ripped Off--After being a loyal and consistent client at Kinex for…read moreover 9 years, staying through management and staff changes, staff bickering, downsizing and the COVID pandemic closure, I was notified by my trainer of more than a year and a half, that she was leaving under unclear circumstances. She told me to expect a refund of $150.00 for pre-paid, unused sessions. She informed me that there was no one there to train me any longer. When I asked for some explanation, she said that because it took her 'longer' to put together my workouts because of neck and knee injuries (the knee injury that I got while training with her) that I have, that this was 'toxic' for her. Yeah, she actually said that. And, yeah, a 'personal' trainer, whose job by definition is to customize workouts for individual clients based on their limitations and goals actually told me that the time she needed to do her job as it related to me was 'toxic' to her. Regarding the unused sessions, the refund never came. After I attempted to find out when and how I would receive the refund from the manager, he told me that he didn't know, and claimed that he had never done one before. I thought this was unlikely, given that he's the manager. He pushed me off to the owner who cannot be reached directly because all of the contact numbers on the website are out of service. Then the manager just ghosted me. So, if you're considering going to Kinex, think about how they treat long-time clients, and go elsewhere.

Yoga is often disrupted by simultaneous fitness classes going on in the studio in the next room over that you can hear through the wall. Sometimes there are only 15 minutes between classes and it's hard to maneuver around the people coming/going and you feel really rushed. Please space out your classes better throughout the day. No waiting area so everyone is just crammed in the lobby. Really odd class times and nothing in the morning except for a 6am option... what kind of a yoga doesn't have a 9am option? Some good teachers, some not so great. It's nice during the summer, but when the students are in town it's kinda unbearable. Lavender towels after a hot class are their best feature. Unfortunately there aren't any decent yoga studios in town so this is your best bet.

If it sucked so bad the 5am, 6am, and after-work classes would not be in such high demand. OTF Champaign is popular because the workouts are awesome, the coaches and staff are great, their class times are frequent and convenient, and the facility is clean and well-managed.
