We partook in strawberry shortcake, lemonade, a scavenger hunt through the whole garden, and brought home a FABULOUS glass bird bath for our garden. I could not believe how many lilies they had! Three giant gardens! You can even buy/order plants/rose bushes here for your garden at home. This would also be an absolutely smashing place for a wedding ceremony or engagement photos! There is a beautiful rose garden with a water fountain in the middle and a good sized gazebo as well! Check out my pics :-)

The plants in each section were well taken care of, and the design with the pyramids separating the different ecosystems was pretty unique. There's also a koi pond here. It'll probably take about an hour or less to walk through all the plant exhibits. They also sell plants too in the gift shop area. They have a small cafe to rest, but the drink was okay.

Amy and Rick from Barr Estate winery do a fantastic tour! 2…read moreacres of raspberry's- 3 weeks of raspberry picking- can you imagine?! They need 2400 lbs for their wine. And the rhubarb and raspberries are hand picked. The Cherry's are harvested with a harvester and it sounds like quite an interesting piece of equipment. They are considered a cottage winery so they can only make wine out of what they can grow. Go local! They only use the juice from their fruits and never the pulp of the fruit so they use a fruit press. Takes 4 weeks to get everything pressed. And the pulp- well it all goes to the sheep. And the sheep do their thing. The compost goes back out in the fields this completing the circle of life. Rhubarb and raspberry only have enough sugar to get the wine to about 4% so they add more sugar to get the wine up to 12%. They do a cool fermentation that takes 42 days. Takes longer for the yeast to eat all the sugar and at the end there is no sugar left. So they sweeten the wine back up. They filter their wine 4 times and they also filter with a high quality filter at the very end that filter sterilizes their wine. Since they do that they don't have to add sulphites to their wine. So cool! No herbicides or pesticides out in the field and they don't want to use harsh chemicals in the wine process. Their goal is 12000 bottles of wine a year, 3000 of each of the three flavours. But they have a Cherry Port coming soon and we can't wait to try it! Check out their discounted tour deal on Groupon too!

We had a great experience here. I purchased a winery tour from Groupon, they do tours even through…read morethe winter. Winter tours involve a complete explanation of the wine making process from picking the fruit to bottling the wine. Each step and the tools involved are explained along the way. There is a very organic flow of how the presentation comes together, like you're being sped through the entire process, which normally takes months. The winter tour goes into depth over the science behind how the wine comes together, the choices they made as a "cottage winery" and how they came to produce such a nice product. They will only produce 4 wines in as many bottles as the harvested fruit will make, they have to use whatever they can grow on their land and they keep all of their ingredients and processes as simple as possible to retain the flavor of the fruit in their wines. Seems simple but it's very cleverly thought out in its own complicated way. If any part of their process changed they wouldn't be able to make the wines they make, it's that simple. "The Barb" is a rhubarb red wine. Very light in body and flavorful. The colour resembles a rosé, it has a light finish with the slight bitterness of rhubarb on the tongue. That was our first sample. "The Ruby" is a rhubarb strawberry red that feels very substantial. Strawberry smells fill the room when you're holding a glass and there's a crisp bite to this wine with a sweet strawberry finish. It leaves you wanting another sip, making this wine an insidious guest at your next party that wants to stay and cause trouble ;). This was my favorite. "The Other Red" is made with raspberry. I'm not a huge fan of sour tastes, this one was a bit tart, has strong body and lots of interesting flavours. After talking with Rick, the idea of adding a wine in oak barrels, or even better in of oak whiskey barrels, would transform this wine (an idea they are toying with) but it was a bit too sour for me. "The Jewel" is a soon-to-be-released fortified wine coming out in May 2018 that has me very excited. I want able to taste that one yet because it's still in production. You are able to buy directly from Barr Estate, just call or text if you want one or two bottles and they'll accommodate you. There have been some events held on their grounds, which would make for a very interesting reception venue, unlimited boutique wines made 100 feet away? Heck yeah. Go for the Groupon, get the tour. Warm weather tours involve seeing the orchards, sheep, Alpaca, the dogs and the beautiful rustic farm. Cherry blossoms come out for a week, book your tour then and you'll get an unforgettable stroll through all the cherry trees with white fragrant flowers... Seriously, they run groupons all year long for the tours, winter groups are usually under 5 or 6 people, summer tours are 20+.

Amazing Christmas displays. Beautiful light displays. Holiday music setting up that cheerful mood…read more Fabulous food options. Glow is located in the Edmonton expo center. It's in hall a and b. Once inside you are transformed into a Christmas fairytale...or so the theme feels like that this year. It was a beautiful walk through which takes about 45 minutes to breeze through it. But definitely about an hour and a half is sufficient. You can get all your Christmas photos and get your glow on!!! Personally the horse carriage and the hanging lights you walk through are so fun. I loved it! The little lit up train was also very very cute!!! In hall a there is a fun area and lots of food options...I personally liked the grilled cheese food truck. They even have a Christmas market there to buy some goodies! Neat little concept for sure. There is s mandatory $10 parking fee...which is a ding but at least the parking is secure and safe with minimal walking to the expo center. Overall. It's worth the money spent. Get glammed up. Check your coat so you get beautiful photos. And definitely have a drink and enjoy the beautiful Christmas lights!!!!

Lights, lights, and more lights! Glow has some lovely and large displays which make for nice…read morebackgrounds for photos for families, friends, and couples. If it was busy, it might take time to get your photo in the perfect spot. On a weeknight, it was mostly families with little ones to enjoy the train ride and lights. Most of the time, we didn't have to wait too long for photos in certain spots. Glow is in two adjacent halls with one hall having a stage and vendors selling holiday themed items. There wasn't any entertainment on the stage when were were there. The other hall had food trucks, tables and chair, large displays, and Santa! The line up to see Santa wasn't long and there's a helper to take photos with Santa on your phone. I was expecting more light exhibits but it was a bright place and something fun to do during the holidays.

It was way too loud this year! The tents were blaring music as loud as the stages which were…read morealready too loud. I'm talking 90 to 100 DbA. This is dangerous and can lead to hearing loss for families with children. What an irresponsible bunch of organizers to ruin such a good festival. . Otherwise the 70 or so countries had nice displays and merchandise in the tents. The food was good and you didn't need to buy food tickets, just pay at each tent with your debit or credit card. No cash. There was also an air conditioned building to cool off in. They also made the free Borden parking lot paid which was an exorbitant $20 to park. $10 would have been OK. Otherwise parking was gouging.

This is the first year where I've basically been able to eat everywhere. I particularly liked Morocco and Barbados! Nice! It's awesome to see the community come together every year to host this festival. I haven't danced since 2016, but I definitely had a great time watching others! One thing I think would be great is to add to the idea of keeping the festival a bit more sustainable. I know it is a lot of people but I couldn't get over the insane amount of waste! Wtf! Trash all over the place! I appreciated the recycle station but damn, lets encourage people to bring reusable cutlery. Still one of my favourite festivals though!

The perogies, the honey wine, kids clothes, art work honestly the list goes on. So much good stuff and locally made! It was fabulous to see in one place. You'd think it would be a shambles having so many venders but it was really well laid out with lots of space to walk between. Im not gonna lie, there were a ton of strollers especially on the Friday but it wasn't a big deal because the space was so well organized. The map showed vendor listings and layout of the hall. Security were super helpful even the parking guy was a gem. Wonderful annual event to have at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

I didn't think I had gone to make it before but I was reminded that we went years ago when it was much smaller. I have a friend who is a Makie vendor and she really enjoys being part of the show. The parking was $10 so that was good that it was a reduced price. We arrived a few hours before closing on Friday evening and although it was busy it wasn't too cramped that we couldn't walk on both sides of the aisle to check out the booths. There wasn't much of a line to get in and be provided our names on a list to get in for free. Although there are some similar handmade categories such as jewelry or essential oils, there were are some unique items that are more suited to my taste. I was able to find something for myself and a few gifts for others. Not all of the Makies are local but it's also nice to see the new ones that I have not seen that other shows before. I also like there was one aisle with the food vendors. There were a few spots where there was tables and chairs set up for those who wanted a break from the walking and browsing. There were also food trucks and a place to sit at tables for a break. This isn't a show that I would come to regularly but if I'm looking for an unique gift, I would consider it.
