Many times I have been on trail rides and feel guilty because the horses are not well cared for. Not the case here. Shirley is the owner and the trail guide and she treats each of her animals like a well loved family pet. I had a wonderful ride on a mare that actually responded to my cues instead of just plodding along. The trail is beautiful and we saw a young red tailed hawk. Shirley is very knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area. I used to ride almost daily when I was a teen but I was nervous about riding again in my fifties. After this ride I feel my confidence has returned. Even got to lope/canter a bit. The ride was over 90 minutes long. I would recommend this facility to riders of all ages and abilities. read more

Beautiful trails through the palm forest. I'll second a few other reviews- Shirley is a gruff older horsewoman. Don't go inside the house, my friend almost fell through the floor. I believe all her horses are "rescues". She has a lot of quirks. Don't pat the horse- that's their punishment? Well, horses should not have any punishment, what's that about? Don't dare knot the reins. Don't ask to mount by yourself. Your best bet is to put that you are a beginner. I think she is kinder then. She upset me at first by trying to one up me. Everything I did was wrong. I decided she would not steal my joy of being on a horse and the ride went well from there. It was a beautiful day for riding. I'll be going back with my best riding buddy from childhood, but put that we are beginners to avoid the ridicule. Oh and the price is very reasonable. Ignore her and you'll enjoy the ride! read more

Let me begin by saying I am not a fan of horses. They kind of creep me out. (And I think they know that.) So when my husband surprised me by signing us up for a group horseback riding activity with his company I wasn't thrilled. Fear of horses aside, I set off Saturday with the group excited to do something new. The organizer of the event talked about this business on the way out to Cocoa and really praised the owner and her animal rescue. He mentioned that not only does she rescue horses but she rescues dogs and cats as well. His wife gave us a little warning that the home the business is run out of should probably be condemned, but the horseback riding operation was top notch, so not to be alarmed. I will give you a stronger warning. When you arrive avoid going inside the house at all costs. This means stop at the nearby gas station to use the restroom before you arrive. Trust me. Now on to the horses. There were about 9 people in our group. We ranged from completely inexperienced (me) to the event organizer, who rides frequently. The owner took care to match each of us up with a horse that matched our abilities. The more experienced riders were at the front of the pack, while the rest of us held up the rear. (My horse, Sadie, is normally used for children, which made me feel better. She pretty much went on auto-pilot.) In addition to the owner there were 2 other trail guides who rode with us. One in the middle of the group and another at the back to help us along the way. The guide in the back with us was a youngish girl (probably around 13?) and she was great! We had a lot of fun talking to her and she was great at telling the horses what to do. The trail itself was very nice. It seemed like a pretty long ride (over an hour for sure) and the trail winds through narrow paths in the wood and more open areas where the horses could run. Yep, we were told how to have the horses jog and canter. That kind of terrified me the first time, but it got better. Towards the end I was no longer in fear for my life and was actually having a lot of fun. Overall it was a great experience and I will probably go back. It was a great group activity. Members of our group who had ridden before had a lot of positive things to say about the business and I trust their opinion. If you go be sure to wear a hat, long pants, and sunscreen. Our ride was at 11:00 and it was hot and sunny. Even though much of the trail is in the woods there are still open areas where you are likely to get sunburned. Oh, and one other thing. The owner is so, so nice and offered to give us all eggs before we left. (There are chickens all over the place.) So we each took home a bunch of fresh farm eggs. Well, I learned the hard way at breakfast the next morning that you need to check eggs to see if they are fertilized or not. Yuck. =( So if you take the eggs, Google candling eggs first and figure it out. read more

So much fun!!! I went for my bday and had the time of my life. The owner was so nice and the horses were well trained. The scenery was beautiful and I loved how she walked us through everything, and gave us some history about the place. We even got to trot and canter which was super fun! We had a family member who was down visiting and really wanted to go horseback riding. This place was able easily able to accommodate us and had specific ride times that worked with our schedule. The tour guide, Shirley, was friendly and knowledgeable. She made our group feel welcomed and, for those of us less experienced, safe. It was a nice trail ride. Found this facility in Google map quest of the address and just showed up yesterday. There was a sign on the gate saying let yourself in and close the gate behind you. When we drove down the long driveway to the house we were greeted by barking dogs and eventually buy a very unpleasant woman who made me feel as if I was bothering her. Grounds and house were unkempt,horses on the thin side. Could not have been West welcome to buy this woman would not recommend. read more

Definitely one of my favorite horse tours in central FL ! We got to trot and canter which was the highlight of our tour! Shirley was kind and answered all our questions. I see a review calling her rude, I strongly disagree. She welcomed us and was very friendly and informative. You can tell she loves what she does. Not to mention, She deals with 800+lb animals everyday, she has to have some stern tone in her voice. She was encouraging and positive when I felt nervous or If I was doing a command incorrectly. She was quick to help and kept the group together. If I could take lessons from Shirley I would. Her horsemanship is impeccable, the horses are well taken care of and are good listeners. my boyfriends horse made him look like he was a professional rider! I recommend anyone who loves to ride or is a first timer. She catered to everyones riding experience. Five of us booked this ride for my birthday and we had a great time. The trail takes one all through old Florida vegetation. The trial leader, Shirley, was so nice and informative. She explained the trail and history of it as we rode. She also taught all of us the proper way to ride, hold the reins, etc. I would definitely recommend this trail ride for anyone who loves the outdoors and travel through time. read more

My birthday is Tuesday I love horses and we're thinking about taking there tour.It sounds amazing.

I did not enjoy my ride with this place. I had not ridden a horse in several years and I was thinking I wanted to buy a horse (I had horses growing up and yes I do know how to ride). My experience was so awful it caused me to rethink the idea of buying a horse. The place is across the street from the prison, and it is very country, which is fine with me. The woods and trails we rode on were good and it was a nice place for a ride. The complaint I had is not the place or the facility, or even the horses, it was totally the personality of the owner. The horses were very gentle and demotivated (i.e. plugs). She is delusional and believes we are all riding beautiful, spirited, very highly trained horses who are highly bred and would respond to our every twitch of the reins or brush of our heel. She was very critical of me (just sitting there on a deadhead horse not moving) that I was afraid to move because she would say I was doing it wrong. I was holding the reins wrong, sitting wrong, kicking wrong, breathing wrong. She even said that the reason my dead-head plug wouldn't gallop was because I wasn't flexing my ass cheeks correctly. She insulted me and accused me of hurting this dead-head horses mouth, when in reality I never even pulled back on the reins. A bag of potatoes could have been strapped on the saddle and the horse I was riding would have plodded along in exactly the same way. Riders are told they must mount from a platform. I asked to mount the normal way but was told that is not allowed. Before we began we were waiting and I kicked my horse to walk forward a step or 2 so I could hand my phone to another rider to take a picture of me. when I gave it a little kick, it started backing up (clearly disobeying my wish to step forward). The owner then yelled at me and said 'these horses are trained to only walk single file, and not to go until the gate is open!' well from that one tiny kick and back up-step, getting yelled at, and it all went downhill even from there. my split reigns were long, and I asked if they could be tied together and she yelled at me saying 'NO! That is what we would do for a 6-year old!' then about 20 minutes later after she had corrected me 10 times for no reason she came over and grabbed the reins and tied them in a knot and put them over the saddle horn and told me to leave them there, (which actually pulled them tighter than any time I had pulled on them at all). So she just called me worse than a 6 year old. (for just sitting there doing nothing). I think my mistake was telling her I had ridden in my past and she needed to criticize me in order to make her feel superior in her horsemanship. Also I was alone, and felt bullied. read more

Awesome family experience. Employees were so helpful making sure all safety measures were followed. They patiently answered all of our questions and took us through interesting terrain all the while teaching us about the area and the horses. Horses were clearly well trained and followed all commands like pros. Definitely hope to return again. read more

Today we brought the kids on a trail ride with Shirley. It is obvious that she loves animals especially her horses. There were zero problems on our ride. She was very personalable and full of knowledge about her horses and the lay of the land. We got our monies worth and then some. As far as trail rides and horses go, the experience was pretty standard in terms of the trail and horses...I did enjoy the fact you have the opportunity to lope on a few short occasions. That said, the facilities were less than sanitary and the owner (and leader of the group) was super condescending to everyone. She actually hit the horse I was sitting on at one point because he rubbed his head on her as she rode by....I've ridden for many years and own a horse so I understand there needs to be respect and a pecking order established between horse and rider, however for someone else to hit a horse that you are sitting on, especially when you have no clue how the horse will react was very inappropriate in my opinion. She was yelling at her horse throughout the ride and then screamed (over and over) at her dogs for barking as we approached the house. My advice; if you are looking for a relaxing ride in a professional facility, this is probably not the place for you. If you are thick skinned and can tune her out, (as I did) you can probably enjoy yourself a bit. At the end of the day, taking her out or the equation, the horses and the trails were worth the $35. read more
