I'm usually wary to recommend doctors as the experience varies greatly from their workload and supporting staff, but Dr. Hosalkar is different. Various members of my family has been seen by Dr. Hosalkar over the years for join pain and his care has been top notch every single time. His care and expertise allowed my grandmother to recover some mobility in her fragile condition and greatly improved her quality of life! He goes above and beyond for his patients and he won't spare any effort to make sure his patients get the care they need. His staff may change but Dr. Hosalkar remains a resolute professional and a paradigm example of what healthcare professionals should be. I wouldn't mind traveling far just to be seen by him, he's that good of a doctor and an even better person. Thanks for everything you do, Doctor. I was seen by Dr. Hosalkar for my neck injury recently and I see him a good humored person. I know that as a surgeon, his schedules are tight, but he nevertheless manages to be hands on in his fully staffed office. He jokes around and yet he runs a strict business, especially when it comes to legalities. I know these matters because I am a keen observer. I don't know how they run their business here but this place is a joke. I was in a car accident on 12/24 and have a broken wrist. I got a referral from the emergency room to go to this doctor for a cast. After my accident I spent 4 days trying to contact anyone in the office and kept getting send to voicemail. After the 3rd day I finally decided to leave a message only to realize their "inbox is full". What? I called one last time on the 4th day only to have someone actually PICK UP for the first time! He got all my info and as he was getting ready to schedule me for an appointment, out of nowhere he said they don't take my insurance and he'll have to call me back later after he speaks to someone. Not a surprise, that call never came. What kind of business is this? Worst ever. read more

Dr. Hosalkar is an amazing doctor he did a hip preservation surgery for my fiancé. Before she went in for the surgery she could not even enjoy walks on the beach. She literally wanted to cry because waking is a great way for us to relax and enjoy the wonders of San Diego. I am thrilled with her results she is pain free and if you need a hip preservation surgery Dr. Hosalkar is the best. One tip I would recommend is make sure you communicate with your insurance company that everything is going to be covered. There is one device that the insurance company doesn't want to pay for so we are battling them with that issue. Also after her surgery I went in twice to see Dr. Holsalkar once for my knee (paintball) and another for my lower back. I have a treatment plan and I am eager to start physical therapy to get rid of this pain. In my honest opinion he's an amazing doctor read more

It's sad for me to write this, because Dr. Hosalkar is a nice guy. That being said, I would not recommend any of my family or friends see him for my experience alone. All of my office visits, billing, etc. were fine. The problems were around my actual surgery. I had a hip preservation surgery, well what was supposed to be a hip preservation surgery. I went to him in good faith as the surgeon who I was originally going to see was out of network with my insurance. I looked online and he had pretty good reviews, he was a very nice doctor and had good bedside manner. During my surgery he fractured a part of my bone that was not supposed to be fractured, did not make an additional cut that was supposed to be made, went on telling me it was healing well and I could return to all activity, left a screw in my hip that had broken and sent me on my way. Even with surgeons, accidents happen, so for all I know the accidental fracture may or may not have been his mistake. Regardless, he performed a surgery he had not been formally trained in, did not complete the surgery the way it should have been completed after the fact, left a broken screw in my hip when there are tools to remove them and worst of all led me to believe that all in my hip was fine. I went to a few different surgeons after I felt like something was not right and was told my hip was now in a terrible position and there was an unhealed fracture from the initial surgery 15 months later (keep in mind Dr. Hosalkar told me I could return to all activity) and I should take legal action for a medical malpractice case. Dr. Hosalkar may be well trained in specific areas, but was not in my case, so be sure to do your research and go to a surgeon who is an expert in their field. read more

Dr. Hosalkar is not concerned with his patients treatments or progress if you are seeing him on a personal injury case. He ONLY cares about $$$MONEY$$$. The most unprofessional staff I've experienced. The Dr is always 30 minutes to an hour late. There is no one in the front office available to help. Do not get a cortisone injection from this Dr. Im in so much pain, and CANNOT get in touch with the Doctor for follow up. read more

Took my mom, who is recovering from hip Surgery to see Dr. Holsalkar as a new patient. She had her surgery done IN FL but is recovering with my family in CA and was hesitant to come here and find a good doctor. We were impressed by the kindness and friendliness of his staff in the waiting room, and in the patient exam room. They were detailed, patient and thorough in answering questions and giving info. He had an excellent bedside manner with my 81 yr old mother, very kind, thorough nd patient just like his staff. He gave detailed information about post op recovery, info regarding the likely causes of my mom's fall while walking, info on medical devices, nutrition and suggestions of what insurance would cover. His intelligence and skill were evident in the time spent with us. It is no wonder he is voted the best ortho in San Diego for 5 yrs in a row. We are excited for a follow up visit. read more

Went to get my Dupuytren's looked at after giving them my insurance information and being told I was covered. Six months later I get a bill for $1000 saying I wasn't covered. Dr said I needed surgery soon. Paid another $1000 out of pocket for an MRI and was told I had a partial tear in my cartilage in my wrist and needed to see his specialist who he referred me to. That specialist was too busy to make an appointment so I made one with his colleague who had more availability but didn't know what my ailment was beforehand. That Dr told me my Dupuytren's was ok and didn't need surgery. I feel conned. read more

Don't waste your time. Disabled senior that fell on left knee. Would not see me because I could give card information for $50 fee for failed appointment. They do this then refund days later if you keep your appointment. Since my appointment was cancelled they refuse to give me my Xray results and said we can offer a telephone appointment for results but will have to wait another day. So that's a total of 4 days on a busted knee cap!!! No thank you. They are only about the money!!! Don't waste your time!! read more

I can't thank enough Dr Holsakar and his team for helping me with my foot fracture!!! Ever since my appointment in April and my surgery, they have been nothing but supportive and professional. Dr. Hosalkar himself is a pretty good doctor. He takes his time with you and answers all your questions. My surgery went well. I don't think he is thorough enough though and I have issues with his office staff, both of which impacted my recovery. Following my foot surgery, I was issued an extra large boot by his staff because "this is the last one we have". I am a 5'4" female. I didn't question their judgment and I paid the price of going along with this. The physical therapist that I later worked with, because of new leg pain in both legs, told me that overuse of the good leg through the 8 weeks of recovery compromised the strength of that leg. I am certain that both of my legs hauling around that heavy boot played a part in this, too. Dr. Hosalkar never once suggested additional physical therapy when I complained to him about the leg pain. I had to suggest it to HIM and then he agreed. The office staff was also disorganized with my paperwork and billing and it was often difficult to get through on the phone. I recently just broke a bone, but will not be going back to Dr. Hosalkar for the reasons I stated above. read more

I had emergency surgery a few months ago to repair a shattered kneecap. I had suffered also a broken shoulder and was in a lot of pain. My bill is now well over $600.00 and is now in collections. I think he is a good surgeon (hence the two stars), however, I should have been told that he did not take my insurance. The hospital had my insurance info. When I started getting injections in the doctors office, the procedure on the first visit is to show your insurance cards. I was again not told that they would not accept my insurance. I am also being charged I have no idea how much, for the surgery. It seems they could have called in a doctor who did take my insurance. Almost all physicians in that group do, so again, I had no reason to think Dr. Hosalkar did not. I was not conscious enough to refuse surgery. Apparently they don't tell you before surgery that you are not covered, because it would impede the healing process, so they say. Why then did they not call in a doctor who took my insurance And, the doctor said he would load me up with pain medicine, but I guess he forgot. I was in utter agony begging nurses for relief, but they felt qualified to tell me I was not in pain. I had a freshly broken shoulder and a shattered knee. Add to my pinched cervical nerve, arthritis and more. I was in agony. Dr Hosalkar works with a team of doctors, all of whom take my insurance, so again, I had no reason to think he did not. I continued with my follow ups until the day of my appointment to discuss a minor but necessary final procedure. The office called me that day and told me that if I did not bring $50.00, I would not be seen. I am low income. My insurance company actually called the doctors office and offered to pay the outstanding bill, but were turned down. They want the money from someone who can ill afford it (me). Great that it is now in collections, so will go on my credit record as well. And I still need the final surgery. Since I wrote this, the office called me wanting to know why I had not been back. Clearly communication among the staff is not happening. I returned the call and explained to the woman on the phone all of what I have written here. The conversation started on a positive note, but quickly turned sour. It was clear that there was to be no compassion here. Instead, my bill was transferred to another credit agency and increased to over $1,000.00. This is supposedly a ten percent fee from the collection agency. Ten percent of $600.00+ over 4 months does not equal $400.00. Being disabled, senior, and extremely low income, housing is almost impossible to find. Any black marks on my credit report can prevent my getting housing. And that is a big deal. I still feel that this is unethical on the grounds stated above: -- the hospital had my up to date insurance information -- my insurance company called the office with an offer to pay this bill. -- On my first visit to the office (across the street from the hospital where I was getting rehab), I presented my insurance cards. I was not told that my insurance was not accepted. That should have been, as it is with every other doctor's office, standard procedure. read more

In February of 2016, I was hit by a car while crossing an intersection, resulting to many injuries all over my body. Even after getting out of the hospital, I told Dr. Hosalkar that I was not able to move my big left toe after the accident, and he suggested to get PRP (plasma) injections in my foot before considering surgery to repair the fractured tendon. After a week of the injections my toe has been able to move again. I thank him so much from saving me from another surgery. With the many doctors I have had, he has been my favorite because he is so charismatic and makes you feel secure about any treatment he will consider. His staff is also very welcoming and and such a big help with anything you need. Thank you Dr. Hosalkar! read more
