My last meal in Cesky Krumlov had to be quick because I had a bus to catch in 75 minutes. Tucked away in a quiet alley, this restaurant doesn't look like much, but go through the building and they have wonderful outdoor patio right on the Vtlava river...simply gorgeous! I told the waitress my bus situation, and she happily pointed to the dishes that could come out quickly. 245CZK/$11 Goulash with bread...the waitress came back in less than 5 minutes with this bowl filled with rich, hearty, beef stew. The smell was mouthwatering and fragrant...the generous beef hunk with tender and nearly melted in my mouth. The fresh bread was a perfect vessel of transporting the rich soup into my mouth. 72CZK/$3.25 Cabbage soup...this surprisingly tasty soup did wonders to the cabbage, so good! This restaurant is cool because it's located in a medieval building and they lean into that with their decor - wooden tables, tapestries, clay pots, chanting background music - so if you're looking for something that feels historical, this is the spot. However, the food was only ok. And the service felt very hands off. It felt like we were disrupting them when we entered the restaurant and when we asked for the bill. You have to be a fan of slightly different czech cousine to enjoy this place. They don´t offer common meals like other restaurants (doesn´t matter if current or medieval style). This place is hidden in one side street but it´s worth to be found. It has a very nice garden with beautiful view. So don´t sit inside. There is not enough room anyway so garden is really the only good option. Service could be a bit better. They have that disease of tourist restaurants that tourist will come anyway so why to be nice but I was there more times and sometimes they have light moments and than it´s not so bad. But it should be all the time. Ok, meals. As I said at the begining, it´s not really typical czech cousine. They present it as a old czech cousine and it´s mainly true. Just remember that our ancesters were used to different flavors and ingrediences so don´t be dissapointed if you get something else than you have expected. To be honest I don´t like it there so much, but my friends and wife do so that´s why we go there everytime when we are in Krumlov. They have a local beer Eggenberg and it´s pretty good. Ordered the bohemian feast for two, rabbit and pheasant. Everything on this massive beautiful plate was so good!! Ate too much, hurt to walk home, but I'd do it again. Mead was excellent, and warm! Had garlic soup too. Entire bill for so much food, 24$. We ate in "the fish bowl" little room with big windows that over looked river, totally awesome! This small place has an entire section of vegetarian items on the menu. truly delicious. The service is wonderful. If you get outdoor seating, by the river, you have a great view. For someone who has trouble finding vegetarian food in Europe, this was a delightful discovery and I have our tour guide to thank for it. Will definitely recommend it read more

This little hidden gem in the the picturesque medieval town of Cesky Krumlov is a Czech gastronomical delight! The outdoor dining patio overlooks the Vltava River and has a rustic, romantic ambiance, especially in the evening in the dining area where candles,the flood lights illuminating the nearby castle and the moon provide the only light. This restaurant served up one of the husband and I's least favorite meals in all of central Europe. I had read mixed things on trip adviser, but after wandering around (the extremely touristy) Cesky Krumlov, we didn't find anything that seemed any better and decided on this place. The restaurant felt like the renaissance festival, very fake considering the surroundings. They do have river front seating, but none of those seats were available. We sat at one of their long tables towards the kitchen window (no view) with another couple (who we didn't know). The saving grace of this place was the beer, Eggenberg, (a Cesky Krumlov brew) which was very good. The service here was awful, the wait staff seemed like they hated their lives and were generally miserable. We ordered the garlic soup, the potato pancake side, and the smoked 'meat' with dumplings. The garlic soup was alright, but very thin and not as flavorful as other garlic soups we had on our trip. The potato pancake was bland and awful. The 'meat' turned out to be ham... not exactly what I was expecting... it was ok, but I'm not much for ham. The dumplings were on the firm side. It just wasn't anything special at all. The prices were also high as compared to the prices in Praha. I wouldn't recommend this place. PS their desserts were all sitting out on a table outside with flies all over... yuck. read more

Avoid..repeat...avoid the bohemian feast. it tastes revolting! We try every local food when we travel. The bohemian feast with chicken and pheasant was the worst tasting food we have ever had. To say it was different is an understatement. It tasted horrible.not.one thing on the plate was enjoyable. Cannot understand why anyone would like this. It was dry, overcooked and just awful. We had to go for dessert elsewhere just to get the disgusting taste out of our mouths. They probably don't take credit cards so you can't do a charge back...cash only. As others already mentioned - this place is a hidden gem. In old house with atmospere of medieval pub (no smoking!) with very pleasant service. I ordered garlic soup which reminded me of the one my mom used to make. And than baked millet caserole with cheese. That was simply amazing! Vegetarian optins in czech cuisine are rather limited. This dish was very nicely arranged and really, really very tasty. My husband ordered 'Zahour' - sweet creamy dumplings with blueberry sauce. The great thing - it wasn't sooo sweet as Czech fruit dumplings usually are. Just right with the taste of czech flavorfull blueberries. To close I have pleased my tummy with hot almond mead - right thing for this cold evening :). Highly recommend. read more

Handmade furniture from old wood, a distinctly medieval feel, a beautiful setting on the banks of the Vltava with awesome views of the castle. The Bohemian feast was so good we got it two days in a row. Super nice service and prices are very reasonable. 11 out of 10 in every way. Caveat Emptor! We asked if we needed reservations for a table by the river that evening. The hostess said "no, no reservations needed or provided". We came back that evening and saw the same hostess and she showed us to a vacant table by the river. Before we could sit down a server ran up and said that table was reserved. I reminded the hostess that we had previously asked for a reservation but she had told us these were not provided. She said, "Sorry, too bad!" A charming restaurants near the base of Cesky Krumlov's castle. The food was delicious, a large platter of different types of meat accompanied by vegetables and sauces. They didn't have a huge range of alcoholic drinks but there was plenty of beer, wine and vodka. They certainly don't hold back on the vodka! I have a number of food allergies and we told the restaurant ahead of time so they prepared me a wonderful alternate dish which was very tasty. I'd recommend! read more

I don't recommend this place, because the service is poor and they don't accept credit cards. Cappucino was not cappucino, raspberry lemonade was made of concentrate and icecream was the cheapest icecream from supermarket. If we could give this ZERO we would. The owner/manager/server was miserable, rude and did not have any interest in serving us. The food was worse than any meal we've ever eaten. It was so bad that we actually couldn't stop laughing about it. We moved our food around on our 4 plates (our kids included!) so that it would appear as though we are something. We left and went to get crepes in the street because we were starving! It was so bad we are still laughing about it.
