I was desperate for a room so went here, as it was a floor above the lively and noisy and sexy Los Amigos Sol. Rober was different: it was a hotel. A very quiet hotel. No-one spoke english, not the mum or dad or son, so I had to tweak my courage and use my minor Spanish.
The first room was a twin, EUR75, which I couldn't afford. The second was an ensuite, EUR40, so I thought alright. If I'd turned that down, I'd have probably got a cheaper no suite room, because there were separate bathrooms in the place (where the toilets were that's right no toilet in your ensuite.)
The room had no window, but a television. It had air conditioning that didn't work, but thankfully the room wasn't too hot. The hotel was almost silent, and my room, brilliantly, was pitch dark (because it didn't have a window.) I am a chronic insomniac, the least bit of light and I can't sleep, even with the shutters of Puerto de Gredos in Barco de Avila I couldn't sleep past dawn (noisy birds as well.)
So, silence at night, rare in Madrid and welcome. But the room: it was straight out of a 70s hotel. Anyone who ever stayed in London in the 80s will know what I mean. Tiny, tiny ensuite with no toilet and fizzing electric light that was, shall we say, intermittent. Wifi in the room allegedly but I can't prove that because who takes a laptop on holiday?
I wouldn't stay in the hotel again unless I was with someone, because it was incredibly quiet, so great to sleep. But nothing else. And no breakfast either, unlike Los Amigos Sol, stuff your face and it only cost EUR20 a night. read more
