Where do I start?
From the second I walked through the door and they greeted me at first glance with an excited "Paula, come in", I knew this Hostel was different.
Honestly I was quite shocked to be welcomed by name initially, but I soon realised that that was exactly what was special about this place... They are so attentive and genuinely treat each guest like a friend, not just a client.
The warmth of the staff just emanates through the whole building and it swims in positive energy 24/7. ANYTHING they can possibly do for you is never a drama, eg, After a big night, I woke up the following morning an hour later than breakfast on the day I was about to travel to Mt Vesuvius to horse ride. I was dreading the next 5 hours without a coffee and something in my stomach, until Lucca (who noticed I'd just woken up) immediately rushed around and brought me back an Italian breakfast (espresso with croissant). I so appreciated it and asked what it cost, but would not accept a cent. I have sooo many examples of how glorious the staff are there- far too many to mention. They are just happy, smiling people that obviously enjoy their job and love to help make our stay incredible. Harriet is one of the sweetest, friendliest and most hilarious women I've EVER met, I thoroughly enjoyed our chats and her darling puppy Billy.
Ronnie in the bar is total gold, intelligent conversationalist yet funny as hell, a proud ambassador/excellent guide for Naples AND a phenomenally talented musician.
Valerio, let me walk his dog Serena because I was missing my dog in Australia. Eyrena, Barbara, Ricky, Roberto, everyone was amazing. Tatti from housekeeping was great to see first thing in the morning, a massive smile on her face, often dancing/bopping through the rooms. I hope I didn't miss anyone out...
About the hostel itself, it is spotless, very comfortable, good value, quiet to sleep at, breakfast is free, with 5kg tubs of Nutella for your pleasure as well as many other goodies to eat. A good, safe location with easy public transport access.
There are NO bad points to this Hostel. Some others have left reviews saying that the lockers are a little small, but they are ample for all your valuables like laptops etc and MOST of your other possessions too.
If you do happen to have a large suitcase or backpack, it will be totally safe in the rooms with the way the layout of reception is so centrally placed. Everyone is completely trustworthy there and no one wants to steal your dirty clothes etc anyway...
Bottom line, I originally booked 2 nights there and even though I had already paid for my flights and accommodation for my next destination, it took me just 6 hours to realise I had to change all my plans so I could stay at Hostel of the Sun longer (it was worth all the airline change fees and cancelled booking deposits in Paris)!
I felt more at home there than anywhere else in Europe over my whole 3 month trip...
I realise this review is longer than some novels, but trust me, go and experience this hostel for yourself and you will be raving about it just as much as me. I did NOT want to leave and can't wait to go back one day!!
All the best, Paula. read more
