The restaurant has a warm tavern-style aesthetic--inviting, comfortable, and perfect for a relaxed celebration. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and genuinely personable, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The brunch menu blends English and American influences, offering something for everyone. We tried the Scotch pancakes, which were quite good, and overall everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was pleasant and unhurried--we never felt rushed, allowing us to truly enjoy the food, conversation, and celebration. A great spot for brunch gatherings .

Truth Be Told: Come for the Apps, Stay for the Tequila…read more Tucked away in Hyde Park, Truth Be Told has that cozy, inviting vibe that makes a rainy day feel almost charming. The decor alone had me sold before the food arrived. We went all in on appetizers: fried cheese curds, crab gratin, and beer battered squid. Combined, the portions were enough for five. For entrees, we tried the house burger, lamb shepherd's pie, steak and ale, and fish and chips. The food was perfectly fine, just not the kind that sticks with you. I wouldn't call it bad, but I also wouldn't call it back next week. The real star was the Fizz Sam's Buzz mocktail, which I happily upgraded with a shot of tequila. It was so good I ordered a second without hesitation. The automatic gratuity caught me off guard, mostly because our server seemed to have other tables to tend to more urgently than ours. I love leaving a generous tip when I feel the love, but this time it felt a little preemptively assumed, like a kiss on a first date! Would I return? Absolutely for drinks and appetizers in that cozy space. For a full dinner? Probably not, but that's just my palate. You might disagree, and honestly, I hope you do. Go try it and let me know what you think.

Let me start by saying, I will be creating a standing every other month reservation here. I…read moreabsolutely loved the atmosphere inside. So airy, yet intimate and comfortable. We did come late, which had to do with scheduling conflicts so our server seemed standoffish to begin with, but completely understandable. I'd be the same way. After a few minutes, she warmed up and her personality came out, very sweet! Our round of drinks were: Lychee Love, Apple Cider Margarita, & Campire Biscotti. All exceptional. For our first appetizers, we ordered Short Rib Hummus and Lamb Meatballs. These were great starters, and built anticipation. For my entree, I ordered the Wagyu Cheddar Burger and then, my auntie said the magic words "I think we should try the focaccia bread." If I would have known the Foccacia Bread (with whipped butter and honey) was going to be that superb, cocktails and 6 orders would have been all I needed. Don't get me wrong, the Wagyu Cheddar Burger was scrumptious, but the Foccacia Bread was outstanding. The kitchen was closing and I HAD to ask for more--mind you, I hate doing that. It was THAT good. Will be back on Wednesdays for the $10 cocktails. Overall 9.5/10

Since we were a fairly large party we were seated right in front, so I only had a glance of the remaining tables. Our server Imani was Fantastic! She was very attentive, friendly and warm. She made us feel welcomed and treated us as though we were regulars. As a matter of fact All the staff treated us like family. I only took photos of my plate however everything look appetizing and delicious. The falafel was good, however even better with the sauce on the bottom. We also had hummus with fried chickpeas on top...nice crunch. The salad was delightful (maybe a touch more dressing) loved the pop of pomegranate. I ordered the Salmon (though some of my broccoli was a bit over charred) was delicious. For dessert we all had the crème brûlée. All in all, everything was executed perfectly, appealing to the eyes, very flavorful and scrumptious. We were so impressed we asked to talk with the chef!

The owner is polite and seeks to ensure that all visitors feel safe and wants them to enjoy the venue!! He never turns anyone away if requesting to greet him for a brief introduction when I'm there. I've produced events here and exposed inner city youth to this luxury experience that they may have never had if my team and I hadn't reached out. I expect my guests and business clients will continue to take interest in renting the Grand Ballroom Chicago as executed in the past few years. The list of satisfactory referrals is growing!! #1stladyrebasoul

We've been hosting monthly events here for the past two years for a large crowd. I'm not sure when…read morethe new owner/management took over, but he's always been accommodating. It's a large beautiful (I would like to say historic) venue that has a large dance floor, plenty of seating, huge bar, stage where Live Music or DJ can perform, private dressing room with a small bathroom, and a full-size commercial kitchen to rent if you want to provide food or bring in a caterer. There is a parking lot in the back, as well as across the street, and street parking. The owner has security patrolling the parking lots the entire night. Our guests have never had a problem. They only provide rental space, bartenders, and a few servers/waitresses, you have to provide/hire your own vendors (caterers, DJ, decorations, etc.). In being an Event Planner for the past 30+ years from Corporate to Community events, as with all Service-based businesses, you're going to always have a rotating door when it comes to customer service. It's part of the game. It's hard to find good help these days. My personal experience, as well as my experience in attending other events hosted there, has always been great. I know other event promoters who have also been hosting their events here for awhile, so if it was that bad, we wouldn't still be here. The owner does an excellent job in doing his best to stay on top of it. So when you read other poor reviews, create your own opinion based on your own experience like we did. Otherwise you just might miss out on a GREAT experience!
