It is a relic of a past era, when by-ways and highways were the thing -- no fast moving interstates that took you to big towns and modern multiple-story hotels -- but instead on an adventure through small towns and interacting with the locals. Motels were the thing before hotels. There's something about driving up to the door of your room at a one-story building. The rooms are clean, big (much more than a modern room), but have been modernized with flat screen tvs, wireless, coffee makers. microwave, mini-fridge, and modern lighting. The beds are large and comfortable and the bathroom is big with old-style tile floors. The most interesting thing was the swamp-cooler air conditioner. I didn't know those were a thing in a motel or a hotel, but geez -- did it crank out the cold air. That might have been why I didn't hear any noise from the outside or the rooms next door, though. Rainbow is a easy walk to the state park and a slightly longer, but still do-able walk to the downtown. The manager welcomes all guests, walks them to their room, makes sure the key works, and that the room is ready. Oh, and if you don't know how to operate the a/c, will show you how easy it is and remind you to keep a window open to make the cooler work properly. Had it not been for the tv and coffee maker, I would have believed I'd entered a backward time warp. I'm glad I took a chance on this hotel.

I stayed in a dbl queen room with a wall separating the beds. Both beds were very hard and the pillows were flat. The bedspreads were the old fashioned polyester type and the blanket was also polyester. I woke in the middle of the night freezing. No warm air coming out of the heater. I used pillows to cover my legs. I woke at 6 and my room smelled bad sort of like cat pee. I decided to wash my face and brush my teeth and get dressed and left. I would k no it recommend this place but Kristen is super sweet. Stay at your own risk.

We then went to the store to buy some and had too much so we asked for a cooler to borrow but she didn't have one so she gave us one of her bowls to put it in. She was so cool. The place has been remodeled and the rooms are really clean. The bed was comfortable, the towels fresh, and the place is quiet (except for some screaming kids next to my buddies room) but I wasn't affected. We mentioned it to one of the other ladies and she was apologetic and told us next time she'd put us away from the families. They have a nice grassy area out front with a bbq you can use. We try to visit this park at least once a year, but unfortunately, we missed coming last year. We…read morefinally made it back, and while our trip started out a little rough--our 30-amp cord wasn't working, and it was 30 degrees outside--we were quickly reminded why we love this place. We couldn't find anywhere nearby to buy a new cord and were getting pretty frustrated. I contacted the weekend manager, who reached out to the owner, Dave. He and his wife were absolutely amazing! They came over right away with a cord to try, and even though that one didn't work either, Dave spent about half an hour with my husband trying to troubleshoot the problem. When it looked like we might have to drive two hours back home, Dave and his wife generously offered us a cabin for the night so we'd have a warm place to stay. Their kindness and hospitality went above and beyond. They're also making some wonderful updates to the park, and it's exciting to see it returning to the charm it had years ago. We're so grateful for the care they showed us and can't wait to come back again!

It is a lot of fun to visit with the goats, buffalo, long horns...Wyatt and Lisa were incredible, they were very helpful and very enjoyable to talk with, we also really appreciated the farm fresh eggs we were given on arrival Our dog and Wyatt's dog Jethro were inseparable and played constantly, all the dogs on the property were free to roam and play together. I can't express enough how much we enjoyed our stay at Crippled Spider and am looking forward to our return.

All you get is a note on the office door that states "park anywhere". It was so bad, we left and stayed at a nearby RV park (much nicer too).
