Don't bother booking with hotels.com or anything like that. Just go to their website, email Enis, and book on your own. You'll get a better room for the same price, with lovely soft beds and fluffy down comforters. Which we really needed after 4 weeks of backpacking around Turkey......

Location was incredible....we easily walked to Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia, Eminonu, Spice Market, Grand Bazaar, Sirceki district. With a little more time, we could have walked across the bridge to Taksim Square (25-30 minute walk?) too! Enis is an incredible manager--she emailed us right after the booking was done to see if we wanted her to arrange airport pick-up, she greeted us by name when we rang the doorbell for the first time, and she was transparent and open through all interactions, namely the money exchange. This is a TINY little establishment, and even when we were given a choice of the 2 double-person rooms and chose the larger one, it was very cramped quarters in the room. NOT A PROBLEM THOUGH--who goes to Istanbul to stay in the hotel room?! There was ample built-in storage with hangers, drawers, cabinets all over. The bathroom was about 18 square feet, so if you were at the sink you had to shut the door behind you so you had room to stand there. Definitely only 1 person in the bathroom at a time! Breakfast was through and wonderful...lots of local-made preserves, fresh bread, fresh fruit & veggies, and even Enis's mom's homemade tomato paste bread topping. Incredible! All of this is in a room that overlooks the Bosphorus/Mamara. Currently, they are building a few doors down, so weekdays during the daytime were filled with the sounds of jackhammering :( but since we were out and about all day it didn't bother us. Nighttimes were quiet in this neighborhood. I wish there could be a Tulip Guesthouse everywhere we travel!

I'm only giving it 4 stars because there were two things that bothered me a bit, you have to leave your key at the front desk when you go out. As a female traveler traveling alone, this bothered me a bit. There is usually someone at the front watching the desk so it's not a huge deal. I just am used to walking around with a modern keycard. Not a huge deal, but it's worth mentioning. Secondly, as obvious foreigner, staying in this part of Istanbul can be....annoying. I chose the hotel for its amazing location super close to both mosques. But it's a full tourist location. People stand outside of restaurants and call out to you to come in. You can't comfortably walk down the street without every shop/restaurant owner asking you to come in. It's super annoying and kind of ruined my peaceful solo trip. If you want to stay in a less tourist part of the city stay in KadiKoy. But if you want to be within walking distance to the Blue mosque/Aya Sofia and Topkapi, and don't mind the hagglers: This is overall a wonderful hotel, and I enjoyed my stay while I was there. There's nice view from the terrace. And it's close to the water as well. Also the cleaning ladies are SUPER sweet and took such good care of me. I felt very safe here especially walking around at night. There is also a small bazar up the street, and lots of restaurants super close to the hotel. 4/5!

Location: Less than 5 minutes from Sultanahment tram stop, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern. Plenty of restaurants and shopping within a block. We visited during the off season (late November), so there wasn't any problems with an early check-in. The hotel staff were beyond wonderful and were more than happy to assist us with anything we needed. They offer 24-hour car service for a reasonable fee -- it came in especially handy for early morning airport rides. Complimentary breakfast had a nice variety. Rooms and beds were tiny, but still comfortable given that we didn't spend much time at the hotel.

Our room was clean with a comfortable bed, good shower and nice amenities. I didn't care for the hair dryer that turns off every 2 minutes (a heat saver). Bring your own. We were so busy on our 4 day trip that we didn't have a chance to take advantage of the spa. We didn't even get a chance to turn on the TV. The nice thing is you have restaurants just outside the door with plenty of options and entertainment. The front desk/concierge were extremely helpful and made our trip problem free anticipating all our needs. We felt welcomed from the moment we entered greeting us with cool drinks and hand towels on our arrival day. It was a nice touch as well with the snacks too that they have waiting for you in your room. We loved all the little things they did to make our stay "special." We would definitely stay here again

I spent quite a lot of time researching places and finally settled on Hotel Sultania. The pictures looked amazing and I was willing to splurge a little bit for a rushed night of luxury. To be fair, this really is an amazing location. It wasn't easy for our transportation to find it though and we went around in circles before opting to just get out and find it on foot, at midnight, with luggage, but such is life. Check in was easy and the staff was super nice. The room itself was not quite the luxury suite I had seen in the pictures, and although it was nice and spacious, it was definitely old, dated, and the bathroom needed a serious face-lift. Speaking of the bathroom, the door was odd and served as both the shower door and the entire bathroom door, depending on it's positioning, which resulted in some bathroom sharing issues between the two of us. The free breakfast in the morning seemed quite good, but alas our tour guide showed up early and we began the tour after only 3 minutes of checking out breakfast. Bags were stored until the end of our tour and our driver took us back to the airport which was great. The staff all seemed very pleasant and we felt very welcomed!

Shower head wouldn't stay up in position, one lamp had a broken on off pull cord, bed cover too short creating a nightly battle. Staff is friendly but always trying to push tourist traps like guides, dinner river cruises and such. Housekeeping was stellar, the location is an easy walk to the many must-see sites and a good base to explore while being just a tad away from the worst of the tourist concentration. We stayed in two hotels in Istanbul, at this one we did not encounter aggressive restaurant door touts like we did at the not that distant Obelisk hotel, but just a 10 or 15 minute walk makes a big difference in this regard. A true historic Hamam next door, far superior to the tourist trap spas. The Agora is surrounded by good restaurants, a couple were truly excellent. I loved the breakfasts here. You can meet some nice cats around the hotel, get some cat treats at the grocery across the street. I'm telling you the view from the top floor terrace is simply spectacular.

Loved the roof-top 360-degree views of the city on the deck, especially Hagia Sophia! Will always remember the 4 am "wake-up calls" resounding from every surrounding mosque, mixed in with screaming seagulls and fighting alley cat sounds. Loved the 300-year-old Hamam/bathhouse across the street. Overall, quaint and pleasant. Would consider coming back and booking a top floor with the sweeping views of the Bosphorus.
