Oh Hot Topic. I honestly thought after I was done with high school I'd never have a reason to shop here again, but the fact that the store has embraced what pop culture as well as goth culture has to offer means that this store has made the transition to adulthood right along with me. Because I am the kind of adult who needs "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars" and "Doctor Who" and Marvel and Disney in my life - and I apologize to no one for it. ;) Hot Topic honestly has so much stuff I don't know where to start with this review. Jewelry, shirts, toys, accessories, dresses, hoodies, mugs, pillows, keychains, buttons...and more...all featuring a variety of pop culture logos and art and characters. The store is divided up by fandom moreso than the type of merchandise being sold - so, "Harry Potter" is kept together, "Star Wars" is kept together, etc. etc. It makes browsing easier because if you're not interested in a TV show or movie, you can skip that section and move along. In addition to their normal shopping options, depending on the hot movie of the season they'll have an entire corner dedicated to merchandise from that release. It's standard to find merchandise related to everything I listed up above; come Halloween you can expect to find "Nightmare Before Christmas" gear. "Supernatural" and Miyazaki items are known to populate the store, too. And I think they still sell band t-shirts here, not that I would know since I gravitate right to the Pop! figures at the back of the store...I have priorities. The only problem I've ever had at this store was I once ordered a few things online with the intention of keeping the one that fit best and returning the others. I do this with other stores all the time because there's no guarantee that something you want online will be in the store when you go there. When I came to return the items here, though, the staff really tried to push me into exchanging the items for something else. I shouldn't have to tell someone I want to return an item five times. So I wasn't impressed with the attitude I got that day. I highly recommend shopping here - if not for yourself, for someone who loves any of the things I mentioned in my review. An amazing place! i got a pansexual pin from here and it was amazing. The only bad thing is its kinda pricey, and the jewlery's paint (or something) is kinda bad. This store in general has really gone down hill in the last couple years as a company. I use to like this store a lot but anymore it's just always the same and they never have any super good deals to bring in high volume traffic. I stopped in here for the holidays to get some gages for a gift for someone cause I didn't wanna order off of eBay. I was satisfied with it but the staff here are not helpful. I enjoy checking out the band tees but a lot of it is outdated designs and the selection is very minimal compared to what they use to have years ago. I can't say I won't be returning cause I enjoy stopping in here every once in a little while but I definitely won't be going out of my way to make it a mission to stop here. read more

I know I'm supposed to hate Hot-Topic since it's a "scene" sort of place where high school suburban goths and nu-metallers get their gear and whatnot, but they carry all sorts of pop culture memorabilia here including Walter White bobbleheads, vintage Marvel Comics t-shirts, and such. It's also the biggest Hot Topic I've seen to date with walls lined with t-shirts featuring everyone from Slipknot to Tupac. So, there was a bit for me to gawk at as Kay insisted we come by so she could look at Monroe piercings. It appears that Hot Topic is usurping Spencer's (word has it that teenage shoplifters chased them out of South Hills Village) , and considering HT's lack of more risque items (no sex toys here), it's easy to see why. This South Hills Village locale even carries vinyl records, even if it seems weird that a (not half-bad) band like Avenged Sevenfold would be offering up vinyl versions of their albums. I didn't think that set was into the old formats like fans of black metal are. Hot Topic is what happens when places like Eide's and Slacker go corporate and blunt their edge. I mean... I know the whole idea of hot topics is to promote teen angst, but holly hell the workers here are the rudest people I've ever encountered in a retail setting... After she went through her whole up sale ordeal (that I'm sure is part of her job.. I've worked in retail) I politely declined. She seemed a little annoyed...Maybe she was having a bad day so I continued being overly nice to her and thanked her for checking my ID and some how I got on the subject of the salon I work at and how we check IDs as well... She then went off on a tangent on how her friend that works at super cuts has the same training as me... I wanted to be like "okay chick, I don't know what you think I was saying but your acting bat shit crazy over me just telling me where I work" but I just nodded and smiled, grabbed my stuff and left.
