Room was clean, big with a beautiful bathroom. The nerd in me was impressed by the computer panel which controls the elevator system. There are 4 elevators for use. On each floor outside the elevators is a touch screen computer panel in which you select where you need to go - floor number or restaurant name. The computer figures out the elevator which can take you to your destination fastest and displays the number on the screen. After the display is shown the elevator arrives within seconds. The floor number is pre-selected when you step in. You cannot select the floor from inside the elevator. This was a very efficient system and I wish all hotels adopt it. They also serve delicious breakfast and the spread is huge. Every single thing that I tried on the breakfast was of excellent quality. The servers even come to your table and ask you if they can bring you coffee or juice. The empty plates are immediately removed and the tables cleaned. L1 metro line starts from the 'Hospital de Bellvitge' stop which is opposite to Hotel Hesperia. That gives you the advantage of pick your seat on the metro journey. If you are taking the metro to/from the airport, you'll have to change from L1 to L9 at Torrassa station. Airport is about 10 minutes away by taxi, so you might not want to go the metro route. By metro, hotel is about 30 minutes to beach or La Rambla street and 1 hour to Parc Guell. So it's definitely not in the center where you can walk to the happening places.

They try to give off that sexy, mysterious vibe, but as soon as you step into the room, the green ceiling, cheap fixtures and damask wallpaper give it away. The hotel is reasonably "affordable" for its location (near the Gothic Quarter and La Barceloneta), but definitely in a sketchy area. I highly advise walking outside the hotel at night, as you'll find the rough crowds your parents warned you about. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk, and to get there, you have to cut through some of the sketchiest alleys. I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to a room with a view, a bottle of mini wine & an extra bottle of water. My amenities weren't so great from the moment I opened the door. Since my room was pretty high up, the room was stifling & those views were blocked by a stainless steel mesh. FYI: your room requires a key card at all times if you're trying to use electricity, which includes air conditioning. The shower initially felt luxurious--spacious with a giant waterfall head and solid water pressure--followed by lush bath towels, but that impression faded once I noticed the pockets of mold and grime in the corners. Sleeping was also a challenge since walls are thin and anytime the guests next to me entered their room, it sounded like someone was entering mine, which kept me paranoid and on high alert. Rooftop: the rooftop not only offers panoramic views of Barcelona, but also has a bar and pool, though hard to even suggest the pool is an amenity since it's more so for aesthetic than functionality. On the roof, it's not an open floor plan, so you'll have to walk around the building to get a full 360 view. For those who are height deficient such as myself: prepare for obstructed views because of the high railings (great for safety, but not so much for those under 5'3).

Room cleanliness was really good everyday. Generally very clean everywhere. The breakfast buffet is excellent and as good as the other grand hyatts. If you get the order off the à la carte menu perk, the Benedict with smoked salmon is really good and the waffle is surprisingly good. Their mixed veggie and fruit juices are amazing. For dinner at the restaurant: I loved their version of patatas bravas, very crispy and hot inside, the mushroom croquettes were good but the filling was not super hot (maybe frozen originally?). Odd things: They have a smart elevator system but slow and pretty sure only two of the four worked. The room they put us in even though explorist was right by the elevator and had super bad soundproofing so everything everyone said coming back late from a party at 2 or 4 or whatever could be heard. Hair dryer didn't work. I almost got trapped in the service elevator that I only realized was service elevator was it was too late, it opened for me when I used my card but then wouldn't move or open the door. Thankfully lobby button worked. Water in the lobby was empty most of the time. Most of the servers at the restaurant/breakfast were super professional and nice except for one who was really awkward/tired, did a bunch of odd things, took our order, forgot what we ordered and then asked us about it and still put in the wrong order. Forgot our fruit drinks, didn't bother to ask me what coffee I wanted after giving the other person in my party their coffee, was really brusque in taking away the dishes.. Pool area is nice in morning but after midday they begin to play loud party music... Kind of far from city center.

It's convenient if you need a quick bite, but you might want to explore other options nearby. One big plus is the location. It's right next to the main train station, making metro travel super easy. I'd stay there again for a short stay, but probably not for an extended visit. Overall, it's convenient but fairly simple in terms of amenities.

The sink and counter were bigger than we're used to and great to spread out on. The main bedroom was awesome - it had a king size bed, lots of outlets, a solid TV, a Nespresso machine and a lovely mini bar. The second room had a king sized hideaway bed and a small seating area. There was plenty of room for all of us to spread out and overall it was incredibly comfortable. The workout facility downstairs is small, with a treadmill, bike and small weight rack. It's not bad for a quick run. As was said earlier, the location is great. There's a nice park next door and a lovely square with about a dozen restaurants about 2 blocks behind the hotels. It made for a perfect spot to grab dinner a couple nights in a row. We also jumped on a tourist trap double decker bus that stopped right outside the hotel at the train station. It made it really easy to get around. There were also a ton of small bakeries and restaurants within walking distance. It made grabbing breakfast and lunch super easy. We really enjoyed this hotel. It was perfect for our quick trip and made both arrival and departure incredibly easy. Absolutely worth staying here!

This is the good about it. The bad was a shower that leaked water out the door, a room cleaned half heartedly with the last guest's clothing left in the shower, and a bottle of water they partially drank opened. A broken air conditioning that actually happened for all guests, and this morning, a leaking ceiling in the bathroom no less! Good room but bad bones in the building need to be addressed.

The Not as Good We reserved both a superior and classic room but couldn't tell the difference for an additional 130 euros. The front desk said the superior had "more light." Potentially but not sure that was described as difference for what we paid. The rooms lack power outlets. Nothing by bedside. USB by desk but no USB-C or Int'l plugs. We had phones plugged in behind chairs, tea kettle sitting on floor, laptop in bathroom... The subway is underneath the hotel and even though we're on the 4th floor it was loud with lots of vibration. We had Do Not Disturb on for our entire trip but staff entered regardless and made up room. Not a big deal but surprised us and meant we had to put our belongings away every time we left not knowing who would enter when. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we would come back but many hotels we passed by looked like good options as well.

You have supermarkets / convenience stores / restaurants / bars / cafés / laundrymat, all around the hotel. We booked a taxi the day of the check-out, the cab was waiting for us on time.
