Others, though, were intimidating because when you walk into the hotel they just stare at you stone-faced and don't greet you or anything. When I checked out and asked for a taxi to be called the woman behind the reception desk actually stepped back as if I had a plague (and I was speaking in Spanish so it couldn't be a communication problem). The guy who was there had to come from behind her to help me.

Do not stay here if you're actually hoping to see the city of Bilbao as it's quite far from the city. It's an airport hotel and it does its job well. The rooms are clean, spacious and quiet. There is a shuttle that brings you to and from the airport and a free breakfast. Dining options are lacklustre. Since you're in a remote location you're limited to one restaurant next to the hotel which isn't terrible but it isn't excellent either. It certainly doesn't come close to some of the best food I had while in Spain. It's that or vending machine food.
