Loved staying here, and would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat…read more
Room- excellent: spacious, very clean, supper comfortable beds, excellent bathroom (with a bathtub new and gleaming you actually can take a bath...) modern-trandy, well appointed furnishing and fixtures. Room was quiet and fresh.-10.
Staff- the best! helpful (none of those sneering, clueless, cold employees you can find in other establishments in the world). From Juliette to Roberta to Theophile, they were all keenly interested in assisting, welcoming and wereall helpful. They were quick and knowledgeable and are a true assets to this excellent hotel. Even when I had to occasion to ask for a plate and silverware, while not actually dining there, the gentleman in charge was as gracious as helpful (even with my not so consistent French ;-) to assist me and quickly, added to that a tip on the french vocabulary, never a hint of snootiness.
These are the details that are a tell tell sign of how staff views their guests from top management to bottom.
Location- Because it is not located smacked in the touristic "madness," we love it, but more than that, it's close to the the fantastic Bois du Boulogne. It is in the 15th arrondissement, which is definitely a part of Paris, rather than a far away, charmless outskirt. It is a much calmer, authentic, and cleaner area of the city's edge. Additionally, there are multiple means of public transport located nearby. For example, there is a bus right in front of the hotel that takes you directly to Tour Eiffel, and a metro that is a block or so away that connects you to other parts, including the left bank, of course. This is also a location that if you want to get away from the noise and hype of the center, you can do so easily. I would recommend this hotel, also because of it's location. True, I am familiar with Paris, and it helps, but I cannot think why those who aren't would not enjoy the rather convient bus and metro, so close by. There are tons of shops, supermarkets and even pretty good restaurants 2-3 blocks away on a street called Boulevard Jean Jaures, where we also got our metro, just ask the desk.
Breakfast- Didn't try it (was not part of my room rate). Instead, started with an excellent croissant at the corner trendy bakery called "Petit Bac" on the same side of the hotel, same block, colored in Pink. Attitude here was not friendly, but the croissant was superior. Took it to the garden in the front-quintessentially charming, and great for kids if you have, but also if your don't ;-).
**For better baguettes and much friendlier attitude we went to the bakery on the right side of the hotel entrance, same side, called "Marcel B." they also have coffee etc.
** There is a medium size supermarket on the other side of the street, for other food and drinks, very convenient and economical.
Not all Marriott are the same and we were even more surprised to see that the quintessential, solid, and celebrated elements of this hotel chain were carried out even in a city known for tiny hotel rooms and uncomfortable bed.... elevated still by a truly elegant staff.
