It's been around in the same family since the 60's and it's a small but beautiful hotel. There are some 14-16 rooms and a restaurant. We had booked for a long weekend package which includes breakfast, two normal dinners and a gourmet dinner. The rooms are fabulous and spacious and well appointed. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Mr and Mrs Maier run the place and Johanna is the head chef at the restaurant. She used to have two Michelin starts and 19 Gault Millau points and was at one time the highest rated female chef in Austria. I believe they have given all that up now and run and nice luxurious place with decent food. Breakfasts were very well done and you basically chose from a menu and things arrived one by one. Dinner was a daily affair and whatever was available in the market or at the hotel. Food was generally good and I enjoyed most of it. Some of it was very bland and the vegetarian choices lacked some creativity. I would come here again. It's cosy, beautiful and has great friendly service. A highlight in Filzmoos. You can just book to come and stay one night or book packages which include dinner and so on. You can also just come here for dinner if you so choose. The cosy farmer's cottage built right into the lobby gives a special atmosphere. The rooms we got are really small but - again - nicely furnished (old wood used as decoration) and well maintained. But too small for 5*. Basic WLAN is free - more speed is costly. I cannot comment on the restaurant's quality yet - dinner will be served later. One thing is really unacceptable: no ventilation on the toilet. €240 per room incl. breakfast and dinner is "steep" ... I will comment on the restaurant separately.

The food was absolutely delicious, the best we had during our holiday. The service was very friendly and we were made to feel at home the moment we entered the restaurant. We are planning to return to Wagrain in winter and will definitely be visiting the Grafenwirt again. We know the cook will be the same because he is also the owner!

Their English is immaculate! They went out of their way to help us with trains; shopping; restaurants and sightseeing . . . even going so far as to research schedules and locales, and print up documentation. We really can't say enough about them! The restaurant and staff are fabulous, too. My husband loved the breakfast buffet, and we had dinner there twice. I had a caprese-style salad, and it was served with freshly baked gluten-free bread! My steak and potatoes were beautiful and full of flavor; my husband had asparagus soup and the beef skillet with spaetzle, and said both were delicious. All the way around, it was a wonderful experience, and we would go back in a second!

We overlooked a pit, filled with gravel and solar panels. We had a hard time changing rooms because they said they were booked but finally we were switched to a front, street-facing room with a balcony. The rooms are dark (dark wood, inadequate lighting...could NOT read in bed at night!) so that was a plus for us. No street noise in front at night..dead end street. Always request a front facing room! We also asked for more pillows (those were the FLATTEST pillows we ever saw!) and a hot pot to boil water for tea/instant coffee in the morning..unless you ask, you won't get either. Expensive for the hotel's internet usage. We opted to find other venues for Wifi.......McDonalds (always busy!!), Cavalli restaurant next door, and the Irish pub in town within walking distance to the Hotel. The workout room was good and there is a large indoor pool and a hot and cold spa. The Hotel's pizza restaurant was just so-so but we found a terrific restaurant right next door...CAVALLI and ate there 4 times during our week's stay! Great food and wait staff! All that being said, we won't stay at this hotel during our next Isn to St. Johann.
