Loved this place. I want to join their family and stay there permanently. Simply the most lovely friendly people you could ever meet.
Let me tell you how this trip started. We arrive. We had booked directly with them, so I had chatted on the phone with them prior to arriving.
Them: Welcome! We've been waiting for you!
Us: Wow, great to meet you we are excited.
Them: We had some extra rooms available, so we upgraded your room to a view of the Matterhorn.
Us: Wow. I mean wow...thank you.
Great start. Little did we know that was just the beginning...
Travelers Note: Book directly through them. If you are getting a better rate on a website for their hotel...maybe call them directly. They speak English. It will be worth it to stay in this location, even if you have to pay a slight premium, but regardless, don't find a reason to pass this place up.
The hotel is very close to the lift. (walkable) Close to amazing restaurants (see my review of Restaurant Pizzeria Roma). Close to probably them most popular pub in town, Papperla Pub. Live music there every night. People gather at Papperla after their killer day on the mountains. (And literally it's across the street)
Francis & Josephine (the owners) always checked in on us to see if we needed anything. And I'm talking ANYTHING...do you need us to remove the refrigerator so you have more room? Wow...that would be awesome. Poof. Done. Would you like a coffee pot in you room...poof...coffee pot. How about an iPad to surf them web while you are here...got that too.
We stayed in Iglu-Dorf (another review for you to check out) one night to test how adventurous we could be, and asked Francis where we could buy head lamps. Oh no...no...I have some here, just use those. He told us it was going to be cold up there (which is a total understatement) it ended up being -25. When we returned the next morning he and his wife were both excited to hear about our trip and mentioned they had thought about us in the cold the night before and worried about our condition.
Everything about this hotel is perfect. The location, the staff, the rooms, the unbelievable food. They have a chef that prepares meals daily. Phenomenal meals.
When we left, it was an early trek to the train (5am), they made us sandwiches for our journey.
What other place have you ever been that makes you a meal for the road...when you are leaving...unprovoked. Seriously. You will love this place, you will love the view of the Matterhorn, you will love the price, you will love the location and you will love these people. read more
