In the town of Rho, there hasn't been much to talk about regarding food, but coming to Dodicivolte…read morewas a wonderful find. We were visiting colleagues in this industrial / warehouse setting of an area and decided to come here for lunch. 1. Ambiance - Complete restored and very contemporary. 2. Menu - While everyone had some kind of salad for a starter, I did not order but was intrigue with their selection of Anti-pasta, Veal, and Prosciutto. for Pasta, they have spaghetti with prawns, and Risotto and Lasagna. What drew me to the menu was the main courses. I narrowed down my decision to the Boiled Beef (Capello di prete di manzo) or the Veal Tripes (Trippa di Vitello). Since I had beef the night before, i decided to try the Veal Tripe as it was a local speciality. It was very, very good. The tripe was tender and cut into small pieces with white beans. A really nutritious meal and very tasty. The Boiled beef, or the Priest's Cap of beef is the shoulder muscle part that is great for putting in stews. Next time I come to this place, I am ordering this as it sounds wonderful. 3. More on the menu ... They also have rish, calamari, tuna and gulash on their menu as main courses. After lunch, we had a wonderful and satisfying espresso. This place was great and I cannot wait to have more meetings in Milan that cause me to drive way out here in the middle of this industrial town! The service was fantastic, the people very friendly, professional and proud of their restaurant. They have menu in both english and in Italian since the fairgrounds are nearby. GK says, when in Rho, check out Dodicivolte!

Wow, Il Tempio d'Oro is missing an English review. How comes?…read more This is one of the "secret" places of the Milanese "Aperitivo" (happy hour), the pre-dinner drink which comes with a buffet dinner of its own :-) The offering of Il Tempio d'Oro during their happy hour is quite good and extensive, can happily substitute dinner, and the drinks and beers are all good and not terribly expensive. Outside buffet hours, the menu is still very good, but not that cheap. The place is very informal/"alternative" style, and can accomodate groups, maybe not extremely large ones. Pets are welcome :-)

We stopped in here on a Saturday night for the infamous "apertivo."…read more This is a no frills place, with lots of tables crammed too close together. I felt like we were packed in like sardines - it was impossible to get to our table or for the servers to get through. The service was also very slow. It was fairly busy because of the apertivo hours, but there were at least 4 servers, and considering the size of the place, it shouldn't have taken as long as it did for service. We had to flag someone down to order because nobody ever came to help us. Anyhow, this is definitely a great spot for apertivo. If you aren't sure what that is - it's like happy hour, except you get food along with your drink purchase. Prices were reasonable - I had the largest Hoegaarden I've ever seen and it was only 6 euros. They set up a pretty sizeable buffet, which you are free to enjoy as many times as you'd like. The food was pretty good and it was a decent selection. If you are in the area, it's definitely worth checking out!

Absolutely pleased with my 3-night stay at the Poli Hotel…read more First off, let me address the 'location' point. While it is located outside of the city, and not in a typical commercial area, it worked for me as I had a rental car. A quick 15 minute drive, I got to the Molindo Dorindo metro station with ample and safe parking, from there, I was able to easily get into Milan on an inexpensive metro day pass. It took about 10 minutes on the metro to get to the Cardona FN station, and another 5 minutes to Duomo. Additionally, it is only a 30-45 min drive (dependent on traffic) to Como. In Como, there is a free car port at the start of the ferry line- I parked my rental and used the ferry to visit around the lake including Bellagio. Then, let's talk about why a semi-hotel snob like me would give Poli 5 stars. No better substantiation than the VALUE!!! The staff (front desk, bar tender, wait staff at the restaurant, and housekeeping) is absolutely amazing! The restaurant and front desk staff can communicate well in English, and they showed such genuine hospitality. Beyond the professionalism, they demonstrated such warmth and helpfulness. Let me give you an example- as we were leaving for our day trip, I asked to buy a large bottle water from the bar for the road- the staff realized my plan and where I was going, and she thoroughly explained to me the shops that I would be passing by down the street, and recommended that I should stop at the shops to get the water and snacks as I would pay so much less. She cares!!! Then, let's talk about the awesome breakfast that is included in every reservation. 7am to 10 am- open breakfast buffet with fresh squeezed OJ, made to order coffee beverages, omelet station, various freshly baked goods, a charcuterie selection, and even a chocolate fountain. All this goodness is served in their homey, brightly lit and spacious restaurant, Talk about value!!! Of course the most important value that should be delivered by a hotel is a good night's sleep. I got it here! The room is very clean and comfy. The bed is firm just the way I like it, the shower does leak a bit of water through the glass divider, but hey, I don't need to clean it up. The temperature control in the room is also really good... I slept so well all three nights! This place is almost like a big well run family inn with the extra caring touch that you don't usually find in a major chain. The rates are also very reasonable - granted, it is not exactly a fair comparison for me to mention that the total cost for my 3 night stay was the same as the cost of 1 night I spent in Switzerland in an equivalent location just the week before. I highly recommend Poli to anyone visiting Milan who's got ground transportation figured out!
