This review is for the restaurant at The Diplomat, though we stayed at the hotel which was a 5 star experience as well. My buddy and I decided on this restaurant for my birthday brunch and I couldn't have been happier. They had a lot of traditional favorites, combined with a fusion twist on things. We started off with a tuna sashimi dish for an appetizer and it was delicious. For a main, I had the eggs royal, which was pretty much Eggs Benedict with lox, which was brilliant. The restaurant itself was gorgeous with a beautiful view of the water, and the service was exceptional! I highly recommend this place if you're in Stockholm.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful city! The location is perfect with a beautiful view of the water! Rooms are spacious and clean! Beds are cozy and decor is exactly what I would expect (and love) in Sweden! Elevator was a tad of an inconvenience (if someone doesn't close the metal door all the way after riding, the elevator gets stuck on that floor) but definitely wasn't a huge deal. We were on the 6th floor and occasionally had to walk up a few floors to get the elevator that someone hadn't closed right. But we just considered that extra exercise for the day (we can all use that!!). Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as well! Only other minor issue we had was with the room being a tad warm for our liking. We ended up sleeping with the window open which was a bit disruptive in the morning when the town started waking up. But overall the traffic in this area is minimal and it's just a very peaceful place! Would love to spend more time here!! **We also ate/drank at the bar and had a great experience there too! Beer was delicious and so was the food!

I came in with my non-Asian coworker and he was helped at the desk while I waited right behind him. There were 3 employees at the front desk. An Italian family came up after me and they were waved over to be helped. I thought maybe the staff just didn't see me but then it happened again. Another European lady walks up and is waved over to be helped. I stepped up and asked why everyone is cutting me off in line and that's when the front desk said "oh sorry about that." After 18 hours of travel, this was a horrible way to start the week. I had a few coworkers staying at the hobo across the street and everytime I walked in to meet up with them, I was greeted by staff. I stayed there last year as well and didn't experience anything discriminatory. I assumed the Downtown Camper would be better since they have a few more amenities in the room such an iron and kettle but this was not worth it. Being treated like you are invisible ruins the entire experience. On top of that, it makes me look at Sweden in a different light. Right outside the hotel there was a group of men that proceeded to yell things like "ni hao Ching Chang Chong!" I expected more from a place/staff that is supposed to be hospitable and welcoming. While we cannot control what happens outside of the hotel, it would have been nice to feel safer in your hotel and free from judgement just because we don't look the same.

They have a bar, workout room, spa area, dining area, this cool neat thing you can lounge in, etc. kind of had a fancy hostel feel, except super expensive. Things to watch out for: adding breakfast with your room is not cheap, 48 USD is what we were told. Rooms are super hot and you don't have access to air and aren't able to turn the heat below around 70 Fahrenheit (and it's only fall, not winter), bar staff wasn't very friendly, we didn't ask for cleaning, specifically said we didn't want it, and someone still walked into our room the first day, terrace tables shown in the ads for the hotel are part of the spa and you can't access them if you don't want to pay, should be clear before hand. We had a good stay here, would say the biggest thing was the room heat issue and we'd wake up sweating each night and have trouble getting back to sleep. But hotel has no major issues, would just expect a little bit more in these areas for the price!

Also, it was easy to catch an Uber from here (Uber here in Europe is awesome - picked up by an Audi or a Mercedes Bens lol). We didn't spend much time in the hotel, just a place to sleep. We came a little earlier than check-in but we were still able to get to our room. Lucky we were able to get a room with a window! Complimentary breakfast was plentiful and delicious! I came up with a list of Swedish foods that I wanted to try and most were present there at the breakfast spread. Especially the meatballs! We were only in Sweden for one day so this came to be very helpful. We booked through United and for one night it was ~$115. We had a really restful sleep and were not bothered by any noise from other rooms. Our only downside was that we did feel very cold at night and that we couldn't regulate the heat.

Had few pre arrival emails and communication that were helpful. More emails during my 2 night stay in early October. Front desk staff and all personnel were friendly, cheerful and competent. Location was quite convenient too. Common areas and bar/restaurant are also nice and tasteful. Had drink and appetizers in the bar, and enjoyed it. So, all in all, pleasant boutique hotel. Now to few negatives. No free breakfast as Platinum Marriott Bonvoy amenity, only small discount. The rate was slightly high, but both of those thins are rather minor. The main issue here is a room itself. I didn't care much for decor, bit it is subjective of course. I couldn't get Platinum upgrade and ended up in their standard double room. It was simply too small even for "one of me", and not too well designed to move around. Felt a bit claustrophobic. Please don't tell me that I should expect very small rooms all over large European metropolis, it is simply not true. I travel enough on business and pleasure to know, and stay in many European cities. It was unusually small, that is all. Still, would recommend Miss Clara. If you are sensitive to a room size, pay up for a larger room then, I guess...)))

Few snacks and beverages, and consistently ran out of coffee (Nespresso pods) everyday that we were there. The other guests, especially business travelers, were not happy with this. In addition, to get your 2 complimentary drinks each night, you had to order at the bar, but they would not serve you there -- instead you had to wait back in the lounge. Just an odd setup. Clearly, no expense was spared in the restoration of the building -- every piece of furniture or light was either designer or custom, and the ample accessories/books throughout the hotel were tasteful and included book one would actually want to read. While the gym was sleek but a little bare, we loved the sauna/cold shower room. We did many 2 and 3 Michelin star meals during our week in Europe and our dinner at Ett Hem was one of the highlights of the trip. We could see why almost everyone who stays at the hotel also dines there. The ambiance in the courtyard was terrific. Dishes looked straightforward and were made with fresh, local ingredients, but were powerful and sophisticated in flavors. The only issue real issue we encountered was the AC in our room. It was extremely hot at night, so we had trouble sleeping. My sense is that there was probably a problem with the unit in our room as the public areas did not seem to have the same problem. As we were only staying one night, we didn't bring this up, but it's something I would keep in mind were we to come back during the warmer months of the year.

I had to make my 100th Yelp Review special and there is no better review than Ett hem. Ett hem…read more(Swedish for "a home," which leads to some hilarious misunderstandings if Stockholmers ask where you're staying) is the best hospitality experience I've had and likely ever will ever have. From the moment I walked up to the door 3,295 miles away from my home and was greeted with "Welcome to your new home, Mr. B****!" I knew Ett hem was something separate and apart from any place I'd ever stayed before. Prior to your arrival, staff members coordinate certain preferences with you via email including your travel to and from the airport and dinner reservations, both at their in-house kitchen and other fine-dining establishments throughout Stockholm over the course of your stay. Kim, Johan, Nick, and everyone else who assisted with the pre-planning stages of our trip were fantastic (and they even stoically tolerated my email frustration/venting at our flight delays) and thoughtfully inquired as to what other plans or suggestions they may make for us. Once you arrive, all your worries are forgotten. Approach the large brick and wooden gate on No. 2 Skoldungagatan and press the large, worn brass-looking button. The gate will click, and you step into the leafy garden of your new home for (hopefully) the duration of your visit. Unfortunately, thanks to Norwegian Airlines' flight delays (apparently the Spirit Airlines of Europe, which is unfair to Spirit Airlines), we arrived very late in the evening and in the middle of Ett Hem's dinner service. Nonetheless, we were able to have some munchies (olives, chips, and the like) and wine, which assisted the jet-lag in lulling me to sleep. The design aesthetic is immaculate from the common spaces to each individual room. The junior suite (allegedly the only private balcony available presently) was absolutely gorgeous, with a view of Engelbrektskyrkan off the balcony, overlooking a small park, with large, opening windows letting in a fresh breeze. The neighborhood is very quiet and consists mostly of foreign embassies. The T-bana stop (Tekniska hogskolan) is very close giving you near instant access to all of Stockholm. Each morning, I suggest taking your breakfast in the glass house (glashuset), where the staff will prepare a yogurt, fruit, and granola situation along with breads, meats and cheeses. You can also order eggs any style (and likely anything else you wanted, though I always had large meal plans following breakfast) and down an unlimited amount of coffee. Glashuset is a great way to start the day, bright and leafy with Ulf Lundrell playing in the background. The lunch I had at Ett hem was equally delightful, as the chef whipped up a fantastic croque monsieur at my request. Dinner was unique and intimate, as you usually will be joining other guests at the hotel. We dined in the actual kitchen at the longer, shared table, though there are several dining areas throughout the hotel, including out in the garden, glashuset, and the living room. The meal itself was extraordinary, and deserving of its own separate review, especially considering its preparation in a smaller kitchen. Smoked pork, scallops, venison(?), and an irresistible plum and caramel pie served as dinner for one night, but every night we returned to the hotel there was another smorgasbord (pun, not literal translation, intended) of delicious looking food. Further, should you get a craving in the middle of the day and want something from the kitchen, just go down and grab it, or head to the "honesty bar" and pour yourself a glass of the rotating awesome wine collection (thanks Niklas)! My only critical observation is that there is no way for me to enter (once you've checked in) unless you buzz someone inside who lets you in. This obviously has a security and privacy benefit, but I don't have to buzz into my own home. This interaction cuts against the ethos of Ett hem and has stuck with me since the visit. I don't suggest booking Ett hem if you're looking for a substantial hotel gym, but the sauna/spa area looks very nice, and I took advantage of the Swedish message in Sweden (because obviously) with Mia, the skilled in-house massage therapist. I was also informed of expansion plans to a gorgeous building in a similar architectural style next door, so your gym/spa opportunities may broaden in the future. Not to downplay these amenities, but I highly suggest a food and drink focus over the spa. Wander around; enjoy the design; enjoy the garden; have some wine; snack on a piece of plum pie; sit in the garden; look out from the balcony; make Ett hem your home in the way it is supposed to be (and the way they want you to). Ask the staff for recommendations around Stockholm (that's how I discovered Aloe; see that Yelp review for more). And most importantly, savor the time you're spending here; an experience as exquisite and magical as Ett hem doesn't last forever.

I used it twice, just wash and dry, nothing fancy, maybe 1/2 washer full. IT COST NEARLY US $189. I looked for a self-service laundromat somewhere nearby but couldn't find one. Bring stuff you can wash out in the sink! The pros: -Excellent location; across the street from Central Station and Arlanda Express, you can access the T-bana from the hotel lobby, many buses and trams stop within a few minutes of walking, many restaurants, department stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, a pharmacy, and other shops -Close enough to walk to many tourist spots -Quiet in rooms; I barely heard anything from other rooms, the hallway, or outside -Comfortable beds - not too hard or soft -Tasty breakfast; not a huge selection, but plenty for all types of diets -Sun deck area with great views, lots of seating, and even some exercise equipment -Rooms with and without windows (the latter are handy during the midnight sun) -Great staff -Good quality toiletries (hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, bath soap) -Electric kettle in room The cons: -No refrigerators in rooms, a big minus for me -No washers and dryers, and no self-service laundromat anywhere near. Again, DO NOT USE THE LAUNDRY SERVICE THEY PROVIDE -During most of the days I was there, the breakfast space was inadequate for the number of people. On weekends, the hours are extended, so it's not often an issue. But on weekdays, when service ends at 9:30 am, you can barely move, let alone find a seat. Today was impossible; I ended up eating my formerly hot breakfast in my room -No eating or drinking on the sun deck area, which I understand but is also a bummer -Not many TV channels -Some maintenance issues in the room, including a drape that doesn't close all the way, a burnt-out bathroom light that makes putting on makeup difficult, and a HVAC system that only blows cool or cold air, no matter how much I adjust it -Not enough maintenance staff to fix these things quickly -Water leaks onto the bathroom floor at the bottom of the shower; it's a design flaw As I mentioned, the pros do outweigh the cons, which are mostly minor issues. I would definitely stay here again.
