Our first trip to Brugge, but after exploring the city for 4 days - I can't imagine staying anywhere else. This hotel has many of the pros of a bed and breakfast, but few of the cons. It's small (8 rooms, I think?) but the rooms are private and a private bathroom is in the room. Our room was huge, but I think we just got lucky (room #5). The breakfast spread served every morning is wonderful. Tons of fresh food and pastries - and it's always a nice treat to wake up to the smell of bacon cooking. It felt very secure and had a nice safe in the room.
This hotel is located on the edge of the park...which is wonderfully quiet. You can be in the city around the swarm of tourists and attractions in minutes, and then escape back to your little quiet oasis at Egmonds. That said, all of the patrons were very quiet and subdued (which I appreciated). Voices were hushed, steps were taken quietly, etc. If you're looking for a boisterous place - look elsewhere. It's also a very easy walk to and from the train station, so there's an added bonus of avoiding any confusing transfer or costly taxi if you're arriving in Brugge by train.
The one slight negative was that our bathroom was a little odd. It looked to have been retrofitted into the gorgeous room...and was a solid fiberglass "pod". It was functional, so I have no real complaints, but it seemed a little out of place and the toilet flow was very, very low.
I remember reading reviews that the staff was a bit cold. I disagree. The staff seemed very stable and tight-knit (I think I saw the same young man and middle-aged woman every day, and they seemed to be taking care of everything!) They were softly spoken and unobtrusive, but every small request or question I had was immediately attended to. I highly recommend the hotel. read more
