I'm really torn writing this review…read more The Arco Guest Houses are one of the best kept secrets in Lake Garda (Gardasee) area and their English moniker doesn't do them justice. I'm risking letting the proverbial cat out of the bag. These are two stately houses that have been converted to self-catering vacation apartments. Mediaeval marble and limestone courtyard and exterior meets modern Italian interior design in the vein of Alessi, Zanussi and Cassina. The property is immaculate and is nestled in an ancient neighborhood on a hill top a few miles from the north end of the Lake and a short walk through the olive groves to downtown Arco. I've uploaded pictures of the views from our balcony. Guests are mostly German families and outdoor enthusiasts. Hans Martin the host is warm, welcoming and efficient. He's a wealth of local knowledge, from restaurants to mountain trails to the latest night-spots and beach weather. In Arco you have the lake and the mountains at your fingertips and yet none of the tourism-crush like the towns directly on the Garda shore. Downtown Arco has everything you need for your Garda vacation, restaurants, cafes, bars, markets, bike & climbing shops, you name it. Nestled against the mountains, Arco is also an ideal base for hiking, climbing and mountain biking in the vast Trentino backcountry. I can highly recommend staying at the Guest Houses in Arco your next trip to Lake Garda area.

They keep this place immaculate and stocked with breakfast goodies. We couldn't get enough of the Italian style moka pot that we just had to purchase and bring home. Coffee never tasted so divine! Location is ideal as La Rotonda and Al Nani are in walking distance, as is Monte Berico. Running path out back is a perfect access point to so many charming points of interest. Surrounding neighborhood has a great market with amazing cheeses and cured meats (I miss my speck!). Also a couple of bars, pastry shop and a spaghettaria just a hop away. Perfect spot for day trips and a place to call home while exploring. UNESCO part is a 20 minute walk away and extremely simple to navigate. Rooms have their separate, private baths and shares a common kitchen area as an apartment. Ours had a great terrace we spent a lot of time having breakfast, or afternoon wine and cheese. Looking forward to returning to Vicenza and using this again as a launch point to more of northern Italy. Applausi per la vita!

They even have a service for travel to and from train / airport. I can't say enough about our amazing stay. This is a great home base if you are considering travel to Venice, Verona, Florence and Pisa.

My wife and I suffered from a tire explosion on the highway (without a spare!) while en route to Venice for her 30th birthday. Due to some complications with the rental agency, we were stranded without a place to go. We thought our Italy trip was ruined. Everything changed when we found this place. Christian, the late night front desk man, spoke fluent English and made us feel at ease. He booked us the last room available, poured us a glass of wine and welcomed us to our room. Our eyes lit up as we walked through the immaculate hotel with patios, gardens, and the pleasant sound of birds chirping. This happened just before midnight and I could not have felt more welcome. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was spacious and the bathrooms came equipped with a shower and tub. The wifi is super fast and the breakfast is AMAZING and hands down the best and most options of any hotel breakfast I've ever had. All included! Luckily for us the rental agency picked up the tab but knowing what we know now-- I would not hesitate for a second to book a room here. We stayed in #54 which I believe was a suite. Right near the train station, rooftop patio with a lake view and the friendliest staff you could possibly imagine. I love this place.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights unexpectedly. We were on our honeymoon AND it happened to be my 30th birthday. On our way to Croatia, our rental car's tire blew out. Long story short, we were stranded all day and I was getting pretty bummed that my birthday plans were going to be ruined (I was turning 30 at midnight). For some reason before we arrived at this hotel everyone we dealt with had been confusingly mean to us. By the time we arrived at Piccola Vela, I was in tears. Usually, I never stay at hotels without Yelp reviews, but I had a feeling about this place... and I'm so glad to stay my intuition was right. Piccola Vela was supposed to be booked up due to an event, but by some divine grace, one guest never showed and a room became available. Piccola Vela and its staff saved my birthday experience. This is the kind of hotel where everyone knows your name and goes out of their way to make sure you're accommodated. The breakfast was huge and the food was so delicious. They had everything you could hope for in a breakfast and more... The scrambled eggs were probably the best I've ever had, there was fresh fruit, muesli, pastries, all kinds of coffee / cappucinos / teas, a huge selection of very high-quality honey... I could seriously go on and on. They brought out nuts and crackers while we lounged by the pool and brought a cheese and olive plate when we ordered wine. The alcohol was surprisingly cheap for this caliber hotel. We never ordered dinner, but from what we saw and heard, their restaurant is also amazing. The atmosphere is also awesome. It seemed as though there were all these little nooks to hang out in everywhere you go. Last but not least, the man who helped us was probably my favorite person in Italy. If you stay here, get to know Christian. You will be glad you did. :-)

Check-in was effortless and the staff throughout were an absolute pleasure. The lobby is clean and has a nice sized lounge area. The room was nice but the bed had a lot to be desired. The pillows, too. King beds should have king pillows but stacking enough pillows up I made due. Also, as American living in Europe for just 7 months so far, I know that air conditioning is scarce in most places though I've found it available in hotels. Arriving right after Easter, the A/C in the rooms and the hotel wasn't turned on yet. I was provided a fan that seems like it's had better days. On my last 3 days, the A/C was switched on and sleeping was so much better! Breakfast was included but was nothing to celebrate. Fruits, cereals, yogurt, and sliced meats and cheeses. It's free so I'm grateful but you won't be satiated. Lastly, my trip was extended by a few days and I needed to do a bit of laundry. The hotel doesn't have laundry machines but do offer a service albeit expensive. Pros: excellent staff, free breakfast, nice room, good location Cons: A/C may or may not be on, paltry breakfast, no laundry on site. I'd totally stay again for points but if I wanted luxury I'd find somewhere else.

The hotel was modern, room comfortable and amenities great. Just remember, it meets European standards, not US so there is no alarm/clock, and European outlets (so you will need to have adapters). PRO: * Known Marriott quality, comfortable * Good breakfast available in the morning - typical European fare with cold cuts, cheese, bread, and several American style items (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages). Great Italian coffee. CON: * Gym is available, BUT it is open only from 0700-2300 (11:00pm); minimal equipment - will have to do push-ups, burpies, etc in your room * Typical European room in that there is no clock radio so ensure that you use your phone to wake up in time It is located in a semi-industrial area so it is quiet during the night. I was on the military posts during the day so do not know what is around the area. If visiting Vicenza, AC Marriott is a known quality property to stay with comfortable rooms and accommodations.

The location is perfect- right on the lake with it's own jetty and beach. The hotel has several bars and restaurants. We tried them all and both the decor and the food were absolutely the best. The complimentary breakfast buffet had the true five star selection-berries and tropical fruit, large selection of honey, cheeses, yoghurt and dozens of freshly baked pastries; not to mention the delicious coffee. The lunches and dinners were expectedly pricey but also very delicious. The room overlooked the lake and you could also see the Sirmion Castle towers. The customer service was top notch. The private parking was very convenient and they provided shuttle service into town or throughout the property. We will definitely be back.

The decor is beyond breathtaking with painstakingly created murals, authentic roman statues and gilded chairs.
