I honestly cannot think of enough good things to say about this hotel! It was my favorite place we stayed on a recent two-week European vacation touring Denmark, England and Ireland, including another hotel in Copenhagen. From the quaint, secluded entrance (which looks like it is on an alleyway but it was an actual street!) to the plant-filled, cozy courtyard to the room to the common areas, I was so impressed with this historic yet contemporary property! It was our first night in Europe, and to say we were jetlagged from our eight-hour transoceanic flight is putting it mildly. But as soon as my head hit the pillow on the comfortable bed I was off to la-la land! And the breakfasts! Oh the breakfasts! Absolute best and most elaborate and varied breakfast of the trip! I have never before or since seen such an assortment of foods and beverages, including cereals, hot foods, salads (yes, salads!), cheeses, meats, breads, pastries, you name it! And the coffee was divine! You got your own pot at your table. And the service was extremely attentive and friendly. Also they had a free happy hour from 4 to 6 with wines, beers, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages that was just divine. They even helped us find free surface parking, next to impossible in downtown Kobenhavn! They also recommended a great restaurant district only a block or two walking distance away! The staff also spoke impeccable English and were quick with a smile or to answer any questions you had. The only slight complaint was how small the guest room (and especially bathroom therein) was, and the fact that there were some stairs and a pretty tiny elevator, but only by US standards as I later learned. You have to realize these cities and many of the buildings in them are hundreds of years old! In summary, to say I'd like to return soon to the Kong Arthur Hotel is putting it mildly! read more

After disembarking from my cruise in Copenhagen, I spent the day exploring this beautiful city. I opted to stay here based on the availability and good reviews. Not to mention it was really close to Torvehallerne Square, which is around an eight-minute walk from the hotel. I arrived early, before check-in, and the reception staff offered to hold my luggage so I could explore the city. They give you a code and place it in a locked and video-monitored closet down in the basement. It was easy to do and safe for your belongings. After some exploring, I returned to the hotel around 4 PM and finally checked in. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my single room had been upgraded to a larger room for free. I was stoked to hear that and loved the room and location they gave me. The room was beautifully furnished and was very clean! The only downside is the no AC. The temperature that day was in the low 60s (60-63 degrees). This may sound nice, but it was rather toasty in my room. They had a standing fan that, unfortunately, did not rotate, but it helped somewhat. They give you very heavy-duty duvets that are better for winter weather, but thankfully, I opened some of the windows in my room, which made it more bearable to sleep at night. The staff here was so friendly and accommodating. It's very close to plenty of sights, attractions, and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again. It's a beautifully decorated hotel, with lovely rooms and an excellent location. read more

Loved the modern updated rooms and common areas. Everything feels fresh and clean. The location is very good and walkable to many sights. Nyhavn was a bit far, and one of my favorite spots. No problem , just rent one of the hotel's bikes for the day ! Handily equipped with a basket , the bikes made getting around fun and easy. Look for a deal that includes breakfast. It was great. Fresh and plentiful with all the goodies including specialty coffees. There is no air conditioning but the windows in the room opened. There is a hygge hour in the evening with a complimentary glass of beer or wine. What a nice touch. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby too including the famous tovehallerne food hall. I could not have had a better experience staying in Copenhagen. read more

got to the room after overseas flight and the showerhead was broken and the bathroom sink would not drain. as for an alternate room, but they said they could not accommodate. Took well over an hour to get maintenance to fix the problems that should've been fixed before we entered the room... despite using improved adapter, could not get US appliances to work in the room. Black items in the safe according to the instructions and then the safe would not open and it took 45 minutes for maintenance to override and open the safe so we can remove our passports and other valuables and leave. read more

I liked the Hotel Kong Arthur, but I didn't love it--primarily because at times it was sweltering inside my room, and there was no air conditioning to deal with the oppressive heat. So, our room windows were left open for several hours at a time, including when we tried to sleep. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Hotel staffers were very accommodating and helpful; the food at Michelin-starred La Rocca Ristorante on premises was outstanding; and so were the spa services at Ni'mat Massage & Spa. Our standard room was comfortable according to European standards, And, it was not difficult to hail a cab along the boulevard across from the hotel. But most of the action spots in Copenhagen were miles away, so expended cab fare quickly mounted. And, the one time Diane and I tried to venture out on foot on our own to Rosenborg Castle, we made a wrong turn, and thereby doubled the distance before we realized our error. For the restaurant and spa alone though, I would willingly stay here again when revisiting Copenhagen. But next time I would take pains to avoid coming during a record-breaking heat wave! read more

We had a wonderful stay here at hotel Kong Arthur. This is what I would call a boutique hotel in Copenhagen right out of the main central area. It's a great hotel. Staff is terrific and friendly. There is a spacious lobby with water and coffee out around the clock and staff available around the clock willing to answer questions and help out. We arrived super early from USA on a Sunday. We relaxed while the city was actually asleep. The hotel provided a space to leave our luggage since the room was not ready and we drank coffee and learned about the city. Our room was ready early and we got a nice upgrade into a cool duplex suite. We loved it. And then we found out what a great location we scored! Last day we enjoyed the breakfast. Delightful! Top notch hotel in an amazing location close to the busy Norresport train station. Great views, the breakfast was very artisinal and delicious. Room was spacious and clean. The front desk representative was very helpful and after speaking briefly with her, she had explained it was her first day...must be something in the water over there because we thought she was a seasoned employee due to her knowledge of the hotel, ability to help with anything and everything we asked and helpful tips around the area. We rented bikes from the hotel (it was cheaper than MOST other bike rentals in the area) to explore around and everyone who worked at the hotel was just the utmost in positivity, friendliness and willingness to help with any requests. My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Kong Arthur for 2 nights following a long honeymoon cruise. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and have no negative feedback that would prevent us from returning. Room - We stayed in a Double Superior room which was good and spacious! The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless clean when we arrived. I would recommend this room type for those who do not want to feel slightly cramped. Our friends got the single and said it was a bit tight, especially since we had just gotten out of our tight cruise cabin. No A/C by the way! Service - Everyone we encountered was very pleasant and smiling, always happy to help! We rented bikes from the front desk at a very reasonable price, and the young women who assisted us taught us how to work the bike locks since we don't have such locks in the US. Luggage storage upon arrival is less than ideal, as we were given unsupervised access to the bell closet to place our belongings. A dishonest person could take advantage of the opportunity, lock up your bags like we did. Spa - Easily the highlight of our stay! I booked our services months in advance and was not disappointed in the least bit. I had the most incredible Spa service EVER! It was called the Buddha Deluxe and my therapist's name was Mido! Request him if you can! The Spa facilities were quite relaxing and private. Do you dare try the ice water bath? We did! Location - IDEAL from a tourism and sightseeing perspective! Nice hotel with good services. It's quaint and just a tad worn down. We were living in a SPA-room (all though sadly we did not check the SPA at all). We had a problem with the shower curtain, it was dirty, and they switch it without any problems. The cleaning lady was a sweetheart, I asked for an extra set of sheets so that I could sleep on the couch since the beds were pretty hard. She was very concerned of my pregnant back so she got me an additional top mattress on top of mine- and extra sheets just in case! The breakfast was great except for the fact that they served bottle juice as freshly squeezed (easy to taste the difference). I think it would be better to honestly say -we ran out of oranges ;-) Anyway, breakfast had great homemade jams, Danish cheeses (yum!), smoothies, yoghurt, bread and pastrys, scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon and sausages. And yes of course - freshly brewed coffee at your table (or tea if you prefer). There was a really nice lounge area at the bar/reception as well. Good distance to city area as well. Great boutique hotel centrally located near transit (Norreport), attractions, shops, markets, and cafes/restaurants. In short, room was comfortable and clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and stay was generally good. Room: Check-in process was a breeze thanks to Simone.I had initially booked a Single room, but upgraded to a Double upon arrival (for +200 dkk or ~$30 USD per day) for the additional space. If traveling alone, a single room may be OK. Otherwise, consider upgrading since rooms (and the bathrooms) are on the smaller side. Room was very clean and equipped with coffee/tea, blanket, robes, and water. Hotel/Location: Within walking distance to the Norreport train station (which you can take to/from CPH), the hotel is conveniently located right smack in the middle of Copenhagen. The decor is medieval in theme, but not overbearing. Gym is small, but sufficient. The hotel offers free wine/beer or coffee/tea from 5 - 6 pm daily in the lobby bar area. Front desk has converters on loan for your electronics, upon request. They can also hang on to your room key (it's large) while you're out and about. There is an onsite spa that I did not get to use, but heard great things about. Service/Staff: Everyone was super nice. Huge shout-out to Niklas for being an awesome bartender. Hotel Kong Arthur is just wonderful and charming boutique hotel! Our flight into Copenhagen arrived 2 hours before check in time and the front desk was able to check us in without issue. They even upgraded us to a suite which was so nice of them to do and accommodated my husband, 4 year old son and myself with room to spare. We had a bit of an issue with getting all of our luggage and pram up the stairs to reception and as well as to our room which involved going down half a flight of steps before we could get into the lift, but we were able to manage ok. I Johnny the house manager put it best "You check in as guests, you leave as family" and honestly I found a lot of truth in that. He made wonderful recommendations for us and welcomed us every evening when we came through the door- he would sit with us and chat about the evolution of the culture in Copenhagen and his opinion about the mixture of historical buildings with the modern ones and the city's progression with the changing times. We truly felt part of his family and I would not hesitate to stay here again, should we come back to Copenhagen! The building is set off the street and overlooks the picturesque 'river' which I was told is actually the ocean- a nice serene scene unfold as you exit the hotel. It's very walkable to the sights and main shopping thruway and we had no issue getting to the main sites, however there are other hotels closer to all the action. The living room/common areas is nicely appointed with a contemporary design with a not to medieval elements and the 'cozy hour' ushered in all types of travelers! The bartender mixed up some great cocktails! It's a nice break before you head out to sightsee or in our case, a wonderful way to get a night cap and unwind before bedtime! Our room was spacious and nicely laid out, we had multiple windows in our room so it let in a substantial amount of light! I liked that the television was on a swivel so I could go to sleep along with our son and my husband could sit at the table and watch tv without disturbing us. I did find that the rooms lacked outlets to charge our electronics, however our family may have more devices than the average guest. The shower was really not so great - there was barely any hot water, I was not really a fan that if you took a shower, it would get the sink area wet as well so it made the entire bathroom a big slippery, however the soaking tub was outstanding! I really wanted to try out the spa services, but due to time constrains it was impossible to fit in. They also organize a run through Copenhagen, which I would have loved to do, as i'm sure it would have been spectacular! Absolutely love this place. Had to visit CPH for a week for work. Check-in was hassle free. Nice & clean king room. Plenty of towels, toilet paper, and other necessities. Breakfast was awesome and is basically a full on feast; a lot more than what I was expecting. The front desk is very nice and helped me get taxis, find locations on the map, etc with a smile. There are a few nice restaurant options on the property. The Italian restaurant was to die for. I ate there twice in a row and had the exact same meal. The hotel is also close to lots of touristy options; canal tour, architecture, and other site seeing. Highly recommended if you're ever in CPH. read more

Summary: Bread & Breakfast type with contemporary furnishing & decor. Location is ideal for joggers. Attached to Nimat Spa. Don't be cheap, upgrade to the Suite. Ideal for: If this was NYC, London, or anywhere in Asia, I'd likely give it 3 or 3.5 stars, but it's Denmark, so it gets upgraded to 4. It's considered 4-5 for the area. Think adorable Bed and Breakfast, old school vs. super posh urban luxury. If you want younger and hipper, you could try Ibsens across the way. Again. Junior Suite is key. Atmosphere: Hotel Kong Arthur (HKA) has a sister hotel, Ibsens. HKA is more chill old school. They play jazz music on the radio after midnight. It's contemporary not modern with a tasteful medieval theme. Service: Staff is friendly in a Danish-way. I arrived at 7:30am. Flight was very early. They checked me in right away so I could off my jet lag. The Room: Two words. Jr Suite... I think Denmark is competing with NYC on how small they can make the hotel rooms. As a runner, specify tub or you might have just a shower. Cleanliness: The rooms are very clean. I would mention the tile choice is a bad one. It's the small squares and - while clean now, the potential group darkening is there. If I owned this hotel, I would take on the cap-ex to replace this tile with something higher end that doesn't stain. Otherwise, it's really clean. I dropped something under the bed and there were no dust bunnies. I would tell management they should potentially turn the jets on in the jacuzzi more often. I got some yucky mess on the first night that I used it. However, that has happened to me before in other really nice spots. The bathroom. It takes a little getting use to for an American. The Shower is a shower head and you pull a curtian around, while the tub is the tub. It's a nice rain shower head and the water pressure is fine, so that's all good. The toilet is a little close to the table, but that allows you to sit on it and do make-up in the mirror. The bed: It's comfy. There is as foam mattress topper. Apparently they do this odd thing in Denmark where a queen size bed has two twin comforters on top. I could see some Americans having difficulty. The lobby: Super nice. They have a Cozy time where they are currently serving a nice glass of wine if you stop by fro 5-6pm. People vary in their socialness. It's awkward after all. I did see several people make new friends though. It's nice. There is a cozy fire if you've been shopping all day. The location: It's next to the five lakes. Have a look on map my runs. It's perfectly 4m divided at each mile. Perfect if you're trying to train. People run it day and night. If you happen to be in town for some running sport, this is a solid choice.... if you get the Jr Suite. It's about 9min walk to Norreport and Metro stations (one of the closest of adequate calibre). Shorter if you cut through the back of the hotel (takes a little to figure this out). Extras: It comes with if you order on-line as does a spa chill out time. However, you can get some fairly heft discounts with a little on-line searching. The spa chill out at Nimats is worth it, as this spa is considered one of the better spots. Breakfast is quite nice. There is a great selection of fresh fruits, yogurt, bacon, sausage, eggs, drinks. Without the inclusion of breakfast, this is likely not worth what they are charging. If you'e here on business, you can grab a bag breakfast before you head out. Delightful. Wi-fi is included, but i had mixed experience with it. I noticed others, perhaps European and not america, didn't appear to struggle as much as I did with their smaller devices. Gym: Wow... tiny, but does the job. If you're a runner, I would take my fitness outside. You can also borrow bikes. No one steels bikes in Denmark and it's not bad to get around. Events: There is a 2 bed apartment that can be rented upstairs. It's random and has a really large jaccuzzi and kitchen area. They use it for art shows when no one is letting it and there is a guy that essentially lives there. The art shows are a nice touch and a treat for out of town guests. They additionally have entertainment in the lobby such as bands etc.. It's a nice vibe. Views: Eeh... maybe there are some rooms that face the water, but... did I mention, Junior Suite. Stuff to note: There doesn't appear to be a bell boy, though they are happy to help you with luggage if you have a need for it. Also, you can exit out the back door and run through Ibsen or the open gate to exit versus going all the way around the block. Advice to Management... seriously... if you start to get more Jr Suite orders, just knock down walls if you want more Americans. Also, though I like the Jr Suite, I docked a star for your fengshui. The table is horizontal on the door when entering. It just doesn't flow the right way. Work on that. read more

This is the first local green hotel chain. Modern, clean, and posh, I would definitely return, without hesitation. I really have no complaints about this hotel. We took a quick train from the airport and after arriving at the main metro station, it was a 5-10 minute flat walk with roller bags to the hotel. After that we had no use for a car or public transportation until our walk back to the metro for our departure. Our room was modern and well appointed while keeping old world charm with high ceilings and crown molding. The overall ambience and decor is hip, young, and eclectic. The beds are plush and comfortable, the tub is big enough for two, and the windows offered a lovely nightly breeze off the courtyard. There is spa annexed through the main hallway, which guests can use when open, for the jacuzzi and steam room. There is a 24 hour athletic center where I found space and a yoga mat to do an asana late at night. I tried to take a free by-appointment guest group class, however, it is a new practice on their part, and no one else had signed up. The modern and plush lobby with a well-stocked 24 hour bar was the best place to catch wifi, as it is available, but much weaker in the rooms. Parasols are available by the door, and an electric car is ready for rental. We rented bikes a few blocks away at Bisekeli (it's a social enterprise that provides bikes to the underprivileged in Africa) and parked them on the premises nightly. Every morning, the hotel was nice enough to put out coffee helping us to avoid 35Kr Kaffe to-go. The location is phenomenal. It is not only accessible to all of Kobenhavn-proper and even Christiania, but just over the lakes one block from the hotel is a lively area housing young families and artists in the daytime with nursery schools and antique shops. And at night, it turns into a very hip theater and bar scene. Cross the bridge--- you won't be sorry. All and all, we LOVE Copenhagen and Hotel Arthur Kong. read more

Despite an over-booking error which led to no vacancy on our first night, the staff were incredibly helpful and apologetic. I know things happen, so it's all in how you deal with them, they had booked us for another hotel, arranged transfer, comped some drinks and upgraded our wifi. The rooms are lovely, the morning breakfast buffet is one of the better ones I've experienced in my travels and you can't beat the location for the price. Situated just by the lakes, botanical gardens and Rosenborg Castle, it's also just a 15 min walk to the main shopping streets and a 5-10 min walk to a great food market. Ask your concierge for tips on where to go and you'll get some honest advice! Would definitely return and recommend to friends! read more

We were placed in a room next to a family with an all-time crying baby. We told this to the staff and they change our room without any problem which had made our stay even better. From 5 to 6pm, you can have wine and beer "on the house". At the back I the restaurant, you have the choice between nice Italian, Spanish and Japanese restaurants. Breakfast is also nice and can be taken on the terrace when the weather is cool enough. The location is great, close to the market hall and the city center. I'd recommend! read more

Strange brew here. First things first-this ain't no four star hotel! From the room we were given, I'd give it two stars. We were tired from travel and were checked in by an unsmiling front desk clerk who would barely look us in the eye and said nary a word unless asked directly. Huh? Same goes for the bartender who couldn't give us a list of the wines they had, but instead pointed to the bottles (which were hard to read from across the bar if you're not familiar with the labels). The room looked like an afterthought-a small king room with cheap mismatched decor made to accommodate two twin beds for my sister and me. This meant that there was a lamp right above my head, since the headboard was above my sister's bed and only covered 1/2 of my twin bed. Whaaa? And don't get me started on the bathroom-some reviewer on another site said that it looked like a bathroom in a convalescent hospital (seriously!) and I wholeheartedly agree-it has the industrial feel of a old hospital bathroom minus the cord to pull in case of emergencies. Also, um, where are the wash cloths? Dunno, none to be found here. I'm very disappointed, this is advertised as a four star hotel and that's why we prepaid when we booked it, but it's not even close. The room is dated, located in the old building above the reception area and it's small, and dingy (like a ONE STAR hotel room). The old shower is effectively two square feet with no separation between the shower floor and the bathroom floor-we expect to get water all over the bathroom floor after showering which will be a nuisance to say the least. Sis and I both agreed that we'd stay somewhere else if we could, but we'd pre-paid resting on the HKA's good (but undeserved) reputation, and we're now stuck. We are so sad and disappointed. Two stars. We're going to talk to the staff in the morning to see if something can be done-I'll keep you posted. Update: After reading other reviews from people who asked for room changes/corrections, we decided to see if our experience could be improved. And it looks like the A-team works in the morning. The friendly Jacob greeted us with a smile and changed our room which made us very happy! In our new room, the bathtub is very deep, long, and a bit skinny-soaking off our sightseeing was delightful! I stayed here for one night with my wife while in Copenhagan. Our original plan had been for two nights and we had actually already booked and paid for the rooms prior to our arrival at around 7 pm. I noticed as we were checking in that they seemed to be having a difficult time with something and the attendant noticed and told me not to worry that they had my reservation number. Seeing how I had received an email a couple of hours earlier stating just as much I wasn't too concerned. However they had for some reason overbooked the hotel and had run out of rooms. After apologizing they told us that we could stay in their sister hotel (the Isbens). After a long day of travel we were ok with that situation until we got to the room that we were given. My walk in closet at home is larger and whenever both of our suitcases made it into the room we actually had a hard time shutting the door. Since we had booked a much more spacious King sized room at a hotel with a higher star rating we ended up complaining. In the end they agreed to book us in another comparable room and paid for the taxi to that hotel and back to the Hotel Kong Arthur for the second day. Whenever we made it back the second morning they had actually ended up upgrading us to a suite. The room itself consisted of two stories with a large bathroom, living room and sitting room on the first floor and then the bed and a another sitting area in the loft like second area. I found the accommodations there to be quite nice and only wished we could have made more use of them. My only complaint about the room was that it was hot and stuffy and without any air conditioning I had to pull a fan out in order to sleep. The bottom line for me is that even with the screwup that I would probably stay here again. Overall we had pretty fabulous rooms both nights(1st night at the Scandic Copenhagan) and my wife and I agreed that even though they had screwed up pretty badly, in the end they did what they could to make it right. read more

We stayed here twice before and after our cruise. The first room we stayed at was cute and cozy. It was facing the courtyard... not so pleasant view due to all the constructions but it was a very restful night's sleep. The second time, we were facing the the street. Not so quiet because you can hear honking, sirens, and people talking in the streets (we were in 4th floor). The rooms are definitely clean. We stayed during winter so it was pleasant. When we got hot we opened the windows. Not ideal for summer time because no AC. Challenge getting luggage around because there are little steps or staircases to go from one section of the hotel to another. The staff is super wonderful. They all go out of their way to be helpful. What you see is not what you get. My feeling is that the receptionists' behavior was quite deceitful. After a very long flight from New York, at the reception desk I was asked if I wanted to stay in their 'new building' across the backyard instead of the main building. My room would be bigger and I would get one breakfast for free. The price would be the same of the original booking. As it was before the official check in time and I wanted to get a room as soon as possible in order to get some rest, I said yes. After checking in at the other building I realized that the hotel I was sent to was a three start hotel (apparently owned by the same company), called Ibsens, while the Kong Arthur was a four star hotel. So I called straight away the reception of the Ibsens and asked why I should pay the same money for a worse hotel than that of my original booking (the furniture in the bedroom and in the bathroom was quite worn out and the bathroom was tiny). This way I was able to get a discount I agreed on. When I went to the Kong Arthur to make a complaint, I was told that if I wanted I could move to their hotel the day after. But who wants to move from a room to another every day? In addition -- my booking was for two night, not just for one. So I said no. Very upsetting and unprofessional behavior. They try to get advantage of you. Maybe I am wrong but I have the feeling that those who got bookings at a good price - for example because, like us, they reserved their room well in advance, or because they booked through a website - are diverted to the 3 start hotel. read more
