We booked the room on Hotels.com for 500€ for four nights in a superior room - which means,…read moreapparently, the room is wider, and you get a bottle of water every day, as well as the use of bathrobes and those flat paper (?) slippers.
The cleanliness, smell, ventilation, and modernity of the room were all good; it has the nice big German window that opens all the way, and view into a courtyard. Pool, sauna; a small, modern, air-conditioned gym, and Internet was included, though the latter was pretty slow. It was quiet, except when housekeeping and other guests slammed their doors, and even though the building seems to be under construction - there is scaffolding in front and big plastic sheets so you can't see the nice European look of the hotel.
Two concerns:
The two male staff we encountered, who seemed to be in their 40's or so, were a bit curt and almost reproachful, and one of them had a huge rip in his work shirt, such that when he raised his right arm to yet again explain where the elevator was, we got a view of his whole armpit. Also, thanks to their bad attitude, two young boys they were training adopted the same distanced, couldn't-care-less nonchalance when asked a question.
The other issue regards the pool. After less than five minutes in it, I started feeling dizzy. I went back to the room and showered; couldn't get a slight sliminess from my skin; and I still feel dizzy and nauseous now, an hour later. There could be a problem with the balance of chemicals, or maybe it's due to poor ventilation?... They should check that out. And you should think twice about using the pool, and just go for a walk along the Rhine instead.
Or head to the Dom at dusk for a free outdoor piano concert. Unforgettable.
