The room was tired (the floors were so marked up), and we saw two bugs (maybe earwigs?) crawling into and out of the sliding door area in the bathroom. The pillows were huge, so the pillow cases didn't fully cover them, exposing the pillows on the ends. Yuck! The door to the room was difficult to close - had to practically slam it. The elevator made so much noise, we thought it was going to break down every time we got in. And the breakfast was pretty terrible. The hot food was warm at best and just poor quality. Both days, our utensils were dirty, and we had to get new ones. They had a jug of water that was supposed to be infused with cucumber (we think), but it was horrible bitter. Undrinkable. And there was no email from the hotel prior to arrival, like all other hotels do (you know, the one that welcomes you a few days beforehand so that you know they're expecting you, and you feel welcomed). Definitely would skip this place if I come back to Hamburg.

Upon arrival I had to contact the front desk about a broken window in my room (it wouldn't close, which is essential near a loud airport). It was fixed pretty quickly by a very friendly technician once he arrived with some tools, but it delayed my plans that I had in the city. How it wasn't noticed by housekeeping upon finishing up the room is beyond me, but mistakes happen. Another thing that bothered me was that although smoking is not permitted, there was a lingering smell of old cigarette smoke in my room. Maybe from people smoking outside, maybe a guest before me who smoked despite it not being allowed? It was pretty noticeable each time I came back to the room and bathroom unfortunately. There was also a slight sewage smell coming from the sink. The TV in my room kept shutting itself off every 20 mins. Very strange. The fitness area could use a treadmill. I have stayed at this hotel many times before and would again. The broken window and weird smell were a first and I hope it was just a fluke. Everything else was great!

While usually love the Radisson Hotels, in this case the entire communication reached a level that we would not want to go there again.

We slept well in this room hardly ever heard any noise and the beds was comfortable and all bedding was clean and smelt nice. Best night sleep in a hotel ever. However I did not like the fact that it was 2 single beds put together to make a double bed and so we also had 2 single duvets rather than one big duvet. Breakfast was ok not a lot to choose from hams, cheese's, smoked salmon, yoghurts, bacon, sausage, egg and pancakes. However the hot food was cold. The dinner at the restaurant though was really good I had salmon with wild rice which was delicious and my husband had a Aussie burger that came with a fried egg on top and had beetroot in it which he loved. However the waiter seemed a bit forgetful and not with it for instance he forgot the ketchup that my husband wanted. This place also has a swimming pool, sauna and gym with changing rooms, lockers and towels. Open daily 6am to 11pm accessible with your room key. Children only allowed in area when with an adult. The hotel also can supply the following items either complimentary or at a small cost from adapter, bathrobe, slippers, shaving kit, dental kit, sewing kit, vase, first aid items, baby cots, and extra beds. They are even happy to do grocery shopping for you for same day delivery as well if required as long as you hand to reception before 9 am. The reception area very nicely laid out modern, black and sleek and nice lounge area. However the receptionists are not that helpful in being able to tell people about what is good around the area ie restaurants, shops etc. So we had to go to a tourist board to go and find out further info that we needed. I think that the receptionists need to be advised by there manager about good restaurants, shops and the local area as they were not knowledgeable at all. However saying this there was one man receptionist at the beginning that we met on our first day and he was amazing however we never saw him again which was a shame. Also beware shops and most restaurants in Hamburg are NOT open on Sunday at all just the Christmas markets over the Christmas period. I highly recommend to anyone that wants a nice stay centrally in Hamburg. Easy walking distance to all the popular areas such as the Christmas markets, Chocolate factory, Miniature World, train station and harbour.

Pluses: The mattress was on the thinner side but comfortable. I've heard that they have a small gym, however, during my entire stay the gym was closed for renovations. They did have the option of the use of nearby hotel gyms, but with how cold the weather was I refrained. The room size was large including the bathroom with a large shower tub combo. Room was nice and clean too! The breakfast buffet was 12 Euro but pretty extensive with fruits, meats, eggs, pancakes, pastries, cereals, yogurt, etc. The H2O Restaurant & Bar had very affordable glasses of wine. Small refrigerator in the room. The heater kept me very very warm! Good curtains to keep out the light. My taxi was ready pretty much right outside after the front desk hung up the phone. Friendly staff. Location! Free wifi for multiple devices. Minuses: I was surprised to see that the comforters are so short here though! They are also separated by side (think two twin comforters for a king size bed) so one person gets one each. Luckily I was by myself, so I used both. They included for the bathroom - hand soap and built in bottles of shampoo and condition by Face Stockholm. I was surprised to see no hair conditioner though. And the shampoo left my hair a little flat. The lights are turned on and turned off by your keycard by inserting it in the slot by the door...all the lights! This was a pain honestly. There were times there was hallway noise, I think they may have staff working even in the middle of the night? I would give it a 3.5 but rounding up due to the fact I had a few more pluses rather than minuses. It's about a 10 minute or so walk from the majority of things to do (i.e. sightseeing attractions and shopping), but is located near some great restaurants, Rossmans, coffee shops and right next to the U-Bahn. Also, be forewarned the elevators here have blue lighting, which is trippy and not be a good idea to be drunk when staying here. The Scandic is a good option for staying in Hamburg...now if only they could get different comforters.

The only disappointment is regarding TV: not the wide flat screen but the choice of TV channels. Out of 60 channels there are only 2 that are not in German! One Algerian TV channel in French and Bloomberg in English. That's why I states that it is very German.

In room -- there is very little by way of a mini bar, but coffee and tea facilities are top notch. I ordered room service one evening and found it well priced and high quality as well (steak tartare with toast and salad + sparkling water for under 20 euros -- a deal by room service standards!). The room I had was quite large, comfortable, overlooking the main street -- but managed to be very quiet with double paned windows (that open for fresh air -- ahhhhh!). Overall very nice. The hotel is located only a few streets from the central station. So that's a plus as well. However, the bed was horrible. Too hard and the pillows were too soft. I asked for an extra pillow - that was lying on my bed when I got back to the hotel - but that didn't help at all. Since sleeping is the most important thing you do in a hotel, I'm only giving two stars. Otherwise I would've given at least three.
