Since I'm banging this out on a phone I'll do a list: Highlights- - room on top floor has private terrace with chairs and sunbeds - hotel has sun deck with sunbeds right over the water - dinner service was high quality, formal setting (break out the collared shirt!). Absolutely perfect setting for dinner, overlooking the bay/beach and out across the ocean. - we had a shuttle service to and from the hotel on our arrival and departure, to save us lugging bags across from the hydrofoil. Lowlights- - service at bar is a little hit and miss (advertised as 24/7 but staff duck away fairly often to perform other duties which I guess is fairly common for hotels) - air con is a portable unit so won't cool entire room -pay a small fee for beach towel hire

The tapenade was savory and addicting. Could have eaten that all night. We actually asked for more! Then two kinds of pasta came out. First one was a spaghetti noodle with 14+ herbs as a sauce. Excellent dishes hard to describe but it was so extraordinary because of the combination of herbs and olive oil. The next pasta had a sauce composed of (tiny chopped up pieces) fish of sea bream and more herbs. Best pasta I've ever had that had fish as the foundation of the sauce. All of the herbs enhanced the fish instead of overpowering it. We had much discussion about how no one had ever had anything like these pasta dishes ever before. I loved them both, though I think the fish pasta edges past a tiny bit. The secondi course consisted of 3 types of fish plated beautifully. Fried swordfish on a bed of violet potatoes, a croquette style fish bites and a "meatball" made completely of fish that was outstanding. All 3 were stars to the palate! On the internet you never know.... From the very first communications we were impressed with Cristian and Carolyn. Their response to our every question and inquiry were quickly answered and detailed to our satisfaction, and we trusted that they were honest and trustworthy. We asked for references and they quickly responded so we could verify their credentials. Not only did they accommodate all of our requests (special meals etc), but Carolyn was a wonderful help arranging for transport to the boat and after as well. Regarding the charter itself... we were very happy to charter Cristians Catamaran as it gave us flexibility of departure days and also accommodated our desire to start our sailing trip the day of departure until the final day of the itinerary. (many other charters use the first and last night in port which we felt would reduce the time out exploring). Cristian was happy to give us the maximum time out of port and we greatly appreciated that accommodation. The Catamaran : We were 5 people and the boat was very comfortable. Compared to single hull sailboats the Catamaran had alot of space to spread out. The cabins were very comfortable and sufficient for a small group. The boat has been well cared for. Our only regret is that mother nature didn't give us much wind, so we motored almost the entire time. The Crew: Cristian captained the boat and helped to create a great experience. He guided us to many great spots for swimming and snorkeling and to the ports. He was also very helpful in recommending restaurants at the various ports. The highlight was Rosella, who cooked breakfast and the MOST AMAZING lunches everyday. She was fun and always ready to make our meals and snacks. The itinerary was perfect.... We visited Vulcano, then Lipari (where due to weather conditions we spent 2 wonderful days there), then on to Panarea overnight, Stromboli overnight, Salina overnight, then the last night in Vulcano. We wish we could have had more days to see Filicudi and Alicudi... next time! September was the perfect time for our trip... weather was ideal, water still warm for swimming... and less tourists than the summer months. The price was good for Italy (€100) and the place was friendly, clean, and extremely hospitable. We stayed in many hotels and hostels while in Italy for three weeks, and the Petit Hotel was head and tails above the rest. Highly recommended!

We scheduled a ride to the airport in Catania and the driver showed up early in an impeccable car and was kind and professional on the long ride. Nice port! This Porto is the "gateway " to get to the Aeolian islands. A small restaurant that is…read moreattached the Porto makes the wait for the next ferry very comfortable. Big plus - it is also very affordable. If you take the ferry to one of the islands make sure not to travel with more than a carry on and read the regulations of what you can bring. Unless you are a citizen of the islands you won't allowed to bring a lot of stuff. We saw several tourists that had were asked to leave the line because of the amount of luggage they were having. Once on the ferry the ride is super comfy.
