Three years in a row my family has enjoyed our Christmas holiday in this beautiful and special…read morehome. My fiancé and I go for short weekends in the summer as well. Honestly we kind of don't want people to know about this place! In the winter they book pretty quickly.
The road to get there is steep, bumpy and winding. Not great for those who are easily queasy in the car but it only lasts maybe ten minutes and is kind of part of the charm and adventure, especially in the winter.
The wonderful family who runs the Chalet is warm and friendly (but never annoying or over-friendly). Edoardo who is also a veterinarian is the most gracious host we've encountered anywhere.
There are six rooms (2 for 3ppl and 4 for 2ppl). All rooms are on the 2nd floor (1st floor for Europeans). Most rooms have a balcony or small patio. Each room has a different theme, but all are beautiful and cozy. They smell amazing since they have all wooden furniture, walls and fixtures. The bathrooms are new with wonderful multi-head showers. The beds and pillows are very comfortable, making it easy to want to sleep in! All the room's windows and doors open in two ways and have big wooden shutters. Each room has it's own heating so they can adjust the temperature for you if you just ask. Each room also has it's own music system. You can choose from the playlist, some radio channels, or plug your own device into the speaker.
The restaurant on the ground floor has a fireplace with a large leather couch to relax, books, magazines, and games. The chef sometimes changes but every single one was amazing. The breakfast in the morning is stupendous. A bit early, I think around 8-9. Fresh juices, pastries, cereals, breads, fresh made to order eggs, cheese, speck and salami. Normally they don't offer lunch, but sometimes if you request the day before they might be able to prepare you a picnic basket. Which is nice in the summer. Everyone has the same menu for dinner, which changes daily. Served around 8/8:30 there's an appetizer, a soup or salad, a pasta, a main course and a dessert. All of the food is in season and 0km. They have a good selection of wines, I believe nearly all local. (Which the region is very famous for their white wine.)
In the basement is the ski room with boot and glove warmers and the small spa. The spa has special lighting, loungers with blankets, hot tea, sauna, steam room, ice, salt, and tropical showers. Amazing in the early evening after a long day of hiking or skiing. Personally, it's too dark to read in there. It'd kind of be nice if there was at least one chair with slightly better lighting. But I believe it's so dark partly because it's a unisex nude spa, no need to pack a swimsuit. You can ask for a robe and slippers (costs a little extra). And there are plenty of towels in the spa.
I won't list allllll the activities you can do in the area. If you have you're own car, the chalet has a special parking pass for the town center. If you don't have a car, Edoardo is very kind to shuttle guests back and forth. I believe they also have agreements for discounts on ski rentals, ski teachers, and possibly even ski passes. In the summer I believe they have available mountain bicycles and walking sticks.
One of the biggest ingredients to it's specialness is there is no technology. No wifi (they have internet cables if you really need), no TV, phone signal mostly only works outside and even then, very limited 3G.
I have too many wonderful stories about this place and the excellent service. Honestly, for me this is my home away from home. Every chance we have, I choose to go here. The only reason we don't go more often is because they only have six rooms and we're not always lucky to find space at the last minute. If you can't find a room online, don't be shy to email or call them just to make sure. Often the restaurant will take outside reservations for dinner, so if you can't find a room, or are unsure this the right place for you, try them for dinner. (If the road makes you nervous, Edoardo can normally arrange pick up and drop off.)
The warm friendly atmosphere is special here. The guests all respect each other and often form friendships. From Russia, Singapore, America, Germany, Japan, England, etc. The family speaks Italian, German, and English and I think a bit of French.
It is the perfect place to rest and recharge, enjoy an incredible uninterrupted view of the mountains, get back in touch with nature, yourself, and a loved one.
