When he saw that she was coming to the USA he told me he was signing us up for an authentic Sicilian cooking class. Ok, I'm in, that's all I knew. Well, it was so much more enjoyable then any standard cooking class. Our class was held in her friend and colleagues' home, she held other classes on her "USA tour" in other homes, restaurants and at a cooking school. While she is doing her demonstration and checking in on your preparations as you cook along with her, she is teaching you about the food, what you're using, why you're using it, the balance of flavors and the applicable history of it. During our class we first started with dessert, so the flavors have time to merge to enjoy later - Ricottamisú (similar to tiramisú but I liked this so much better!). We then made Arancini al sugo (ragu filled), and the entrata of Falsomagro (False Skinny) (like a braciola, made with Veal). All of these dishes and ingredients used to make them are familiar, but these specific recipe styles I never tried before; some ingredients I may also not have thought to use with the other. Everything was phenomenal! Not only is Annalisa an incredible cook and teacher, she is so sweet and friendly. You feel like family with Annalisa. Viva Famiglia! This was even more special to us because part of my Sicilian heritage comes from Favara! - Favara is where Annalisa is from and located. There is also a very real possibility that she is my distant family / cousin as her last name has long since been rumored to be in my family line somewhere. To learn Sicilian style cooking of that region and that town brings us so much closer to our roots. I cannot wait to finally plan a trip to see the towns my family came from, and now I have a personal connection there to see and cook with again! I'm also excited to learn of the Almond, Museum, Winery and Olive Oil tours she will take you on! GoSicily is a MUST on your Sicilian agenda!

We met him at the entrance to the park and he was immediately welcoming and friendly. His immense knowledge of the history of his city and the temples themselves is extensive and he is so passionate about the subject. His ability to make connections between us and the history of the area added a lovely personal touch. He had an ability to tailor the tour to our group on the fly based upon our interests and background which made it less of a lecture and more interactive. We rented a car and drove down two hours from Palermo just for this tour and we would do it over and over again if it meant learning more about the area from Lorenzo! Daniel, who checked us in, is AMAZING!! Friendly, professional and had the most wonderful suggestions for restaurants to have dinner. We chose one of his recommendations, Kokalos, which offers spectacular view of Temples, delicious food and excellent service!! Daniel put us in the best room which overlooked the garden and the view of the illuminated Temples at night was very romantic! The bed was huge and VERY comfortable! WiFi and buffet breakfast with tons of tasty selections are included! The bathroom was spacious and had a higher pressured shower than other places we've stayed. The prices are very reasonable and the proximity to the tourist areas is convenient! The exceptions are noteworthy, and Residence Villa Margherita for us was a wonderful travel experience well worth repeating. Salvatore, the owner, is a great host, very friendly and will do almost anything to make your stay memorable and enjoyable, including playing the saxaphone, giving you a drink of his own Marsala wine for an apertif and providing a gluten free meal for my wife. Each room is unique and decorated in an expressive, colorful way. The hotel has been recently renovated so all the rooms are fresh and new. For breakfast we had a wonderful selection of fruit and cold cuts that for us was an ample and delicious start to the day. A stay here will be memorable!

The staff is extremely well trained to make you feel welcomed and in serene. No bossing you around or telling you can't do this can't do that. Very friendly staff, super service all around, gorgeous room, amazing views, gorgeous golf course. Of course all the restaurants in the grounds are over priced, but that is to expect. If you are adventurer and have a vehicle I would recommend to check out the near by towns and restaurants for your meals. Overall, Great experience, from the moment you drive in to the property.

This comes about a year and a half late, but I wanted to provide a review of our outstanding…read morehoneymoon spent at Verdura in October of 2022. This resort is the ultimate escape. The property is beautiful and sprawling - easy and fun to explore with the inclusion of free bikes everywhere. My husband and I enjoyed riding the bikes around the winding trails across the property and using them to get from our room to the restaurants, bars, pool, and gym on property. The pool was beautiful, as was the beach. So many wonderful places to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the scenery. The gym was very large and well equipped. I do regret not taking advantage of the spa services as the entire spa/fitness complex was very serene. Service was outstanding. Ambiance was incredible. Rooms were luxurious (particularly the bathrooms!). The resort is so sprawling that no one part of it ever felt crowded. It truly felt like we had so much privacy. My only complaint is that food prices in the seafood restaurant were a little high for food that was just ok. But we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and patio in the main building, as well as a more casual dining option near the golf clubhouse. All in all, I wish we would have spent more of our honeymoon at Verdura. Our stay seemed far too short. Final thoughts - an excellent, romantic getaway for couples, but I suspect this place is also a family paradise in the summer months. There seems to be a lot of programming and activities for children.
