Large, modern and stylish hotel close to Wittenbergplatz U-bahn station and the Shöneberg area of Berlin. The big department store of KaDeWe is five minutes' walk.
I've stayed here six times (each time for 5 nights) and always had a good experience. The rooms are spacious by European standards, particularly those at the ends of the corridors (which are also quieter). Most have twin beds and almost all have showers or wet rooms (ie few have baths). The bath areas feature nice touches like under-floor heating. The rooms have a stylish black and white theme (black mosaic tiling in the bathrooms).
The beds are very good and the rooms pretty well soundproofed, though a little corridor noise does penetrate if other people close their doors noisily or the cleaners are vacuuming outside. A few floors are designated as quiet floors.
The heating and air-conditioning have always worked well for me (whether 34C or -4C outside). Views from the higher floors on the west side (towards the Zoo) are impressive. I've always found the complementary WiFi to be excellent: around 60mbs upload and download.
Rooms have a hair dryer, fridge and kettle, and a free bottle of water on arrival, though one gripe is that after the first day, tea/coffee isn't topped up by room service and you have to ask reception. Room cleaning is otherwise good and runs until mid afternoon - good if you need to lie in.
There's a cosy bar area and a huge, cavernous restaurant on the ground floor, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a very large self-service buffet, with lots of choice, though the cooked section is a little disappointing given the range of cold food.
At €18 breakfast is expensive but I've often had it included in my package. There are loads of reasonably priced breakfast places nearby as an alternative. There's a small chiller cabinet in the spacious reception area, selling slightly pricey drinks, snacks and sandwiches.
I've only had dinner a few times; it's perfectly ok, modern European in style, but there are some very good restaurants in the area where you can eat well for less. Expect to pay €40+ plus for two courses with wine/coffee.
I've always found the staff to be helpful, so don't understand the comments on some of the reviews here: just bear in mind most of the rooms have twin beds and shower rooms only, and the design of the rooms is such that twin beds can't be pushed together. read more
