Thanks to Pascal & David for wonderful front desk service! The location is very convenient from the airport. Take train S2 or S24 to Enge and cross the street to the hotel. It's only 15 minutes. These are Swiss trains, so they are clean and on time. It's walking distance from Old Town and many tourist destinations, though not right in the middle of them, so it's quite peaceful. I enjoyed a delicious breakfast (included in the room charge) each morning, complete with coffee, scrambled eggs, bacon, and an array of pastries, breads, cured meats, cheeses, juices, cereals, and fruit. I think there was even champagne, though I never partook. Breakfast is served from 6:30-10:30am M-F and 7-11am S-Su. It's great that breakfast hours span the entire time one could conceivably want to eat breakfast. The Enge station has a convenience store, a bakery, a pretzel store, a Sprungli (chocolate shop), a Chinese restaurant and a McDonald's that's open almost 24 hours, for when you have jetlag and the munchies. There's also a convenience store and Starbucks right next to the hotel. Other than that though, there's not a ton in the neighborhood. I did have an issue with the shower. The water was either scalding hot or icy cold. It took a lot of adjusting to get the shower to be warm, and then sometimes the water would suddenly get really hot or really cold again.

They also have a cellphone with internet connection that you can take with you when you go sight seeing. Yes, food in their restaurant is on the pricey side but serving is huge and quality is also good. Japanese tepanyaki restaurant next to Hotel is alsvery good as well. I would like to let you know that I had a bad experience as soon as I entered in the hotel for check-in. If I'm not wrong there was an employee named Vicky/Vicki who does not know how to start an interaction with customers. Firstly, he was talking to someone on the phone, I let it go. I said hi to him twice he did not even respond, I let it go again. Suddenly, I heard a word "Yes" or "Hi" from his side while he was working on something and watching the computer screen. I was so confused whether he's talking to us or someone else on the computer screen/video call. However, as a courtesy I responded back by saying hello and ended up leaving my bags at the front because I was asked for extra money for early check-in. Moreover, I ended up check-in in the evening around 8pm and Helen/Halen helped me out. While I was in the room I found there's no complementary normal water bottles which is actually a basic thing to have, not everyone likes sparkling water. I called at the front desk whether I can get normal water bottles instead she (might be Helen or someone else) replied that there's no room service and I have to go downstairs and buy some. I also asked whether I can get a bottle opener, she advised me to request with the restaurant staff to get one. I went downstairs, and requested one of the waiters at the restaurant for a bottle opener and the waiter (don't know his name, I'm sure you can easily find out who was working that time) showed me the opener he had but didn't give it to me because he had only one. He asked to bring all the bottles downstairs so he can open for me! I told him that I would go to the room, open my bottles and will come right away to give your bottle opener back. However, he did not even try to listen and denied again which was actually so rude and disrespectful in front of the other customers and employees. Instead, he took me back to the front desk to Helen/Halen and gave me the one bottle opener was available at the front desk which was shocking to me because if you have an item available at the front which is requested by customer then why would you send me to the restaurant area to get one!!! I questioned Ms. Helen/Halen why she didn't give me the bottle opener at first. She replied "Ohh people take it but do not give it back, that's why" such a dumb reply. If people take it, you have their room numbers, take security deposit or charge them, give them for a particular time or keep one available in every room ( so no one have to get in touch with any of you). I mean you all are in the customer line, customer should be the first priority at any cost but none of these 3 employees knows how to handle the customers or deal with the situations that they are facing at the hotel. It could be so much better if Mr. Vicky/Vicki knows how to make an eye contact while attending a customer. Instead of showing too much attitude, being rude and disrespectful. It could be so much better if Ms. Helen/Halen gave me the bottle opener instead of directing me to the restaurant. I mean if she didn't want to give it to me, she should have gone by herself and get me one from the restaurant area. It could be so much better if the restaurant waiter (again don't know his name) was a little bit respectful and not so loud, instead of dragging me around and giving me a millions of excuses. I mean, If you are showing that you have one then give it to me, I'll bring it back right away. But he asked me to bring all the bottles at the restaurant instead. Staff was nice, but not overly helpful for travelers trying to figure out things like the local train schedule. Train station closer-by, easy walk. Rooms were just OK. Cutesy little safe handles on all the doors. Not located in the best part of the city, but safe. Our main criticism of the hotel (like the review of the restaurant there) is that they allow smoking in the building. We get it, in Europe smoking is much more of a thing than in the U.S., but the Kameha Grand was the only hotel we visited in two weeks that allowed smoking indoors. The hotel would claim "it's only a section in the restaurant." That may well be, but it's like the early attempts to segregate non-smokers in U.S. restaurants into a different section, no walls, no fans, no filtration system, just a separate area. That's the Kameha Grand. Apparently management is obvious to the spread of cigarette smoke throughout the building. It smelled like a casino with no ventilation. For the price, you have to do better than that. If you're a heavy smoker, Kameha Grand is your kind of place. For a non-smoker, we cannot recommend you stay there.

One thing that really surprised us was having to go through border control and customs on top of the already long security line before we entered certain terminals. It took us over an hour and a half to get through just border control and we hadn't expected that at all. Better signs or clearer communication about the process would have made a big difference. Getting from our plane to our next gate was also confusing. We were connecting on the same airline but after getting off the plane we had to take a tram to get to our next gate which was the SAME airline. The airport wasn't marked very well and we constantly second guessed if we were going in the right direction. On the positive side the food was never a problem here. Options seemed to be everywhere around the airport and there was a wide variety no matter where we were. We also liked that sleeping accommodations were available. They were a bit expensive for what you get but it was nice to have that option after a long trip or a long overnight layover like us. Overall Zurich Airport is clean and modern and offers lots of conveniences but I think they could greatly enhance passenger experience by having clearer signs and a process that is easier to understand.

It's a 5-6 minute walk to/ from Zürich Hauptbanhof which was very convenient since I used the train a lot (from the airport and to get to other cantons). It's within walking distance from shopping, restaurants, cafes, bars, grocery stores, and landmarks. Zürich is known for being the most expensive place to visit. Hotels can run from $100-1000+ a night. This hotel is mid-range. They have a bar and a restaurant at the lobby. 24/7 front desk, luggage storage if you want to walk around before checking in or after checking out. Public transportation is nearby. So, it's close enough to everything but hidden enough so, it's still quiet. My room had a view of Lake Zürich and the bridge, and a government building. It was spacious with all the amenities except for a fridge. The bathroom has glass walls and you can draw the curtains from outside for privacy. The toiletries smelled nice. The towels don't have that "hotel smell" that I hate. There's a cinema the plays movies all day with a schedule posted on the door. They have vending machines, free tea and coffee...next to an ironing board which was odd. You can rent an umbrella if you need one for a rainy day. The exterior is nice. People were taking pictures.

Yes, your bathroom is right there, in that glass pod. The windows were incredible! I had a lovely city view that I could adjust to any amount of light due to the slatted curtains. And because our building had (the very rare) AC, the windows did not open to outdoor air, which is a shame, the nights were cooler than the room got and I was hot flashing. We had a king-size bed, up against the window, a desk and television, a sink and refrigerator and a closet space. The room was as wide as the bed is long. Blew my mind. The staff was most courteous, the check in folks especially. Bar staff was awesome and they know how to draw a great cappuccino too. I can't wait until we get to travel back to Switzerland and get to stay here again. It's so central to everything and made getting to places a breeze.

The issues that I had would be the room temperature was too warm and there was not way for us to decrease it any lower. The other issue we had was our room was right over the bar and we heard the noise and music late into the night. Our reservation showed valid right up until we arrived -- after 16 hours of international travel. At check-in, we were told it had been cancelled. We received no notice or communication from the hotel or Expedia. We were exhausted, in a foreign country, and now had no place to stay. Assistant Front Office Manager Pia Commin told us Expedia cancelled it. Based on this, we blamed Expedia. But after returning home, Expedia confirmed the hotel cancelled the booking -- not them. I have screenshots proving this, and they're attached. That means Pia either intentionally or negligently misled us during an extremely vulnerable moment. Worse, she changed her story multiple times: first claiming the cancellation was due to a payment issue the day before, then saying it was cancelled one hour before our arrival. Another staff member said Pia was modifying our booking the night before. Their stories didn't add up. This was not a prepay, it was pay at hotel, there was no payment until we arrived. Either way, still no communication even if true, but it was not true. After 2-3 hours of frantically trying to find another hotel, Pia finally offered one room that had been blocked off due to loud construction noise. It was our only option, so we paid 307 CHF for it. We then had to pay 396 CHF for a second night elsewhere. The construction noise was unbearable, and this experience ruined the start of our trip -- one we had planned for years. We did not escalate on-site because Pia claimed to be the highest supervisor and we didn't want to waste more of our trip fighting. My wife was in tears. This was devastating. After returning home, I contacted Pia's boss, Simon, who said the cancellation happened in April -- and blamed our Expedia upgrade. However, I upgraded on April 17, and Expedia provided a new itinerary confirming the upgraded River Suite. Everything appeared valid on our end. His evidence was a basic spreadsheet with no detail, just showing the original room was cancelled, which it was after the upgraded room. The upgraded room showed valid and confirmed since april to the day we tried to check in. Another hotel employee, Klay Franziska, claimed the hotel didn't cancel -- yet provided no proof, while I provided clear documentation. Klay also encouraged me to leave negative reviews and said he would reply to them -- which says a lot. Simon and Pia may respond to this claiming they "accommodated us," but putting us in a construction-ridden room after hours of stress doesn't excuse dishonesty or the initial mistake. We lost hours, suffered emotionally, and were left completely unsupported by the hotel staff until we were desperate. This wasn't a simple issue -- this was avoidable and inexcusable. I requested a 300 CHF compensation for the distress and additional cost. They refused and blamed Expedia. I've also emailed the Director of Rooms, Lorena Oehninger -- she has said nothing. Summary: Our confirmed booking was wrongly cancelled by the hotel The hotel lied about who cancelled it Gave conflicting reasons Provided a loud, undesirable room only after hours of desperation Caused hours of emotional distress to us when we should have been enjoying our room / trip Refused to accept accountability or compensate fairly This was the worst hotel experience we've ever had, and the only bad one during our Switzerland trip. If you value honesty, customer care, and peace of mind, do not stay here.
