This is a great family owned boutique hotel in the old city of Istanbul, just steps away from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia tucked away in a less hectic area not buzzing with the hum of tourists. Depending on where your room is in the hotel, you may need ear plugs to keep you from waking up each morning to the Muslim call to prayer. The rooms are small, but clean. Their was a small fridge in the room you could use to store water. They sell bottled water for 1 TL per bottle if you want. The room was also air conditioned. The hotel is located in a historic building, and thus doesn't have an elevator. But, when we checked in they had someone available to help us carry our luggage up to our room.
For an extra 25 Euros we were able to arrange an airport pick up and drop off with the hotel. Included in the cost of the room was a lovely breakfast served on the roof top terrace, which has a enclosed area for the colder months. From the roof top you have a great view of the water and Blue Mosque. They also offer a free hot tea service in the late afternoon in the lobby area. The free wifi was very good, and there was also a computer in the lobby area that you could use for free.
The service was always friendly and provided helpful advice and great recommendations.
My friend was staying in another hotel closer to the Blue Mosque, and she came and joined us a couple of times for breakfast at our hotel for 10 TL. She mentioned that upon her next return to Istanbul she would DEFINITELY stay here vs. returning to her hotel. I couldn't agree with her more. I will definitely return to Hotel Tashkonak should I ever have the pleasure of travelling back to Istanbul in the future. read more
