So finding a Hilton in the middle of an airport between terminal 1 and 2 was so amazing! We were…read moreable to come in from out trip to the Netherlands and not just have a Hilton experience we've grown accustomed to when choosing a hotel but the convenience of walking to the airport the next morning ( 10 minute walk to our gate) was priceless. The entire family got to relax after a long day on the train and get some good sleep before it was time to come back home. There were food options within the hotel as well as right outside within the airport, there's even a grocery store 5 minutes away. Everything was clean, and very spacious my biggest let down was they even had a pool but after 1700 so 5pm kids could not swim and being we got here after 5 that gave us 0 chance to unwind which was such a let down especially since we booked this knowing the kids could swim for a little before bed. But the convenience itself is still worth it, we didn't have to deal with the stress of figuring out a shuttle 6am and it was spotless so even though the pool was a let down we'd book again in a heartbeat.

We stayed one night here, short night due to an early flight the next AM. We ate at the hotel…read morerestaurant, which in a separate review I would rate 3-stars. Just average... service, food, etc., their only advantage is location... if you're at the hotel, no other dining options. The hotel itself was good. Staff friendly and helpful. The room was nice and comfortable, decent size, and well appointed. Easy option if you need an airport hotel. Good option for one night!

In recent years, we have stayed at Kastanienhof two or three times a year - essentially the first…read morestop whenever possible each time we go to Europe. Mainly due to it's proximity to public transportation (bus from the airport, train to the city center) and to the fabulous Therme Erding. Worth breaking down our review notes into a few categories. LOCATION: They advertise themselves as an airport hotel, which is a little peculiar as Erding is a pretty good distance from the airport, and every time we've taken a taxi, it's been in the neighborhood of 30 euros - TOO MUCH! Last time, we took the bus. It was five euros (per person) but goes non-stop from the terminal to the train station in Erding, which is right across the street from Hotel Kastanienhof. A bit less convenient, but totally worth the savings. The train is the end of the S-Bahn line that runs into downtown Munich; very handy for catching long distance trains at the Hauptbahnhof, or sight-seeing anywhere in Munich, but you do have to figure in the 40 minute or so transfer time into town. Trains seem to leave about every 20 minutes from Erding. THERME: We stay here because we love to visit the therme our first day in Europe to combat jet lag in the German tradition of decadence! Certainly an easy walk during daylight through a very pretty park, or your can take the S-Bahn one stop to "Alt Erding" and cut your walking time in half. If you drive to the therme, you have to go around the town, which almost takes longer than walking. We've had a car with us several times, and the underground parking garage has been a nice perk. The hotel has package deals that include spa tickets, parking, breakfast, and a room all for one price. Usually a good deal. ROOMS: Some of the rooms DO smell pretty smokey, and yes, the beds are pretty hard, but we routinely experience both those things in most 'real' European hotels. The rooms are reasonably spacious and nicely appointed, and it's worth buying into the internet package if you have business to do on line. We prefer the rooms on the outside of the hotel which give you a view of the surrounding town. BREAKFAST: Always a nice spread in the European buffet style, though we've been there a couple times when a tour group is on the grounds. Arriving at breakfast after they do always leads to disappointment. There are bakeries within walking distance downtown, as well as several local eateries, all within walking distance, but we typically pay the extra euros and eat at the hotel. There are quite a few hotels in Erding, and we have considered trying others, but given the convenience to the bus and train, and repeatedly pleasant stays there, why go anywhere else. Get the spa package, spend a day at the therme, and soak your jet lag away!
