I can't believe I haven't written a review about "The Westrich" yet! This is my go to restaurant whenever I'm looking to eat out. A convenient 5 minute walk from Smith housing if you go through the walk in gate. They take reservations, but most days, you can just go ahead and walk on in. Especially if you're like me and always choose to eat dinner right as the kitchen opens because it will be dead. I'm sure it says a lot about how much of a party animal I am if I'm only 25 but always eat within the hours of a senior citizen's early bird special. Anyways, on to the food!
Here are my favorite dishes:
Schnitzel Holstein. Basically its a schnitzel covered in grilled onions and mushrooms then topped with a FRIED EGG. If you know me you know that I will pretty much eat anything with a fried egg on it. You can also get a fried egg on the holzfallersteak (spelling?) but I find that the cut of meat for that is much dryer and I prefer the extra flavor of the schnitzel.
Chicken wrapped in bacon and cream cheese sauce: It's basically two chicken breasts stuffed in a creamy, garlicy cheese sauce. Then pushed together and wrapped in bagon. Spectacular! Order it with a side of fries and use the fries to scoop up any leftover sauce. And do the same for the schnitzel holstein's egg yolk. Actually, just always order fries. They are delicious here.
The "Chef Schnitzel": Now this is a new dish that they have recently unveiled and I'm super excited to talk about it. Do not order this unless you are starving, or want leftovers for a couple meals. Its 3 Schnitzels (You heard me. Three) on top of a thick layer of scallopped potatoes cooked in bacon grease and then covered in bacon bits. And the whole darn thing is covered in an amazing layer of cheese then baked. No, this is not healthy. This is not Paleo, or low carb, but it's worth it. It's worth every bacon and cheese covered bite.
I went ahead and tried to vary the other day and order a pizza, because I realized after a year of coming here I'd never tried it. I wasn't impressed. Youre better off ordering one of the entrees. You get more bang for your buck, it's quite delicious, and on top of that you get a delicious salad to go with your meal. At the end of it all you're most likely going to get a 2 for 1 coupon so the next time you return you can bring a friend and one of you gets to eat for free. It's a no brainer to try this place out! read more
