If you are…read moretraveling by car, and if you want to pull in, enjoy a gourmet meal with a fine selection of wines, wander up to your room for the night, break your fast, and depart in the morning, then this is a good choice with a lot of interest. Some of the rooms overlook the high street, but the owners of the hotel have installed high quality windows that block the noise. The carpet in some of the rooms exudes a musty, moldy smell, and the bath is small and chilly, but I found the firm mattress comfortable and the high quality cotton sheets pleasant. The free, highly functional wifi was a pleasant surprise. The historic building has huge potential: I found myself constantly envisioning the place as a high end hotel showcasing antiques. However, the rooms currently do not represent a good deal for the price. The true highlight of your stay will be the rich, subtle, deft and flavorful meals dished up for dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The restaurant deserves four stars or more. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, and the hotel offers a respectable German buffet with bread rolls, sliced meat and cheese, jams and butter. They also provided coffee, tea, fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals. When you pay for your room in the morning, stop to admire the original stone well. The well gave Brunnenhof its name and still occupies pride of place between the kitchen and the till. When it rains you can hear the water splashing against the stones far below. The family still draws water from the well to feed the washing machine.

The bathroom was also large, bright, and clean, perhaps intended for disabled occupants. I did not inspect or use the kitchenette. From my business travel experience to larger cities, the price seems quite reasonable. I only ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which had a decent offering of breads, meats, and yogurts. The front desk staff were incredibly kind and cheerful without being obsequious. They were prompt and courteous in helping me correct via email my booking made online, and then once again when my flight was canceled. I'm not quite certain how convenient the location is since I walked most places without a plan, including the historic center. If I ever make it back to Aachen, I will stay here again.
