Located in the small village of Kronenburg atop a hill (and next to the ruins of the Kronenburg fortress), it provides an elegant setting for special occasions or business meetings. The menu offers a good selection of dishes (I had a great steak) and tasty desserts. The breakfast buffet offered bread, rolls, meats&cheeses, eggs, cereals, juices for a good start in the morning. Conference rooms for business meetings or seminars are available. There's also an outside pool and wellness area (sauna) for more relaxing activities. The rooms include a suite on two levels, or with included sauna. Overall a very enjoyable experience. If you have the time, try to arrange a twilight tour of Kronenburg by torch light.

The room was comparably small for a double bed, however the reservation was for a single occupant. Both the room and the toilet were clean. Warm water was available for bathing. The radiator once turned on increased the room temperature to a comfortable level. The window was freely openable to let fresh air in. The hotel respected my request to have a quiet room (not overlooking the main road) on a higher floor. Hotel staff were welcoming. The breakfast buffet was diverse and contained a good range of breads and diary products. Two espresso machines were available. I recommend this hotel for solo and couple travelers.

Always a bit quirky…read moreand fun, Ibis has a young feel to it and is simple and clean--just what's needed for a short 1 or 2 night stay (I'd even stay longer personally). Room sizes are small but you don't need much if visiting the city. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They were super accommodating and let us check in before the normal check in time (starts at 14.00 but we got there at noon). We were also able to park our car for that day and the day after for 9 eur (pretty cheap!) Location is also fantastic! Near to Europa Platz, this is the perfect hotel to stay at if you are visiting the Carolus Thermen Bad, only a 5-7 minute walk away. Also quite a quick walk to the center, about 15 minutes (there's also a well connected bus stop right in front of the hotel). Price is very reasonable, 40 per person, including breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, their breakfast buffet is small but has a large selection, including yogurt, bagels, breads, pastries, smoothies, fresh juices, cheeses, cold meats, cereals and a good warm beverage dispenser. I'll definitely return here again next time I want to go to Aachen!

The parking was also good, underground and included in our room rate. Breakfast was excellent with many diverse choices. Those with smaller appetites though may wish to skip the 14 euro charge and just get a coffee on the square. A major disappointment was no air conditioning anywhere. While we understand this is a northern climate, it can and does get quite hot in Germany. Indeed it was 31 C the day we stayed. City areas are noisy with people leaving bars between 12-2 am (we've found this to be true all over Western Europe), and even with ear plugs it can be noisy. Other hotels in Aachen, I e the Novotel , are air conditioned so I think this would also be a good addition. The other weird thing was no ice. The person at the desk gave me a glass and said there are no ice machines anywhere in Germany, something I find difficult to believe. The internet charge is 5 euro, which is not so bad. But, only one device can be logged in at the same time. A second person logging in to the same room kicks off the first, and one has to re-enter all the information about the room and check out date, etc. Quite annoying, and very fixable I think. All in all the aquis grana would be ok for a visit in fall or winter, but in summer I'd recommend getting a hotel with a/c of which there are several to choose from in Aachen.

The area is quite nice and walkably close to the touristy restaurant and castle area.
