Even though I speak very little German, It was easy to communicate with the owners and the waitress at dinner time. Every morning the owners and their family where at breakfast and it was not uncommon to see their little 2-yr old daughter/grand daughter running around or their little dog. I enjoyed this as it reminded me of my house and my son chasing our dogs. The room's were impeccably clean and the bed was very comfortable. I was surprised to find a mini fridge in the room as the previous hotels i have stayed at in Germany had none. Also, the shower was much bigger than previous hotels had been which is always a plus when you don't have to step out of the shower to turn around. The hotel also offered dinner in the hotel restaurant Monday through Saturday. I was never left hungry or disappointed. The beer was amazing and (i thought) really cheap. They do take Credit (Visa or MasterCard) but to do so requires a 15 Euro bill minimum. This was a task I enjoyed having to reach. Every night there was a new special and it was always worth it. My first meal was the Goulash as recommended by my boss and it was well worth the 3.50 Euro for the amount i was served. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and look forward to having to go back to the area and do more work there. I would and do recommend this place to anyone traveling through the area if for nothing else than a really good home cooked meal.

But they really succeed in keeping old German charm (ie wooden floors and a 4 poster bed) but mixed with clean modern amenities (ie spotless bathroom). But a couple tips do not get the single room (unless u want a taste of prison life). The single room is tiny and the shower, bed, toilet are all right next to each other lol). We had the iron workers' room (we think, we were not able to translate the German) but it may have been the prison room. It was located above the reception area and looked out above the front door. It was spacious, although pretty barren in its amenities (there was a tall storage locker with multiple compartments as well as a table with two chairs, three smaller tables (two with side lamps) and a shelf (for a desk). I guess the sparseness of the room was supposed to be reminiscent of...a prison!! The breakfast spread was excellent and the girls who work the front desk are a hoot, very friendly and they all speak varying degrees of English. Wifi is free, easy to use, and consistent. Know the reception area is closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., so you have to work around that for check in and out. Also, there is "parking" behind the hotel but it's really a small courtyard with no lines so only two cars can fit at any given time--the hotel should really put lines in, they could at least get three cars in there with some structure. Still, you should plan on parking along the street or in the public parking (move your car by 8 a.m.) and even then, you might be parking further away. Also, if you get one of the rooms near the front, it can start to get a bit noisy around 7 a.m. with doors opening and closing, footsteps, and voices. Overall, we would stay here again, very unique, great location, friendly staff, good breakfast spread.

We had a traditional German spread in the cozy breakfast nook every morning. The service was pleasant. The soap was one of those all in one squeeze bottles in the shower like you find at the gym, so definitely bring your own shampoo. The best parking is next door in the public garage or on the street. The hotel garage is very very small and not really worth maneuvering one's boat-like vehicle into-not that they have many spaces really. Overall, this is my favorite place so far in Amberg for a more Bavarian feel.

After a 24 hour trip from the states, I was ready to check in, eat and freshen up. The problem was the place was locked up. All the doors were secure. After walking around the facility and ringing a few bells, I was ready to leave when a charming lady came out to greet me. After checking in, I asked if the kitchen was open so that I could eat. I was informed that they had hosted a festival over the weekend and the kitchen and bar were closed for a few days for cleaning. My room looked nice. It was a true local experience. Unfortunately, I was in loft, and we know heat rises, so my room was unbearable. I opened windows to cool down, but that let the insects in. And the insects loved feasting on me. Needless to say, even after being awake for 30+ hours, I was only able to doze for 2 hrs that night. I was ready to check out of the hotel and find a new one. I asked the owner if she could put a fan in my room and she was happy to do so. It was still hot, but with circulating air. I was able to sleep and work from my room. Very nice people. So helpful. The local town was beautiful. Short drive or a 20 minute walk. After seeing this, and getting the fan, I decided to continue my stay.

Breakfast was standard, bread, meats, cheese, and probably the best coffee I've had in Germany. For dinner, they had a variety of Bavarian food, all excellent. They are also a meat shop, I didn't take advantage of that for obvious reasons but I'm sure it's also good. They all speak perfect English and extremely friendly! I would stay here again!
