I don't normally shop at H of F, because it somehow gives me an uncomfortable and repressing feeling - it has more security guards than shop assistants and even their assistants are aggressive towards customers. I heard that many people have been followed by their security guards, but to be fair, they have never followed me.
I was referred to H of F by another shop since they did not have in stock what I wanted. I thought how bad could it be, so I went to H of F, only to experience a horror!
I was there for only less than 15 minutes, bought what I came for and had a quick look around. At the door, there were quite a few security guards, but I did not think too much. However as I go through the door, the alarm rang and they found a small keyring in my bag. I said sorry but I did not know how it got into my bag. They said to me nicely: "not to worry, please just go to the office with me, you give back the keyring and do some paperwork and then you can go..." This never happened to me, but I thought that was probably their normal procedure so I went with them.
We got to their "office", and I was put in a small dark room with only a chair. They started asking questions like have you been shoplifting before? I said No! and they asked for my address and DoB, which I gave. They said I'd be banned from all their department stores across the UK for a year, which I "happily" accepted. I signed the form to this effect and thought I could go as they promised.
Now that they have got all that they wanted, they started to become more and more aggressive towards me. They insisted on searching my handbag, and my shoppings. They took away my umbrella, my sunglasses, my wallet, my gloves and my mirror and even my handbag itself!!! They said they all looked new!!! I said they were not and were clearly in use!!! They said their manager handles thousands of products a day, so if she says they are new, they are new. I said but I know they are not, they are all at least more than 2 months old!!! I said even if they are new, you cannot just take away my procession! They told me they can!!! They threatened to take me to the police. When I said please do call the police, they started changing the subject. When I insisted on them calling the police, they told me why don't you call the police?
I also bought a coat from Gucci that day. They searched that as well, and were questioning whether the Gucci receipt was a receipt! This really just shows how stupid they are - first of all, they don't recognize what is a receipt; secondly, clearly a stolen Gucci coat would not be in a Gucci bag and all wrapped nicely!!! Where is their common sense?!
Eventually they told me to go home and if I want my things back I can only get them back by showing them my proof of purchase! Luckily, I was able to show proof of purchase for my things and I got them back, but this means additional unpleasant trips to H of F. And more importantly, what if I did not have proof of purchase for all my things?!
Well, needless to say, after this horrid experience, I am never going to shop at any H of F again all my life and all my friends are probably not going either! It is a shame that such a store even exists! read more
