11/12/2025: Consultation with Dr. Bruner for accidents that left my entire upper-back in constant…read morepain, bicep & wrist weakness, numb & tingly fingers. MRI showed 4 cervical herniated discs, but he recommended 1-level fusion (since he's performed ~4000 fusions & ~40 ADRs). Being young and otherwise healthy, I'm anti-fusion and advocated for artificial disc replacement. Unsure if Dr. Bruner is biased/had outdated information, but he assured me that fusion DOESN'T limit mobility & that FDA only approves of 1-level ADR [untrue]. To my distaste, Dr. Bruner downplayed the difficulty of performing each surgery & mentioned how surgery makes him money. I don't play about my pain and health issues, so he eventually agreed to do ADR on my C5-6 *emphasis on C5-6* 12/18/2025 Surgery Day: I arrived at Northside 9:30am and was in pre-op for HOURS hooked up to dilaudid IV, then Dr. Bruner walks into my room saying "Ready to replace C6-7? If I cannot access C6-7 to replace, can I do a fusion there instead?" I rejected the fusion and replied "I thought we were only replacing C5-6". He checks his notes then said "Oh, you're right. I usually don't apologize but I'm sorry." Ultimately, Dr. Bruner canceled my surgery b/c my "MRI was too old" (which he should've mentioned AT LAST MONTH'S CONSULTATION), ordered me to get new MRI, and wanted to reschedule surgery to next week. Once again, Dr. Bruner suggested that I be "open-minded to fusion" & mentioned gladly performing my surgery b/c it is easy and will put money into his pockets. I urged the importance of doing my surgery soon since the new year was approaching, meaning I would have different health insurance (Kaiser Permanente) and would have to restart the whole process again. He promised that if I get ADR surgery at Emory (under KP), he would refer me to trusted fellow neurosurgeons. I left the hospital at 4:30pm after SEVEN HOURS of NOTHING. My boyfriend was also there and witnessed this ordeal. 12/24/2025: Scheduler called me to reschedule surgery date and got annoyed that I was hesitant to follow through after my TERRIBLE experience with Dr. Bruner. Her tone was like I should be grateful that Dr. Bruner is willing to take time out of his Christmas vacation to operate on me AS IF IT WASN'T HIS FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE. 1/2026: I chose the Emory route but Dr. Bruner refused to refer me to an Emory surgeon, lol who would've thought! TLDR: RUN !!! I've been in-and-out of doctors' offices for the past 4 years, and this is BY FAR the WORST healthcare experience I've EVER had. Dr. Bruner lives up to the negative neurosurgeon stereotypes (derogatory), Advanced Neurosurgery Associate front-desk lady is rude, surgery scheduler is rude. If helping people makes you miserable, then get another job! Only Toni the PA and the medsurg tech were pleasant.

I want to take a moment to thank the staff at Northside Hospital Gwinnett, especially the PC Unit…read more1200. First, I want to recognize the Emergency Room staff. They were prompt and immediately saw about my mother, Miss Dennis, and made sure she was admitted and received the attention she needed. In moments like that, quick action means everything to a family. I also want to recognize the attending physician, Dr. Herschel W. Smith, who admitted my mother to the PC Unit. He was amazing. He saw the need for immediate care and made sure my mother was taken care of and placed where she needed to be. His attention and action made a real difference for our family. One nurse stood out the most -- Nurse Charlize. She truly understood her assignment. During a very stressful time while my mother was being cared for, I had many questions and a lot of emotions. Even when there were things she could not answer because she wasn't the doctor, she reassured me and helped calm my spirit. She listened, not just as a nurse but as a compassionate human being. I was even able to share some personal things that were weighing on me, and she took the time to hear me. That kind of care matters more than people realize. I have been a private nurse in the state of Georgia for 26 years and have worked with many families, including some of the wealthiest in Buckhead. I left that work to care for my own mother, and I know firsthand that true caregiving requires passion, patience, and heart. Nurse Charlize showed all of those qualities. To the doctors, I apologize if my frustration showed. I just wished I had understood more about my mother's condition sooner rather than waiting many hours for answers. But I appreciate that the team continued working toward the best care. Moments like these reveal people's character. When someone is frustrated, it takes a special person not to respond with the same energy. Nurse Charlize handled everything with professionalism and grace. Thank you, Northside, for caring not only for my mother but also for the family standing beside the patient. That compassion matters. -- Author M. Clark

EXCELLENT doctor. He is not there to be your friend, he is there to give your child the best care…read morepossible. I learned that CHOA sends many of their patients to them, and he is able to get their conditions under control. He even does his EEGS in office, rather than make you go to the hospital for testing. If you care more for the conversation and friendliness of the office, maybe this guy isn't for you, bc their number one job is treatment not being your friend. But if the best possible care for your child is top of your list, then go see this doctor!!

Don't waste your time at this doctor! All he wants is your money and doesn't care for his patients!…read moreMy nephew has been under his care for epilepsy for the past year. He recently started to seize out over 10 times a day and is not able to go back to school until it is controlled. We went to his office to find out why his medicine has stopped working and let him know how seriously this is. He sent him to get bloodwork done. Three days later I called to check for the results and see how soon can he send over a new prescription. They received it and said the doctor will call me as soon as he comes in. I never got a call. My calls were ignored the rest of the day I called back to check when they were clearly still in office. Then they closed. :/ Now I must watch my nephew seize out for the rest of the weekend into the week until this doctor decides to look at his results. This office is small. They were quick to take us in and made us pay cash only. And now wait for no return calls. At this rate, we are better off to see the neurologist at the hospital instead. Don't come here!
