In the past I've always had reasons to be excused...full time student or moved out of state. I've always heard people complain about jury duty, but I don't think it was that bad. The people at this courthouse make things as painless as possible. I felt that the judges and staff were all pretty amiable and understood that the whole ordeal was an inconvenience to most people. The jury assembly room had padded chairs. I was pretty comfortable waiting in one for about an hour and fifteen minutes. They went through roll call, explained the process, asked if anyone had a legitimate reason they couldn't serve this week, and finally divided us into panels of about 40 people each. The first group of potential jurors had to meet in the courthouse that morning. I was part of the second group, so I had to come back at 2 PM for the voir dire. I left before I heard what the last group was instructed to do. When I returned in the afternoon, I waited outside of the assigned courtroom until someone instructed us to line up in some predetermined order. We filed into the courtroom and took our seats opposite the attorneys for both the prosecution and defense. I was a little surprised to see the defendant in the courtroom, but I didn't know what to expect. After the judge came in and spoke, all of the potential jurors stood up and announced their name, the city they lived in, their occupation, and their spouse's occupation. Next, the attorney's asked various questions to determine if anyone was biased. After a little over an hour of sitting in the courtroom we were all dismissed for 15 minutes while the two teams discussed the prospective jurors and made their decisions. After the 15 minutes, we reentered the courtroom and found out which 12 (plus 2 alternate) individuals were lucky enough to serve as jury members. I didn't get selected and now I don't have to worry about getting summoned for jury duty from the superior court for two years.

That's why their testing scores are so high. I received a study packet from my teachers to study for the big end of the year test. Come test time I noticed ALL of the questions on the test were the exact same ones they put on my study guide. Which I believe they are NOT permitted to open the testing packets until the day of testing. All they care about is football, and it most defiantly shows to the students. I've had enough of Houston County's bullshit. Aside of their shitty school systems. I believe GBI needs to investigate because they are doing many people wrong!!!!!!!

I don't need advice I need an explanation on completing a form. From what I'm told they can't provide assistance. Low and behold I completed the dispossessory dropped it off in the bin. I would suggest the rules are reconsidered regarding assistance. If you're asking for clarification to a question, the staff should be able to help. If you're asking for recommendations on an attorney, then that's different. I don't live in Houston County, however, I have properties here. I haven't had any issues with the court it's just it's irritating that no one can answer simple questions regarding completing the forms. This would save a lot of time and money .

The marker reads, "This County, created by Act of the Legislature December 13, 1808, is named for Count Casimir Pulaski, Polish hero of the Revolutionary War who died fighting in Georgia and is buried in Savannah. Court was to be held at the home of Isham Jordan until the County Site was selected at Hartford in 1810. It was moved across the Ocmulgee to Hawkinsville in 1836 when this town was incorporated. Among the first County Officers were: Sheriff Lewis Holland, Clerk of the Superior Court Richard H. Thomas, Clerk of Inferior Court John Rainey, Coroner William Brocken and Surveyor John Bush." The marker is in excellent condition with no deterioration. The cornerstone reads, "Erected by the Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. G.W. Jordan, President. Mrs. P.H. Lovejoy, Secretary and Treasurer." The obelisk is about 30 feet tall and features THREE statues on it. I assume the two lower ones are Jefferson Davis (President of the CSA) and Robert E. Lee (General of the Confederate Army) with the one atop a model confederate soldier leaning on his rifle. There front between Davis and Lee has a Confederate "Stars & Bars" with the words "Comrades." and "To our Confederate Soldiers." Normally, I would rate this two stars because the Civil War is over and the South lost. But this marker is actually very nice (for what it is) and is A-OK. Also, it's not in the Georgia Historical website. The marker reads, "Slosheye Trail was used by the Indians and white traders as an artery of travel as early as 1750 and extended from Hawkinsville on the Ocmulgee River to Drayton on the Flint River. This ancient trail passed through Hawkinsville over the present Commerce Street. A steady growth of traffic, at first Indians and then white settlers, gradually widened it into a road. It was a valuable factory in South Georgia's development and is now a link in the State's highway system." There is little information online.
