Howard was the worst lawyer, and one of the worst professionals I have ever dealt with. I contacted him to do estate planning and set up some asset protection for my family. He was great at first and recommended a solution, and the moment I paid him everything went to hell. What was supposed to take "a few weeks" took 6 months, was done incorrectly, and I had to contact a second attorney to contact him to provide the services I had paid for. He made errors in our wills, he forgot numerous times about meetings with my family to sign documents (wasting two hours round trip driving), gave possibly 15 promises in email regarding when I would have documents, and every one of them were broken. At some point he stated that my documents had been sent but did not receive tracking information.....they are considered "Lost by the post office" to him so God knows if he actually sent them out and someone has my estate planning, or if he just gave me one more BS excuse. I am currently paying someone else to undo some of the work Howard did and correct it. The new practice stated he used cookie cutter templates that did not even speak to IL laws correctly. He is unorganized and has no customer service skills. I wouldn't recommend him for anything. read more

Ultimately Howard gave me the choice fight this case, and get an empiric victory against a sadistic liar with no assets who had literally told me in the past that he pays his witnesses to lie, or get a mutually agreed order, which saved me the hassle and cost of fighting, winning then starting again to get an order against that person. Howard laid it out, and let me choose, fair enough. I just wanted to get rid of that person from my life, and that person had to 'win' at any cost, so now he can wave his piece of paper around... and nobody cares. Howard took up my post-divorce settlement case a couple years ago when I had to switch attorneys. I had already been through the ringer with a larger, more "renowned" firm. I am absolutely convinced that the divorce industry is rigged against those who need to use the system, and in favor of the attorneys and law firms who unapologetically exploit family crisis situations for their own personal advantage. It is nearly impossible to be a sufficiently educated consumer when seeking out and using these types of once-in-a-lifetime professional services, which means the client is effectively rolling the dice when one chooses to part with that retainer. In working with Howard over the course of about two years, I got the opposite impression with him. He was just as knowledgeable as - if not more than - my larger firm, he didn't pad his hours or charge frivolously as some do, and he didn't attempt to prolong or exacerbate proceedings in an attempt to prolong the case. He was direct, straightforward and efficient, and handled numerous filings through to the end of my case to my satisfaction. And, for what it's worth, Howard is quite personable and not full of himself like so many attorneys with whom I have interacted with.
