He was great at first and recommended a solution, and the moment I paid him everything went to hell. What was supposed to take "a few weeks" took 6 months, was done incorrectly, and I had to contact a second attorney to contact him to provide the services I had paid for. He made errors in our wills, he forgot numerous times about meetings with my family to sign documents (wasting two hours round trip driving), gave possibly 15 promises in email regarding when I would have documents, and every one of them were broken. At some point he stated that my documents had been sent but did not receive tracking information.....they are considered "Lost by the post office" to him so God knows if he actually sent them out and someone has my estate planning, or if he just gave me one more BS excuse. I am currently paying someone else to undo some of the work Howard did and correct it. The new practice stated he used cookie cutter templates that did not even speak to IL laws correctly. He is unorganized and has no customer service skills. I wouldn't recommend him for anything.

I would like to make it clear that this review is ONLY a review of my experience with the younger…read morePfeifer, Jeremy T. I have never met the elder Pfeifer and have had no interactions with him. I was pulled over on a little pedal-start motor scooter without a valid license and at my first court hearing the judge instructed me to come back at a later date with a lawyer present. I happened to meet Jeremy T. Pfeifer at the Bar Association office at the court house and came back to chat with him about the case. He gave me some advice and gave me his card and told me to call him if I needed representation. I took care of some outstanding tickets as I was advised to do and gave him a call back about two weeks before my court date. He said that he felt a fair fee for his services would be $2,500 considering my license had been revoked by the state. I told him I was going to take a few days to discuss it with my family and I'd be back in touch. I called a couple of friends who had been charged criminal traffic court offenses about the amount of money they'd paid. When all was said and done, the prices they'd paid seemed comparable (although, they were dissimilar in that they were DUI offenses and I have never had a DUI) so I decided to hire Jeremy. He said that he'd prefer a check prior to our court date which I thought was a little strange, but I also agreed to this. I assume criminal defense means dealing with unreliable people. I had check sent to him and he called me a few days after saying he'd not received it yet. I asked him to be patient, it was in the mail. But he said maybe instead I should bring a new check to his office and then he'd be happy to return my mailed check once it arrived. This offended me on a number of levels. a) It is fairly uncouth for an educated professional to hound a client for payment for services that HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN RENDERED (we were six days from the court date) as if they were destitute or desperate. b) Mr. Pfeifer knew from our conversations that I live about ten miles from his office, do not drive and have mobility issues relating to Multiple Sclerosis. His suggestion that I skip work (forfeiting about $450 in income) to find my way up to his office to bring him a check that was ALREADY IN THE MAIL suggests that he did not really understand who was working for whom, completely lacks empathy and demonstrates that he did not feel that my time was at all valuable. I at this point told him that he could wait for the check to arrive in the mail or I could instead stop payment on the check and hire a new lawyer. He told me thought it would be best if I hired a new lawyer. Not wanting to spend yet another $35 or whatever it was going to be to stop payment on the check to this guy, I asked him to, as a courtesy, write 'VOID' on the check and mail it back. He did agree to do this (earning the 1 star on this review that Yelp won't let me not give him). Guess what? The check came the very next day. My trip to Evanston, my calling into work would have been a complete waste of time had I agreed to this insane request. But wait! The most incredible part has yet to come, I called a friend who is a Yale Law grad and told him I was in a pinch. I just needed anyone to appear even if it was just to be granted a continuance so I had some time to hire a new lawyer. He gave me a phone number of a friend he said was good. I called Art, he agreed to help me and said his fee would be $350. Yes, that's right ROUGHLY AN EIGTH OF THE COST quoted to me by Jeremy T. Pfeifer. AND, I had the most favorable judgement I was ever going to get considering my driving record. Court was over in about 35 minutes. This guy is a bloodsucker. If you hire this guy, I'm sorry, but you're a plain, old sucker. I almost got taken for $2,150. I realize we're talking about lawyers so a degree of dishonestly and parasitic behavior is inherent to the profession, but I am livid about this man's behavior and will be reaching out to regulatory bodies to see if I can file a formal complaint.

He explains the applicable law and its nuances very well. If there is something for which he is unsure, he tells you and researches the details and re-confirms. He is realistic, and reassuringly optimistic. He focuses in on the the strengths and weaknesses of the case. He asks important questions. Listens to my meandering replies, distills the information, and shares his thoughts. Allows you to repeat your concerns, and puts the details into perspective. These were the traits exhibited to me at our first meeting and the main reasons why I chose Mr. Pfiefer to represent me. Later as I got to know Jeremy Pfeifer, he exhibited another idiosyncrasy. He really cares - He gets behind you all the way. When I was down in the dumps he kept me going reminding me that the law was on our side. Even when I could not attend hearings Jeremy was there getting back fees that were already paid. He takes it personally and though this is included in his fee, it is priceless. I have on other occasions called him for advice on other things and he is always available and has referred me to other lawyers. I have his card at my office and at my home, if I need help in the future Jeremy will be the first person I call.
