My experience with Howard Air felt unprofessional from the start. After I requested service over the phone and set a date/time, the woman on the phone began to end the call before any contact info or address was given. Only after I asked how they would know how to contact me and where to go, she told me to text my name and address to the phone number I'd called. This was on a Friday and she said a tech would be out Monday between 12-5pm. It was 96 degrees both days over the weekend but I am young and healthy and did not complain, sucked it up over the weekend in my hot apartment. On Monday I called the number after 2pm when I had not heard anything to confirm my appointment--aside from me texting my address to this phone number on Friday, I had zero confirmation of my appointment and no one had ever texted back or confirmed in any other way. There was no answer at the company's phone, which is a cell, and the mailbox was full so I could not leave a message. I texted the number and asked to confirm my appointment, saw a read receipt that someone had read it, and got no response. After 4pm, when I still had not heard anything, I called the number again and finally connected to the same lady from Friday who said the tech would "maybe" be able to come between 5-7pm in a way that made me feel he may not show up at all. There was a TV blaring loudly in the background and I did not feel like I was speaking to someone from a business. She was very dismissive about the fact the tech would not be coming within the five hour window originally given to me and seemed annoyed at my questions. I tried to get clarification on whether he was coming at all because of her use of the word "maybe," and she argued with me over what she'd said and gave more dismissive responses. During the entire call, I did not feel like I was speaking to someone at a business, and I got the impression she was either hoping I'd just cancel the service or at the very least didn't CARE if I did. The technician called sometime later and said he would be at my home by 7pm, mostly likely at 6pm. Within 30 minutes of that call, I received a text from the main number telling me my service call was declined because access to my AC is too small. Access to my AC is not too small--this company has been out once before a couple of years ago and serviced it with no issues. The technician at that time was a large man and the unit is located in a large closet that he had no difficulties accessing. I believe they cancelled my appointment because they didn't want to send the tech out after 5pm and because I'd already complained. If I had been able to reach someone in the afternoon to get some kind of information regarding my appointment, I wouldn't even have minded if the tech was late. I had other obligations of my own and people needing time frames from me, and was simply trying to get information on what to expect. Their overall lack of professionalism and care is my main issue, especially at the "office," with whoever is managing the appointments. Obviously I'm never calling them again, for any size unit. I am a homeowner and also manage my mother's property, and will definitely be using someone else in the future. read more
