He replaced a heat strip and thermostat that was damaged. I told him before he left the residence that the heat wasn't working. He claimed it was. I called and texted a few times with my concern about the heat. Finally, a week and a half later he returned saying he had the thermostat set to gas instead of electric. Still no heat. I refused to give him the old heat strip which was under a 10 year warranty until my unit was fixed. Over the next few days, I called a half dozen A/C repairmen and they all said the problem had to be with the heat strip. I told Mr. Forest this and he said he might have to change out the whole heating unit which is only 5 years old (another way to scam more money out of me). Three weeks went by with no working heat. I finally gave up on him and called another A/C company. They came out and said the heat strip Mr. Forest put in wasn't working. They replaced it and got heat just like that. So Mr. Forest isn't as good as people say or he saw a chance to scam a senior citizen and took advantage of it. He does not stand behind his work and does not care about the quality of his work, nor about the people he does service for. I would never recommend him to anyone.

While they were out, we asked them to service the unit, which they did. The unit has worked fine until now, June of 2022. It has recently been giving us problems, so we called and asked them to come out again and service the unit, which they did. The repair only lasted a few weeks but being an older unit, we called and asked them to give us an updated quote to replace. The first quote from 8/2021 was $1,690.00, and 10 months later the new quote was for $23,100.00. When I called them, their response was that they needed to send out two guys to do the job and that they needed to make money. They also told me that all prices have gone up.

I'm not going to lie: getting this system installed in a home we were living in at the time was not a pleasure and I won't ever go through it again. We had to get the duct work done which is a horrifying mess (there's no way around it) and to Calloway & Son's credit, they did suggest we go with a split system. Live and learn. We also thought we were getting a system with zones which didn't happen and it was never fully explained why, but in these old homes with impossibly high ceilings and two levels, your bills are going to be extremely high if you have one single unit. It is what it is. I certainly don't blame them for that! But on to the most important stuff: the system is pretty good. Again, old house, not the greatest insulation and taking all that into consideration we are comfortable 80% of the year. The other 20% of times are where things are a less than awesome: this year's blizzard and any extremely cold days mean for a very hot upstairs, requiring us to run the window AC unit. And on those blistering hot summer days, there's no way we're comfortable upstairs without the window unit. Again, my house... it's ancient. It wasn't made for these types of systems. Last summer, there was a day in August when the system stopped working on a Friday. I was more than a little disappointed when I was told they couldn't give us a service visit unit until Monday. If you live here, you know it is literally unbearable to not have AC on a summer day. Luckily the very kind lady on the phone worked with us and fit us in. I also now pay for insurance that ensures priority service. I was only able to afford to get the HVAC on the owner's side of my two family house done and that was about 25K. The financing was not great... if I hadn't paid it off ASAP, it would have been almost double that. So try to pay it all upfront if possible. At least the option is there if you need it.
